The Anchor Fish and Chips @the_anchor_mpls #food #minneapolis #travel

I do like good food, but I'm fairly open to where we go. My only request for Travis when he asked me, "Where do you want to go to eat?" was, "Somewhere Omaha doesn't have."

An art district was close to Walker Art Center. Travis knew someone that went to school there, so he asked him where a good place to eat was. His response was, "The Anchor Fish and Chips".

It was Father's Day, the only meal we were going out for that day, something other than fast food and a great choice.

The Anchor Fish and Chips was so good!

Because they are closed on Monday, I thought I should in fact bring up their hours. Thank goodness it was a Sunday. I think I would have cried if it was a day they were only open 4-11. I get HANGRY when I'm hungry.

What We Ordered:

The boys ordered burgers. How predictable.

Travis ordered their Fish and Chips.

I had no idea what to order, but decided to try something I've never heard of: Poitín Poutine.

Best tasting curds and gravy I've ever had! It was so tasty! I'm glad we decided to go there. It wouldn't be a place I'd even think to go to. What would you have ordered?

Photobucket Problem

On Friday night the images I plugged into Photobucket many moons ago started plastering Photobucket icons on them - all over my site. So annoying, since I have a lot of posts I'm excited to share with you. I did put in a message to Photobucket to see if I can get this fixed - an easy way. They aren't open until Monday. Oh joy! I actually have the image buried in the html coding. It was a long time ago I set that up. I'm going to wait it out to see if they'll be able to do anything on their end before I start messing with things.

*Update: I just went in, and fixed it. Forget Photobucket. I got this!

Random Tid Bits

  1. Before our trip we couldn't get Isaak to stop watching this street artist. He loves anything with demos.

  2. We always talk when we eat breakfast in the morning. One morning Mica was saying that people with pitch black skin are beautiful. I said, "I think it would cool to get a photo of them standing next to someone that's an albino." I think that's already been done, but still cool.

Isaak had no clue what the word "Albino" is. Now when he doesn't know what a word means, which there are a lot of words we tell him the spelling, make him look it up, and use it in a sentence. His sentence that day, "Albinos are weird looking people with no pigment in their skin." We had a talk about how people with Albinism are not weird looking people. Kids are born knowing everything though. They have to be educated. To me people with Albinism are fascinating!

  3. The urban word that is banned in the Apel household is: WENIS. It's the skin on someone's elbow.

When we were out and about Mica would say, "Mom nice wenis!", "Mom I love to play with your wenis!", and "Wow what a big wenis you have!" He knew exactly what it sounded like, and said these things loud, so strangers could hear. Serves me right. I know where he gets that type of humor. It's from my father and myself. I laughed the first few times, then had enough. The urban word is now banned.

  4. When Mica was sleeping on the love seat I wanted to say, "Mica your wenis is sticking up!"

    Humm...

  5. It's been a long time, since I've read an actual book. I mean I read online all the time. I read parts of books for classes, but not an actual book. Over our vacation I read a 600 page book. How impressive is that? Do you read books?

  6. A student I had posted a picture of someone that attached and sexually assaulted her. She can't do much because it's passed the statue of limitations, but a few of her friends were attached and sexually assaulted by the same guy. That's why she posted. She wants people to come forward. She herself wasn't actually penetrated by him, so that's why she didn't turn it in to the cops.

Anyhow he's in the same industry I'm training my students to go in. He's worked on big projects here, in fact there's a painting of him on a brick building in north Omaha. He's won a lot of awards. He's friends with political figures here. I was reading his twitter feed. His twitter handle is @iCreateGreat. A cocky, big wig that lures young women models to take photos of them. Then he expects sexual favors back. It sickens me. I hate that some of my friends are friends with him.

We Visited @walkerartcenter in Minneapolis, Minnesota #travel

Our first stop when in Minneapolis, Minnesota was Walker Art Center. The sculpture garden is free. You can view it at any time.

Hours:

The inside of the museum is closed on Mondays
11-5 Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays
11-9 Thursdays
11-6 Thursdays and Fridays

Make sure you check their hours! We went to the Minneapolis area, then to Duluth area

Prices:

Members are free
Adults $15
Seniors 62+ $13
Students $10
Children 0-18 FREE
Active Military $7.50

I did like that Mica and Isaak both got in free. So many places consider our 13 almost 14 year old Mica an adult now. Vacations are more expensive, than they used to be.

I have to say I won't have all the artists, titles of the pieces, and years they were made. We did a lot of art galleries/museums. I was on vacation. I just wanted to take it in, shoot photos, and make sure my boys were in line.

We Started at the Sculpture Garden:

I do have to say that this is one of the better Sculpture Gardens I've been too. I love that it was free. It was amusing that someone got too close to a sculpture thinking that no one was watching them. Then on a loud speaker a guard said, "Please stand away from the sculpture sir." It wasn't us.

The pathway took up into their most iconic piece:

I'll do a Grover...

NEAR

AND FAR!

Twins!

Flat as a Pancake Person

This one was really cool! I didn't know it was a person right away. You can't see the person flat, but can at an angle.

Shadowy Isaak

Isaak threw himself on the ground and said, "Mom take my picture!" So I did. The shadow is artwork.

The Apel's Rock!

It was Father's Day, so I tried taking some photos of all three boys in one scene. That's not easy when Isaak and Mica bounce all over like Tiger.

Where art thou Apel boys?

They have a bridge tower that they were running and climbing on. Better that than on some sculptures.

Blue Cock

We all had our immature moments of saying, "Hey look at the blue cock!".

NEAR

AND FAR!

It's so funny to me that a blue cock is picture wise in front of a church.

Travis liked this one:

He's late, he's late for a very important date.

If you like Alice in Wonderland, maybe you'll like this one. Although I don't think it's off that story.

Wind Chimes

My neighbors growing loved wind chimes. I remember my Dad hating them so much. Their bedroom was closer to the neighbor's than mine. This tree was full of them. I wanted to capture the essence of them just for him!

Horse

Empty Coat

Mica was actually standing behind this. I cut him out in Photoshop, and put him inside it.

The museum didn't open up until 11, and I think we were done seeing things at 10 or 10:30.

There's this zig zag path that's cool, but wore me out.

Here's the Walker Art Center building:

In the lobby they have these rock bean bags that the boys didn't want to leave. At least they were watching something educational.

Here's my American. Here I thought it was best to think outside the box.

It says, "By standing in the zone created by this drawing, and for the period you remain there, you declare and agree that you are a citizen of the United State of America." He could have been visiting from a foreign land. I suppose that's the point.

An Andy Warhol:

There were a ton of other pieces. Many interactive.

They did have a display of transgender work. There wasn't anything too crazy, for the boys to see. I know they didn't get it either.

Isaak did love this chalk room!

Travis wrote, "Do not exploit the naive youth".

I sort of wish that we would have paid extra to go play mini golf on their patio. When they mentioned that at the desk I didn't know it was all artist made.

What part of this museum would you like to see?

Grandpa

Right before we left, for our week long trip they found my Grandpa laying on the floor. Blood was coming out of him instead of stool.

I was nervous to go out of town. We hardly do go out of town.

We left. Every day I got texts saying how he was doing. I didn't feel like there was anything I could say to make things better. I felt guilty texting that I was doing all these amazing things, when my 93 year old Grandpa was in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital. At the same time I knew if I came home he could go on living.

He ended up loosing 1/2 his blood! They kept giving him blood. He was confused, kept seeing things like many really sick people do.

They didn't know where to send him. He's in an assisted living facility. He doesn't have the care he might need if this happens again.

He made a great recovery! He's up and walking, with a walker. Doctors are amazed with how well he's doing. Most people pass away that have gone through what he went through.

I visited him when we got home. We spent an evening watching fake wrestling. I think he thinks it's real. He does say some things that are off. I think the brain is just like everything else, it gets old and tired. I'm glad he can talk. Some people his age aren't be able to.

One of the off things he said, "I think I'm living in this place for free. I haven't gotten a bill." I said, "Maybe the Navy is taking care of it." Really I know my aunt is paying for him to stay there. I said, "I wouldn't worry about it Grandpa. Just let them take care of you."

Isaak's routing for him to live to 100. We shall see.

WW: Musicians {Linky}

We just got back from going to Minnesota, for over a week.

We went tons of places, so I'll try and post a lot to share what we did. Come back.

This post is focussed on musicians.

Bob Dylan grew up in Duluth, Minnesota.

In Minneapolis they have a huge street art painting of Bob Dylan saying, Times really are a changin'. It's a portrait of when he was young, to middle aged, to older. The painting was done by artist Eduardo Kobra.

I wanted to go to Prince's old house, but Paisley Park is over $50 a person to get in. A bigger deal than that is that they won't let you take pictures. I hate that his family isn't getting anything, for these tours. With me having my sons, I didn't think it would work out. We did drive by at the end of our trip. There's no parking, it's on a highway, and there's a sign that says, "No walkers". Boo! I took photos out of my rolled down window, while my husband drove oh so slowly. Not much to see. It's modern white. The inside is where the magically stuff is.

We walked past an area that had all kinds of stars painted on it. All of the stars were silver, except Prince's was gold.

I was standing there listening to Isaak play on a chained up piano. A group of guys walk up and say, "Can you excuse me. I want to photograph that." He pointed to the gold star. I asked, "Have you been to his house?" He said, "You mean Paisley Park? No. BUT I used to work for him." How cool!

Isaak's been teaching himself how to play a piano with his keyboard that lights up. One of his classes in the fall is Piano Lessons.

I told everyone to stand by a star or two they like. Comment with what star you would pick to stand by.

I chose Indigo Girls and Björk.

Travis likes things heavier than I do. He picked Clutch and NoFX.

Mica's into Nirvana right now. That will change in a month. He loved Queen last year, and now says they are old news to him. Ha!

Isaak doesn't really know musician's names except he's big into Michael Jackson. He likes gold, so he picked Prince.

Here are you choices + what's above that we chose.

What star would you choose to stand by? It's pretty neat to stand in a spot where so many people played/sang. There were more, but I took what I could.
