Sing, Sing a Song

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday is all about me discovering something that is different. I don't want to post things that you and I have more than likely heard before. I want to find something different. It could be from another country, someone singing from the streets of NY, and more.

Have you ever listened to The Vandals? They are a punk band. Punk is usually not my thing. I listen to it because my husband listens to it.

The Vandals is a punk rock band from the United States established in 1980 in Huntington Beach, California.

They have released ten full-length studio albums and two live albums and have toured the world extensively, including performances on the Vans Warped Tour.

They are well known for their use of humor, preferring to use their music as a vehicle for entertainment and sarcasm rather than as a platform for more serious issues.

There has been trouble within the band. They fought over royalties.

We were listening to The Vandals, and the song below came on. Yes the cover is pretty tacky. Remember The Vandals take serious issues and add a warped humor to it. I just never heard So Long, Farewell sang in this way.

I'm sorry there's no video to see, but in light of the fact that Julie Andrew's went back to where Sound of Music was filmed I just had to show it.

Here's the von Trapp actors singing So Long Farewell.

Have you ever seen the real Maria von Trapp?

I loved this movie when I was  a kid. We'd watch it at least once a year. When my friend got it on VHS we watched it at least once every few months.

Do you like The Sound of Music?

I saw the sound of music when I was a kid. Too much singing.

I liked that the Austrian Von Trapp had been a uboat commander in WWI though.

Wow, this is a trip back in time, lol. I've always enjoyed Vandal's odd sense of humour.

The Great Scot abhors The Sound of Music so I have to sneak in an occasional viewing whilst he's at work... and hide my DVD!

We had to sing this one over and over and over again in 8th grade choir. That's where I saw the movie for the first time. I did like it a lot.

My mom loved it, so I like it for the nostalgia value. I do like the songs!
