Here in Omaha, Nebraska this is a hot topic. The mayor wants to ban plastic bags. So many people don't get why the ban is needed. If only they did their research. Do you have a ban on plastic bags where you live?
No but I wish we did. There is no reason in the world to keep filling everyplace with place. I see it here in Florida with all the plastic in the ocean. Ban I say. We can adjust.

I live in the SF Bay Area and we started it. San Francisco and Alameda Counties (the county I live in) banned plastic bags over five years ago and then in the 2016 election the voters of California approved Prop. 67 which allowed single-use plastic bags effective immediately. One thing in both laws and that is if you forget you bag and need a paper bag, then be prepared to pay a dime for it.

ReplyDeleteI use plastic bags a lot but also reuse them for other things.
Our stores have containers where we can return plastic bags so they get properly recycled.
Here in Seattle, WA there is a plastic bag ban. It costs 5 cents to purchase a paper bag. It gets the tourists riled up sometimes, but it does send a message. It works really well here actually, I don't mind it at all. If I get paper bags, I reuse them for recycling. Most people use reusable bag pretty much everywhere. There is very little waste accumulating for as big of a city as Seattle is housing so many people. It is pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a ban, but almost every supermarket has a recycle spot where you can bring your plastic bags back to be made into new ones.
ReplyDeleteWe always use cloth bags, but I will occasionally get a few to keep on hand to line our small waste baskets with.
When we were in California, we stopped by the grocers to stock our AirBNB with goodies and since we didn't have our own bags, we were charged a small tax or fee for having to get plastic to take our stuff back home in. I think it was like 10¢ per bag or something like that.

Hokey smokes. I always pick plastic over paper. I won't be doing that anymore.
