Out of the Box Saturday

It's all about me discovering something that is different. I don't want to post things that you and I have more than likely heard before. I want to find something different. I'll cover something sing | songy one week, and artsy | fartsy the next.

I ran across the band Atom™ and Tobias. It's something new that I've never heard of. It's also a different type of music venue that I don't usually listen to. It's electronic. I happen to like their music. I've been listening to it to paint to. It's relaxing. They aren't afraid of doing things new. They constantly are thinking about collaborating, and improvise a lot.

Atom™ and Tobias Freund are both figures within the genre of electronically generated music. Tobias began his career in the early '80s, by then mainly using the pseudonym "Pink Elln", looks back on a long sequence of music making which lead him from mainstream pop via club music, up to the heights of the experimental and unclassifiable. Tobias and Atom™ met around 1986. The pre-techno scene was blooming while both met in a studio. In 1992 they recorded probably one of the very first "techno" live recordings ever, the 12-inch "Elektroniikkaa", which soon became an underground anthem.

Both played at the Labyrinth festival (Japan) in 2011. Tobias and Atom™ sat in a hotel lobby which was equipped with an acoustic- and an electric piano. Almost instinctively they started to improvise while they had a small flash recorder running.

So, Jason isn't a fan. "What the hell are you listening to?" bwahaha! I like it, but probably only in small doses. It's not something I could listen to a full album of in one sitting.

I guess there is a lot that can be done with electronic music. It is cool to listen to.
