We didn't plan on doing extra tours at Mesa Verde. We wanted to get to our destination in Utah. I said, "Let's ask the boys what they want to do." We did, and they wanted to stay in Mesa Verde.
It is such a fascinating spot. We decided to go to the Balcony House. I should have guess with the name that this tour was going to be high up. Yours truly is afraid of heights. I don't usually ask questions, I just go with the flow.
I was just taking photos before the tour.
Then when the tour guide got there she mentioned, "If you have asthma make sure you have your inhaler." I ran back to the car a few times while she was talking to get this and that. I don't have asthma all the time, so that's why I didn't even think of having my inhaler with me. I have to be honest I missed a lot of what she said.
I missed the tour guides talk about the 30 foot wooden ladders; that seriously look like they could fall apart at any given time. It freaked me out watching Isaak climb it more than anything. I envisioned him falling. Yikes!
The whole balcony had no guard rail. That was good and bad. Good because the view was amazing. Bad because it's so high! I did it. I had no trouble breathing either. I was so happy that the family in front of us had a Dad that was afraid of heights. I suddenly didn't feel alone.
Can you believe people used to live up here? Navajo call the Anasazi, or "Ancient Ones," who developed an advanced culture and suddenly disappeared hundreds of years ago. -A.D. 1211 and 1278. How amazing!
Their fire pit.
While the tour guide was talking a raven flew and landed in a window. This is one of my favorite pictures of our week and 1/2 trip!
We had to walk right on that edge. YIKES!
Climbing through here was interesting!
I did it! We did it!
Are you afraid of heights?

it's amazing how people can build homes in such unthinkable places! Such a lovely place to visit with the family :)
I'm not even afraid of heights and I don't think I would have been brave enough to do that tour. It's very cool, but I think I will just enjoy your pictures :)
My kids have been to mesa verde, I never made it there, but it looks like a fun place to explore and ponder on, how these people managed.
incredible photos!! what an experience - thank you for sharing
This is cool in a Raiders of the Lost Arc sort of way.

Those views are incredible though. So awesome that you got to experience that!
Whao..those people who build the houses into the mountains must have been really skilled. Great captures this week :)
The raven in the window shot is fantastic! I can see why it's your favorite!
What a great choice the boys made! The Great Scot is terrified of heights as well, me? I am severely claustrophobic.
WOW! Absolutely GORGEOUS!

I bet the boys loved climbing the ladder. I'm not scared of heights in some instances, and in others (like with no guard rail!!) I would be. :)
Wow. Super cool photos. Very nice. Man, those are so cool.
That looks like an amazing place to visit.
I just came back for another look, I missed the raven the first time around, must be an omen or not?
Have a great day!!
I would love to go there! I get tingly over heights but I can do them.
Wow! I was fascinated by a similar stone village in Arizona, but we weren't allowed up there. Mesa Verde National Park just made my wish list of places to visit.
What an amazing place - and fabulous photos too!
omg I'm with you! Double Fear Factor for sure, but how adventurous! Just to think actual human beings lived there. Oh, if those rocks could talk huh! What a great vacation! Thanks for sharing! You sure know a good shot when you see it! Also, I made sure I'm following all your social networks my friend. Have a great day & you have one handsome family there!
Amazing shots! What a cool adventure! Thanks for sharing! :)

Looks like you all had a great time. It sure looks like a place that my family and I would love.

That is a pretty cool building way up there in the rocks. I am not real good when it comes to heights either, at least not that high up.
