WW: Musicians {Linky}

We just got back from going to Minnesota, for over a week.

We went tons of places, so I'll try and post a lot to share what we did. Come back.

This post is focussed on musicians.

Bob Dylan grew up in Duluth, Minnesota.

In Minneapolis they have a huge street art painting of Bob Dylan saying, Times really are a changin'. It's a portrait of when he was young, to middle aged, to older. The painting was done by artist Eduardo Kobra.

I wanted to go to Prince's old house, but Paisley Park is over $50 a person to get in. A bigger deal than that is that they won't let you take pictures. I hate that his family isn't getting anything, for these tours. With me having my sons, I didn't think it would work out. We did drive by at the end of our trip. There's no parking, it's on a highway, and there's a sign that says, "No walkers". Boo! I took photos out of my rolled down window, while my husband drove oh so slowly. Not much to see. It's modern white. The inside is where the magically stuff is.

We walked past an area that had all kinds of stars painted on it. All of the stars were silver, except Prince's was gold.

I was standing there listening to Isaak play on a chained up piano. A group of guys walk up and say, "Can you excuse me. I want to photograph that." He pointed to the gold star. I asked, "Have you been to his house?" He said, "You mean Paisley Park? No. BUT I used to work for him." How cool!

Isaak's been teaching himself how to play a piano with his keyboard that lights up. One of his classes in the fall is Piano Lessons.

I told everyone to stand by a star or two they like. Comment with what star you would pick to stand by.

I chose Indigo Girls and Björk.

Travis likes things heavier than I do. He picked Clutch and NoFX.

Mica's into Nirvana right now. That will change in a month. He loved Queen last year, and now says they are old news to him. Ha!

Isaak doesn't really know musician's names except he's big into Michael Jackson. He likes gold, so he picked Prince.

Here are you choices + what's above that we chose.

What star would you choose to stand by? It's pretty neat to stand in a spot where so many people played/sang. There were more, but I took what I could.

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday is all about me discovering something that is different to post. I don't want to post things that you and I have more than likely heard before. I want to find something different. It could be from another country, someone singing from the streets of NY, and more.

This week I'm posting a singer/writer/actor that everyone knows. Hopefully I can share things about him that come as a surprise. Prince has been a long time favorite of mine. I have reason for cover him. His real name is Prince Rodgers Nelson. He was born in 1958. I swear the guy's face hasn't aged a bit. The only sign that he's getting older is the cane that he's used to walk up on stage.

Why do I like him? He can plays a lot of instruments - very well! He's written so many songs! I remember when I got his top hits album I was surprised that many songs that were sang by Cindi Lauper were on there. He wrote them.

I also have respect for his music beliefs. He has recorded a ton of songs, but keeps them locked up in a safe because he hasn't liked where the music industry has gone. So many people, including me listen to music for free. The artist's aren't getting paid what they used to. I'd love to hear everything he has locked up! He removes his videos off of YouTube, and has sued others for Copyright Infringement & Bootlegging. He removes things off the internet in a flash! In fact up to this point he's had a bad website up. He just got a new one: 3rdeyegirl.com. All of his social media sites are under 3rd Eye Girl. Who can blame the man? He has probably never gotten privacy. That's probably why he went by a symbol and now 3rd Eye Girl. I also think he's working with more people. That might be why he shifted the name to.

Then Spotify released a new song of his. Is he finally making peace with the internet?

The song is called Pretzelbodylogic. The whole song is on Spotify, but not YouTube. Here's a preview:

In my opinion he's still got it!

Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Prince Review

Oh how I love the CDs that Rockabye Baby! has to offer.

They take well known bands and turn their songs into lullabies.

I  was lucky enough to review their latest greatest that comes out tomorrow: Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Prince. You can purchase the CD for $16.98.

We've been long time lovers of Prince. My older sister had one of his cassette tapes back in the day. My husband and I listened to him a lot in our college years as well.

Last night I popped this CD in, while I made dinner. The CD is relaxing, yet familiar. My favorite rendition is Raspberry Beret. You can hear music clips on their website here.

I simply love all the illustrations on Rockabye Baby! They are very consistent with their look.

They even have an apparel line that has onesies, t-shirts for both babies and adults.

There is activities for older kids on the inside of the CD.

They don't have Prince on YouTube yet, but here's a Beatles clip. Again if you want to hear Prince, go here.

A handful of their other albums include:

Check out their blog here. They have a lot of helpful posts. One of their recent posts, is a baby shower game.

They are also on Facebook and Twitter.

Today I Was Sung to and I Was a Princess!

Mica sang a rap version of Up On the Housetop. I tried filming him, but he kept forgetting the words. Actually he kept getting the contemporary version mixed up with the old school version. Yep the words were different. No longer does Will get a hammer and lots of tacks; he gets an i pod and lots of tracks. HA

Isaak sang to me Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. He had to sing it three times before I would put it on the blog. The boy wouldn't stop moving. The first time he ended up on the floor, singing in a ball and the second time he had his butt up in the air! This is take three:

Then I made some Christmas Cookies. That's a process!

While I was doing that Mica nominated me as his Princess. Mica was a Prince Mica and Isaak was a King Isaak. They each had robes and hats on. I had to summon the Prince and King when I needed them.

Princess Mommy: "Prince Mica! Hurry! I need your help! The cows are in the meadow and the sheep are in the corn!"
Prince Mica: He shooed the animals out of the meadow and corn. Then I was instructed to kiss him and tell him that I liked his hat! ;)

Princess Mommy: "King Isaak! Hurry! I need your help! Humpty Dumpty is about ready to fall off our red chair!" We actually have one, so I prepped him on there.
King Isaak: Saved him. I gave him a kiss.

This went on for a good 45 minutes! I came up with all kinds of emergencies they had to assist me with. ;)
