Perks:
- When you've been sitting all day driving it's nice to get out to walk.
- It's neat to see this Little House on the Prairie type town.
- There's a lot to see.
- They have Civil War reenactment event in October.
- You can get married there.
- It's open everyday of the year from sun up to sun down.
- There are walking trails to see bison.
- It's free!
- If you don't like to walk, or walking is hard for you than this isn't the place for you. There are hills to climb.
- There are things to see in the buildings, through the windows, but it's hard to take photos inside there. You capture a reflection of yourself, and that's about it.
- There's only porta potties.
- The Blacksmith Shop was just a shed. Nothing to see there.
Isaak has been hacking and spitting. I said, "What are you doing?" He said, "I"m trying to spit like Grandpa." I knew exactly what he was trying to do. I grew up with the man.
I was walking along holding Isaak's hand. A big bug flew fast into my mouth, and lodged it's self in the back of my throat. I tried to hack like Grandpa - my Dad. It was just too late! It had to be the most uncomfortable gross thing to have a bug stuck in my throat! Travis wouldn't go back to the car, so I could get water. I got extra protein that day. Positive things: It wasn't a poisonous bug, and I got more protein. Negative thing: Gross!
Now...on with the museum. After I swallowed a lot. The museum was wonderful.
They had a lot of outdoor farming equipment here and there.
The boys enjoyed feeding the chickens. I wish we could have some. Stupid city ordinance.
This was by far my husband and my favorite building:
A few little structures:
The boys didn't want me to take photos of them. They wanted to be on the go.
A door on the inside wall:
Doc's Office:
The Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with a Cemetery in the back:
Crossroads Inn:
The School:
Shields Mercantile:
I still wonder how and why we lost mercantile in our store's names today?
A House:
I really liked this self guided tour!
Chickens are a mixed blessing. They eat bugs, lay eggs, kill snakes. But they poop on the porch and on your vehicles.
ReplyDeleteI think I would have gotten worn out going around looking at all those buildings, but I bet the boys had a great time.
Allison was actually asking me to buy her dried crickets on our trip this year. Ugh! Nasty! Sorry you ate a bug!
ReplyDeleteThose buildings are so fun to explore! You got some really pretty shots of them!
Wow I love all the old wooden buildings too!! Do people dress up to theme when they marry there too?
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
I'm not sure if they dress up for weddings any different than anywhere else. I just saw on their website that you can have a wedding there.
ReplyDeleteFantastic town. I love places like this too, and great descriptive: Little House on the Prairie town. I have only been to Kansas City once and this is not at all how I remember it.
ReplyDeletelooks like a lovely place indeed...
ReplyDeleteI love exploring old historical places like this. Loving all of your pictures.
ReplyDeleteI would like to explore this place on foot but my husband would like to ride so he wouldn't go.
ReplyDeleteHow fun. I would love to take all the photos, but I am not sure walking up all the hills would be fun for me. I know Broxton would like it for a little bit. I love the building that you said was your favorite. I see why :)
