Rock On! Giveaway

Things that we've always collected are: Rocks, Arrowheads, Fossils, and Mineral Specimens.

We got the spelling of our son Mica from the mineral Mica, which is a shiny silicate mineral with a layered structure, found as minute scales in granite and other rocks, or as crystals. It is used as a thermal or electrical insulator.

We have arrowheads hanging up in shadow boxes in our hallway.

I was super excited to review and giveaway Rock On! The Geology Game of Brains and Sheer Determination

What the Set Includes:

  • A Fun Learning Game
  • A 15 Specimen Rock Collection
  • 60+ Small Polished Rocks
  • Cards with Fun Facts on Rocks and Minerals
  • A Hard Plastic Carry Case

The Game

Mica liked the set because Mica is in it. He enjoyed playing the game with me as well. The game reminded me of bingo.

There are 5 levels for up to 6 players. The game is educational. It's filled with science. It's meant for elementary ages, and beyond.

If you don't care for games, it's just cool to look through the rocks and minerals.

The rocks are fairly small, and are all polished.

I have collected many things over the years...
Shotglasses. Still missing like 8 states to have all of them represented. My goal was to cover that before I was 35, but that did't happen. Oh well.
I used to collect stamps (No clue why, but that has since been trashed)
I had a collection of precious moments because my grandmother gave me a new one each Christmas.
Now, I collect things from my children's childhood so I can share with them as they get older.

I want to learn to quilt, as I really want to make baby clothes quilts for both of them. one day, right? :)

How does the game work? I think you said it was similar to Bingo, but I'm having a hard time seeing it. It looks like you only have one rock for each type and I'm not quite sure how you would decide which rock to call or which kid gets which rock when you call it?

Anyway, I loved rocks as a kid, so I probably would have loved this game. I love that kids are encouraged to learn the names and types of rocks through playing. That sounds like so much fun!

Sorry if his is the third comment under this from me but I can't see them showing up. Please delete if more than one did! This looks both educational fun! GG loves collecting rocks of any kind. In fact we have tubs full of rocks that she has found along our walks but none like this.

How it's Played:

It's just played like BINGO, only the kid matches up the rock or mineral on the card. Whoever fills up the card in a row up or down wins. It would be best played in a small group. There are lots of cards in the set. They do have different ways to play on the card though. We only played the first way.

I haven't really had any sort of collection of anything now or in the past. My boys love rocks! Seems they are starting a collection of their own with rocks they find here and there. Would love to them to have this set!
