    It does look like a lab lamp, but if you have it facing down like you do, you won't even notice it :)

    My daughter could use this lamp in her room for her doing her artwork. She wants to get a nice easel but she does need more lighting.

    I would use this at my desk while I am writing. I get rather gloomy in the winter, so I up my vitamin D and seek out the sun whenever it shows up.

    I would use it while sewing and crocheting, it should help allow me to see the fine stitches of both a little easier.

    I would use this at my desk for paperwork and bills, as the lighting in there is really not very good.
