Alpine Slides

On our way home we drove through Colorado. I just love that state's beauty!

We didn't have too much time to do anything. I did want the boys to have a fun stop. On my list for going back home was for us to go on Alpine Slides. I remembered going on them when I was a kid in Colorado. They are so much fun!

Have you been on Alpine Slides before?

What I like about them if that they are fun for everyone in the family. You first go on a ski lift up a mountain, or grassy hills.

Our view from the ski lift:

Hi Daddy and Mica!

Hi Mommy and Isaak
 Isaak was so excited!

Every place has different rules about kids. Some places say kids have to go by themselves, while other places say kid have to sit in adult's laps. Isaak had to sit in an adult's lap. Any kid group car had to go in the slow lane.

We should have planned his out better. Daddy, Mica and Isaak all like fast rides. I can go fast on Alpine Slides, but didn't mind if I had to go in the slow lane. Daddy and Mica should have gone in the fast lane. I should have taken Isaak with me down the slow lane. Mica and I went behind him.

Instead Daddy took Isaak, and he was disappointed that the people in front of him were too slow. It still was fun I thought.

This finally wraps up our trip of 2014. All the rest was driving, driving and more driving.

The Four Corners

The Four Corners is the only place in the United States where four states: Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado come together at one place.

In the one spot a person can stand in four states at the same time.

The unique landmark is managed by the Navajo Nation and is open for visits from the public.
  • Admission $3.00 (all ages)
  • Open 7 am - 8 pm (June - Sept)
  • Open 8 am - 5 pm (Oct - May)
  • Four Corners Park: 928-871-6647
We got to the entrance, and decided it wasn't worth the $3, which would be $12 for all of us to get in. It's just one spot. It's not like you get in to see a whole park. We just didn't feel like it was worth the money just to take a picture. Plus it was a windy day.

I had Daddy pull over right by The Four Corners, and we took pictures. It's not the same thing, but it's close.

Do you ever decide that something just isn't worth the cost?

It's not like we were out anything, we were heading to Mesa Verde, which was on our way.

Daddy did get a picture of me, but I hate it. I'm not posting it. It was so windy; my hair was everywhere.

Proof the wind was a little much! His hat wouldn't even stay on.

Did I mention that the sky was bland? No clouds, nothing.

WW: The Great Sand Dunes National Park {Linky}

We went to the The Great Sand Dunes National Park in Saguache County, Colorado.

There's a water area right before you climb the dunes. I joked with the boys saying, "WOW this is just so much better than the beach!"
The trouble is, is that the dunes themselves get hot. Daddy and Mica climbed up them. Isaak walked back towards me. I was stuck in the water part with Isaak.

Here are Mica and Daddy on the dunes:
Isaak and I hung out on the faux beach. The sand is fine like beach sand.
Then a boy on the faux beach came up to Isaak and said, "Hey do you want to play The Lego Movie? The sand is crackle. If I get some on you, you can't move." So they threw crackle at each other. It was pretty funny.

Pikes Peak

When we got to Colorado Springs we were wanting to do something. I looked at some of the hotels brochures. One image stood out. It was a train up Pikes Peak. I asked Daddy, "Do you want to do this?" He called, reserved tickets, and said, "I think we have time."

We rushed to get something to eat, and headed over to get our tickets.

Keep in mind that even in the summer Colorado can get cold. We had our sweatshirts, but I almost wished we had our winter coats for this trip up the mountain.

The place we went is called Cog Wheel Route. It's the world's highest cog train. You can get their food to take on the train with you. Adults are $30 and children 3-12 are $17.50. Daddy swears he spent less then that. I know we bought tickets in advance, which is recommended. There are different departure times from 8 AM to 5:20 PM.

The boys were super excited!

 Holding their tickets.

In all their photos together that day they looked like 2 crazy kids. I guess that's what happens to them when they are cooped up in a car all day.

The view all the way up was amazing!

When we reached the top it was cold! We were up 14,10 feet. They let us out, and we were free to roam for 40 minutes.

Isaak at this point was acting off. He was A) Tired B) Cold and C) The Altitude was bugging him. His complexion was whiter than normal. In every photo I got of him he looked sad. It was a shame because it really looked beautiful there.

Once you get up there, there are bathrooms, a souvenir shop, and places to get food.

How pretty is this?

This little guy kept play peek a boo.

Then we saw what I thought were mountain goats. They were not goats. They were sheep.

Daddy shooting his own photos.

The ride back down seemed to take FOREVER. Everyone was so done with taking pictures. I wouldn't recommend taking the last trip up Pikes Peak if you have little kids. Isaak fell asleep on me. He was so done. It just got pretty late. We were already in the car ALL DAY LONG.

Here's one of the original trains used to hike up Pikes Peak:

The overall trip up the mountain was super fun though! I'm so glad we went.
