Captain Underpants Really?

If you haven't been familiar with Captain Underpants here he is:

I have a love/dislike relationship with this super hero. I love that he got Mica into reading bigger books! I dislike that they spell things different, and have slang in the book. Our future generation gets enough silly abbreviations from texting. Like OMG!

Mica looks over at me last night and says, "Mom I could have a Captain Underpants party for my birthday? Wouldn't that be cool? I could wear my underwear over my pants, and have a super hero cape on."

I said, "Let's stick with Superman. If you want we could have a submarine party. You want to invent a new one anyway."

Mica, "Captain Underpants is better!"

I said, "Mica wearing your underwear outside your clothes might be embarrassing."

I do have to admit that making a cake with that strange super hero would be fun. Maybe we could do that for the family party. At least they know my humor. They know my children were bound to be strange like me. It's not like Mica will be running around with only underwear. It would be on the outside of his pants. We'd all get a good laugh. I could make a banner of whitey tighties. Family brace yourselves in August!

I LOVE the Captain Underpants idea! I say they are only young once. I think this would be a party he would remember forever. And he would have great stories to tell his children when they get older!

Mica will probably bug you until you relent and let him have a Captain Underpants Party. You will be the best Mom ever!!

they spell things different? Uhm, I think that is a really bad idea. But I totally get being glad that they prompt more reading.

I loathe these books. They are obnoxious and all they do is teach kids to be fresh....but, my son has read them all because all his friends read them and god forbid he be left out.

Oh my gosh, I think your son's on to something, lol. It sounds like a fabulous party in the making. :)

My second oldest loved those books when he was a kid, and like you noted, it really got him interested in reading on his own.

I totally know what you mean! When my middle child was in elementary school he loved these books. In fact he saved them all and he's now 20. Then the other day we went to Target and there he saw his new books. Had to get them :)
