This one is the best book! It has some really cool, historic stories. A story about how to make paint out of berries, another one about Ben Franklin, another one about Daniel Boone and more. The copyright dates are 1895 and 1923. Yep it's super old!
This book is filled with illustrations by Howard Pyle and N.C. Wyeth. Both I teach about in my college Illustration course. They are classics. N.C.. Wyeth is interesting because he had a son Andrew Wyeth that has work in many museums and a grandson Jamie Wyeth that is a well known photographer. My mom used to read stories and nursery rhymes out of this book to me.
My mom read stories out of this book as well.

too many, unfortunately! But, the classics are definitely something that I would never give up!

ReplyDeleteI have a terrible time getting rid of books, even the ones I don't like. I'm afraid I'll be clinging to stacks of kids books for ages...they have such wonderful memories for me.

ReplyDeleteMost of the children's books I read to our sons have been passed on to a younger generation. But I grew up on a series of books called My Book House, and I so wish I had stashed them away when I went to college. One sister has tried to collect some; I have only Book 5. There were 12 books, starting with nursery rhymes and moving through Grimm's Fairy Tales, etc.

i plan on going through broxtons and getting rid of the ones we got at the dollar section of target and keeping his other ones though...
I think I had the first book pictured and I know I had the last. I think the grandkids have them now.

ReplyDeleteI was just asking my Mom a couple of weeks ago if she remembered the book sales at my grade school. She did. I told her about a book she bought me when I was in 1st or 2nd grade. I still have it. She had no idea.
We both collect old children's books.
