Bring Back the Classics

When we were at the library this weekend I happened to see Parent Trap, and Pollyanna.

I'm not talking about the Lindsay Lohan version of Parent Trap. Not that there's anything wrong with that version. I was in a Hayley Mills mood.

Mica and Isaak got a little taste of the Lindsay Lohan version of Parent Trap during our vacation. They seemed to enjoy it.

I figured they'd like Hayley Mills just the same. They were both excited to watch the movies. Most boys would be like, "This is a girl flick!" I didn't hear any of that.

It's nice that Isaak and Mica get into superhero flicks, The Lego Movie, How to Train Your Dragon, as well as Little House on the Prairie, Pollyanna, Heidi, and Parent Trap.

I was talking to my co-workers about how Pollyanna, Old Yeller, Swiss Family Robinson, and more have never been redone (that I know of) since the 60s, or 70s. Parent Trap and Freaky Friday have both been redone. One coworker said, "It's because the others are not sexy enough."

Do you agree that some of the classics haven't been redone because they simply are not sexy enough?

My boys seemed to enjoy the flicks regardless.

What movies did you like when you were little?

Woah I didn't know Parent Trap was a remake!! But I did enjoy LL's version as a kid :) She wasn't sexy then, so I can't quite agree with your friend :P

I really liked watching the Sound of Music as a kid!

Some would be way too hard to re-make. Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Sound of Music... I don't think those have been remade. It would probably be hard to beat the original since they've got such a strong following.

Of course that didn't stop people from re-doing Oz...over, and over, and over. ;)

I always liked Halley Mills. I wonder what happened to her?

I think a lot of the old movies are not remade because today everything has to be multicultural and politically correct. The old virtues of family, courage and self sacrifice simply don't resonate with the audiences of today.

Weird that you just wrote about this. I was checking out Film Streams calendar recently and they're going to be showing the original Parent Trap next week. :)

I agree with Rosey. Some of them are too hard to remake because of the following. Lots of backlash could occur if you change it up too much.

I used to love watching Haley Mills. Haven't seen her in a long time. She has got to be up there in years.
