Random Tid Bits

  1. I keep getting invited to home and facebook parties. It seems like everything is expensive at those things. I feel obligated to go to them, or buy from them when I'm good friends, or family members with them.

I just want to get together without a home party.

  2. Isaak cracks me up. He always has the most laundry in his clothes basket. It's not because his clothes are dirty. Sure some are. It's mostly because he's lazy. I get after him all the time.

One day I said, "Why do you have all white underwear in the basket? You have undies with colors on them, stripes, and characters." He said, "Because white underwear is what men wear." Ha! It's really funny because Travis only wears boxers. Where's he getting this?

  3. It took us all last year to get Mica in the groove of wearing deodorant. This year I asked "Have you been wearing your deodorant? I haven't seen it move at all for days." He said, "I don't see the point."

We had to go through the importance of wearing deodorant all over again. I'm pretty sure we're not alone. Many kids are on their own.

  4. This weekend the boys went to a neighbor's house, and raked up all her leaves. Our yards in our neighborhood are huge for the city.

They worked their butts off! Travis wanted her oak leaves for composting. Do you keep a compost pile?

In Nebraska and Iowa we don't have oak mites, but in Kansas and Missouri oak mites are a huge problem right now.

  5. Isaak's basket ball team has lost all of their games. I wish they'd win one game. At the same time I'm super glad he's A) Having fun!, B) Getting exercise!, and C) Learning.

Thero Kidney Support Plus Review

Threo takes health back to nature by keeping their ingredients as pure as possible. I received Kidney Support Plus to review.

Health:

I haven't mentioned this on the blog very much, but my asthma is out of wack once again. I'm trying to be healthier. I eat fairly healthy, but am tired from working, so I don't exercise as much as I should. I also think I have allergens to some foods. I know Omaha's air quality is horrible. I'm trying a few things (one at a time) to help detox my system.

One of the filters in the body is the kidney's. I'm starting with Kidney Support Plus. I've never had a bladder or urinary tract infection, but I still think I need to take care of my kidneys. These pills really can't hurt anything.

Ingredients:

  • Organic Fruit and Berry Juice - Whole Powder Blend
  • Lemon
  • Amla Fruit
  • Acai Berry
  • Blackberry
  • Goji Fruit
  • Blueberry
  • Noni Fruit
  • Maqui Berry
  • Mangosteen Fruit
  • Hawthorne Berry
  • Cranberry
  • Concord Grape
  • Banana
  • Apple
  • Pomegranate
  • Strawberry
  • Red Raspberry
  • Orange
  • Pineapple
  • Cherry

There are other veggie ingredients, but the fruits above are most of the things in the pills. Most of the ingredients I've heard of. There were a few berries that were new to me.

Perks With Threo Kidney Support Plus:
  • Farm Fresh
  • Gluten Free
  • Soy Free
  • Dairy Free
  • Vegetarian
  • Raw
  • Non GMO
  • 30 Billion CFU's
  • 10 Probiotic Strains
  • Can be kept room temperature
  • Long shelf life
  • Vegetarian Plant Gelatin Capsule

They produce 100% pure, raw food supplements to support health using a proprietary low-temperature drying process.

Why Support Your Kidneys?

The kidneys are one of the most important systems in your body and are tirelessly working hard every day of the year. They are the body’s great waste collectors, and are necessary components to bladder and urinary tract health. By flushing your kidneys of toxins and proactively fighting bacteria, you are able to recognize optimal kidney function. Prime kidney health means fewer infections and better bladder control. As I age bladder control is a slight issue. It's not huge, but if I have to go, I have to go. All the more reason for me to take this.

Why Choose Threo Kidney Support?

Their product uses a proprietary blend of 42 whole food, raw ingredients formulated to support and rejuvenate kidney health. A main component of our is blend cranberries, a superfruit high in proanthocyanidins, thought to prevent bacteria from clinging to urinary tract walls. By taking this supplement blend, you are able to have confidence in your body’s ability to fight infection and eliminate toxins.

Benefits of Threo Kidney Support:

  • Contains a large amount of raw cranberry extract, which supports urinary tract health
  • Targeted support aimed specifically at kidneys, bladder and urinary tract system
  • Assists in the normal function of kidneys to remove waste material from the body
  • 100% pure, vegetable-based raw supplement

The Negatives:

  • There's too much unused space in the bottle. I wish Threo just used a smaller bottle for these pills. It's slightly more than 1/2 full.
  • They also misspelled "organic" on the front of the bottle. They spelled it, "organinc".

Cost:

$15.99 with Prime, so if you are a Prime Member you'll get free shipping.

Have you ever taken cranberry pills?

Threo Probiotic Review

Probiotics have been my long time go to thing if Mica or Isaak has an eczema spot, if one of us is on antibotics - probiotics puts good bacteria back into the system, one of us has a tummy issues, or to prevent sickness.

Recently I got Threo Probiotic to review.

I'm a college instructor. Lately I've had a lot of students get sick. There's been the stomach bug, a few students with bronchitis, one with pneumonia, and others that cough and sneeze, but don't know what they have. I don't want to get sick if I can help it. I've been opening up 3 probiotics pills to put into our smoothies at breakfast time.

Stay Healthy!

Great health begins in the core of your body, where the intestinal tract is. Approximately 70% of your immune system resides in the intestinal tract. Threo has created a formula with the toughest team probiotic strains to support your health where you need it most. A healthy gut is a happy gut!

Perks With Threo Probitoics:

  • Farm Fresh
  • Gluten Free
  • Soy Free
  • Dairy Free
  • Vegetarian
  • Raw
  • Non GMO
  • 30 Billion CFU's
  • 10 Probiotic Strains
  • Can be kept room temperature
  • Long shelf life
  • Deliver deeply into the intestines
  • No after-taste

30 Capsules

I like everything I read about these probiotics. I just wish the packaging was smaller. The pills only fill up less than 1/2 the bottle. That's a lot of waisted plastic to make the bottle. I'm sure many do not recyle it, and if it is recycled it's again using more resources to complete the task. I wish it was in a container 1/2 the size it's in.

It's $29.99 with Prime, so if you are a Prime Member you'll get free shipping.

WW: Cuddle Time {Linky}

This is what many Saturday mornings look like in the Apel house hold:

I remember when I had boys a coworker said, "Oh that's too bad that you don't at least have 1 girl. They love to cuddle. They are just different than boys." I'm sure they are different. As you can see the boys love to cuddle! They sometimes fight over who gets to cuddle with me.

This particular morning we were watching the last season of The Wonder Years. It's almost time to say goodbye to Kevin Arnold and his family, Winnie Cooper, Paul Pfeiffer and more friends. What family series should we watch next? We watched A Little House on the Prairie and Webster. There's a lot of great TV shows on, but not a lot that whole families can watch these days.

That Moment Where I Just About Lost My Mind

Travis: "Can you go get these few things at the grocery store for me to make dinner. Hurry up please."

Me: "Ok. Will do. Mica can you come with me?"

Mica: "Sure!" I was shocked that he wanted to come with me.

No kid of mine has ever loved going to the grocery store.

So we set out on adventure to go grocery shopping. I knew a few other things I wanted to get, so we got this, and got that.

I went to check out and said, "WOW! It's 5:30 and they only have 1 human check out lane open!" The line was super long! It was like that scene in The Christmas Story where Ralphie gets in line to see Santa, and a person says something like, "Why are you here? The line is back there!" and they point to what seems like forever away.

I decided to brave it by going in the self check out lane. A staff member was standing there if I needed help.

Who knew that an eleven year old would get so excited to check out the groceries himself. Mica kept insisting that he check everything out. He couldn't find the bar codes, so I grabbed things to check them out myself. He was annoyed that I was grabbing things.

I was the opposite of Mica, I just about lost my mind when checking out my own groceries.

Everything was fine until I got to the produce. I was super frustrated. I didn't know all those codes. I didn't work there! I happen to get a lot of produce.

Frustration escalates for me when I'm hungry. By that time I was very hungry. We ate a brunch that day. No mid meal like I'm used to.

The store clerk up there was busy helping someone else. To top it off there was someone behind us that looked annoyed that we were taking so long. They too probably hated that they had to go in the self checkout lane.

I kept mumbling to myself, or maybe aloud, What store only has one human checkout lane at dinner time?

I don't even know if I checked out the produce properly. Thankfully there were only a few things. The rest: Bags of Carrots, Mushrooms, Celery, Potatoes and a Box of Spinach had bar codes on them.

Apparently a self check out lane can bring me from a good mood to a frustrated one in a flash. It's not just the act of doing it myself. I think, What has this world come to? There was once upon a time where stores carried everything out for you. I know that some stores still do, but there are less and less of them. They'd ask you as you came in, "Is there anything I can help you find?" They would great you in the check out lane with a pleasant, "Hello! Did you find everything ok?" If you didn't they'd send a store clerk out to go get whatever it is that you couldn't find. They'd open your box of eggs to make sure none were broken. If one was they'd have someone go get another box for you.

Side Note: Earlier that day we went to pick out a dress shirt for Mica. He's in between boys and men sizes. Travis wanted to get him measured. Guess what? There was no one around to help, or measure him. We ran around like chickens with our heads cut off looking for dress shirts. The men's were too big, the young men's section had no dress shirts. The boy's section had them, but all the other shirts like t-shirts and sweat shirts were too small for Mica. WTH?!

What is something that sets you off?

Viihahn Men's Lace-up Fully Wool Lined Boots Review

It's hard to believe that Mica's into men's shoes. Ok, so maybe it's not. My nephew that's the same age has been in men's shoes for awhile now. We're spending more money on shoes for him now. Thankfully I got Viihahn Men's Lace-up Fully Wool Lined Boots for Mica to try out. YAY!

These boots come in 2 colors:
  1. Coffee
  2. Black
I really love the color coffee...

But I felt like he'd get more use out of the black ones. He has tan shoes already. The coffee could could be worn with brown, or black because the soles are black. I know Mica has dress shirts for the holiday time that wouldn't work with brown at all. The black ones were more practical.

Lined:

The shoes are super soft. They are lined with wool. Mica loves the feel of them.

With them being lined it's super great for cold winter days. They are winter boots, but I wouldn't go sledding in them. They are too nice for that. They can be worn for dressy events, or casual wear. We actually went for a quick hike to see how they'd feel. Mica loved how they felt.

Soles:

The soles are great. They don't slip around, which is wonderful. Part of why I wanted him to have winter boots is for really cold days. He's on safety patrol, so it will be cold and icy on some winter days.

They do get rocks, leaves and mud in the treads, but I'd rather that happen instead of having no threads. It gets icy here during the winter. I don't want Mica sliding around.

Cost:

$115, and on sale for $68. That's with Prime.

Specs:
  • Leather Imported
  • Wool Rubber Soles
  • Leather Upper
  • Shearling/Wool Lining
  • Dual Density Insoles
  • Lace-up Closure

Overall Mica really likes his boots! He was pleasantly surprised. I didn't tell him that I was getting them for him.

Do you have a favorite pair of boots?
