Random Tid Bits

  1. My left eye has been fluttering for 4 days. I have no clue why. I've been sleeping good. I can actually breathe through my nose now.

  2. Isaak put yet another hole in the knee of his jeans. I think it's 4 jeans he's done this to this year. A long time ago I used to buy nicer jeans thinking that they'd last longer. NOPE! For a few years now I've been buying jeans on the clearance rack wherever they are the cheapest.

  3. I was at the Y watching Mica's Ju-Jitsu class There's one kid in the class that is smaller than all the other kids, and 2 boys that are bigger than all the other kids. The smaller kid was jumping around, and pouncing like a tiger on Mica and one of the bigger kids. The bigger kid picked up the small kid, and walked him around for a minute. Then the bigger kid's dad said, "Put him down!" So he did.

I didn't think anything of it. It was harmless boy play, and they were waiting for their next instruction.

The little kid's dad came in the room after lifting weights and his son said, "Dad the big kids were picking on me. One of them lifted me up, and carried me around." I know this song and dace because Isaak pulls it. He taunts, gets hurt, and comes crying to me. I listen to Isaak then say, "Now I want to get Mica's side of the story." Trust me when I say this they are both in the wrong 99% of the time.

All of a sudden the dad gets all mad about how the bigger kids treat his son, and how class doesn't start on time. He was valid in the class not starting on time. Tension was in the air. You could hear a pin drop. If he wasn't such a hot head I would have told him exactly what happened. I was in the room watching it all. I just hate how some parents automatically think their kids are innocent. Having two kids I know that most disagreements/fights, both kids have a part in. Not once did that parent ask his son, "Did you do anything to the other boys?"

  4. I gave a brand spanking new assignment to my students last Friday. I showed them 5 examples of what I wanted, went over what I wanted, and had a handout on what I wanted. Usually I show more examples, but it's new. I don't have past student examples. All of my PowerPoints and handouts are on an external server for them to see. I asked if anyone had any questions multiple times? No one did. When I had them in a different class on Wednesday I had multiple questions about Friday's class.

I would  have stopped everything, and pulled them in the lecture hall to cover it all over again in a heart beat. The problem is that I've gotten on my reviews that student's get my classes mixed up. I'm really careful about separating them. I never understood why they get my classes mixed up. One class is all hands on illustration. The other class is all computer done using the program InDesign. Shaking my head!

  5. I said to the boys, "We can make Valentines, or buy them. What do you want to do? They want to make them. All the sudden both of them had elaborate plans for their Valentines. I looked at them and said, "We're not doing all of that!"

Have you made your own Valentines, or do you buy them?

That song and dance is done in my house, too, so I am very familiar with it. I really have very little tolerance for parents who automatically assume nothing is their kids fault. They are usually the kids who start the trouble in the first place.

We made them last year, but it is easier (and with 25 kids this year) we will be buying them :)

Some parents think their children are angels and it drives me nuts. My mom pulled my nephew out of wrestling because she couldn't handle a "bully". It wasn't a bully. Just a kid a little bigger that he got paired to go against. My nephew can hold his own, and is often the aggressor, but she never sees it that way.

My kids really like going to the store and picking out the premade ones, as much as I try to encourage them to make handmade ones. And yep, I don't spend tons of money on my kids clothes - they destroy them too quickly! Old Navy is where it's at.

Parents who think their kids are saints from heaven are the worst.

I have an eye that has been twitching since last summer off and on. Causes can be stress or too much caffeine. Generally harmless just annoying.

I usually purchased Valentines when I needed to get them. I think parents should stick up for their kids but they should also get both sides of the story first. Kids will manipulate and lie to their own parents about what really happened, just to keep out of trouble with their own parents.

We got 19-cent Clearance TMNT Valentine's Day cards last year (after the holiday) so we're just using those this year. I can't believe we're talking about VDay already! Time's a flyin' already this year!

We type up a joke and then just cut them out and the boys write the name on them.

Alissa,
What have you been doing to get rid of the stuffed up nose? Are you taking any herbs?
