Tonight I Was Sad For Isaak

Isaak was made fun of at school today. :(

First off the whole class was rather crazy acting, so they all lost out on on an extra recess. I guess Isaak wasn't acting out (so he tells me). He said, "I was good Mom."

Next he got made fun of from one boy in particular saying, "Isaak likes Maddie." I guess that kid was sent to his desk. Isaak's getting sick of him saying that.

Next Isaak drew a self portrait. All the people at his table laughed. I know they are Kindergarteners. They aren't mature. I don't know if the teacher heard the kids, or not. I will be jotting down some things in his daily folder. Really just a please watch out for this behavior. Being a teacher, hearing laughing, I would assume that the kids are having fun, enjoying the project. It wouldn't occur to me that they would be picking on someone's drawing. Do I blame the teacher? No. I just want her to know about the situation.

What were they making fun of? The fact that Isaak's eyes were so big in the drawing, the fact that he has eyelashes on his self portrait. Only girls have eyelashes. I know more guys that have longer lashes than girls do. Isaak happens to be one of them. Yes his eyes are big. I love his eyes. Do they look kind of funny in the drawing? Sure. But...who cares! He has a lot of detail in his drawing for age 5!

They made fun of the feet to. Isaak was wearing sandals today. He put the same pattern his shoes had on his drawn feet.

I told Isaak that I thought the drawing is great. I know it's not a master piece. He's 5. It's good for 5! I love his attention to detail! He seemed happy that I liked it.

I feel bad for Isaak! :(

My Big Eyed Beautiful Boy

  1. Kids are so cruel. He is a detailed artist and will make great drawings in the future, so yeah- whatever - they are just jealous. :-)

  2. I agree - kids can be mean and cruel. My son was made fun of too when he was in primary school but they get get over it. Just ignore them, Isaak!

  3. I think that it's an awesome drawing for five years old. Lots of kids who are made fun of in kindergarten end up being the most successful kids :)

  4. Kids are so mean. Seriously. I almost don't want to hear it when my kids tell me that someone made fun of them for something because it literally makes me cry.

  5. I like that description, he is a big-eyed, beautiful boy. :)

My son had such a nice K class last year. This year it's a new bunch of kids & I hope they're just needing extra time to settle in because they sure get in a lot of trouble. *sigh*

I like your son's drawing. I thought he paid great attention to details!

  6. What? How are they making fun already? That's terrible.

I think his drawing is so excellent for kindergarten! Poor kid.

Pierce is having a rough spell too - some kid stole the special space pencil case I made for him. :-( Who knew thievery could start as early as first grade? I am going to make him another one.

  7. Wow, that's how all the little boy drawings looked when my kids were that age. I never heard them picking on each other for those kind of drawings. I don't understand why kids feel the need to tear apart each other. I remember my oldest daughter made fun of a little girl when she was in Kindergarten. She joined in another little boy with the teasing. I ripped her a new one when she got home, made her verbally apologize, then write her a sorry letter too. Must have worked, because to this day she has always stood up for the bullied. If more parents would punish that kind of behavior, we wouldn't have so much of it running around. Sorry Isaak had his feelings hurt!

  8. I think he did pretty darned good at that drawing. I hate when kids make fun.... they can hurt feeling so easy and have no idea they are even doing it.

  10. I think he did a great job on the drawing. Kids can be cruel sometimes. I know my heart aches when something negative happens to my son. Just do as your doing and reinforce with positive words and be keen to what's going on.
