Daddy needed to get some small granite pieces. They are for bases, for some sculptures he's been working on. In the past he's gone to places where they make grave stones, and counter tops to get scraps. It's never cheap though.
He thought about a Salvage Yard that isn't too far from our house. I know this sounds crazy, but I love looking through places like that. You never know what you are going to find. They always have tons of old doors, windows, and more.
This had a whole floor that was bathtubs, sinks and toilets. The boys thought it was the funniest thing ever! Mica said, "Isaak think, someone could just use that toilet in the middle of the room!" They both giggled. Isaak said, "Ya and we could take off all our clothes and take a bath right now." More laughter.
Never mind the fact that none of those bathroom things weren't actually there to use.
Daddy got his granite for a steal practically. He was a happy camper that day.
The boys loved running around the outside of the place.
Do you like vintage things, looking at antique shops, scrap yards and garage sales?

Getting Old
Isaak was taking a bath this morning. He decided he wanted to stay in there and play, and play some more. I told him to get out. He said, "Just a little longer Mommy."
I said, "Isaak you need to get out. Your fingers are going to get all wrinkly. You are going to turn into an old person."
He showed me his fingers, then looked at them himself. When he looked at them he started crying. He said, "You are right! I'm turning into an old person."
He stopped crying when I told him that his fingers would go back to normal; after that he got out of the tub.
That was in the morning.
Fast forward to bedtime.
At bedtime Isaak started crying once again. I was thinking his door got shut. He hates his door being shut. His door was wide open. I went in and asked him, "What's wrong Isaak?" He said, "I'm afraid of all the people I know dying and wonder what's going to happen to all their houses?"
I was thinking, Gee wiz isn't he too young to be thinking about these kinds of things? He hasn't watched any scary movies, no one has passed away in our family since the fall when Great Grandma Kent passed away. The only connection I could think of with his thoughts is me telling him that his bathtub wrinkly fingers would make him old. He was really worked up. I said, "Isaak everything is ok. You have nothing to worry about."
He then said, "That one Grandma died. Will my Great Grandpa die to? He's old." I said, "Isaak he is old. Just because he's old doesn't mean he'll die anytime soon. He could live until he's 100 year old, or more. We don't know when he's going to die. If he does die we'll all be sad, but he would have lived a very good life. He has kids, grand kids, great grand kids that all love him."
I told him that everything is alright once again, hugged him and he went to sleep.
I hope I didn't traumatize him with the bath tub wrinkly old man fingers.

Car Talk
This story happened a few weeks ago. I was thinking about not posting it. It's bashing on Grandma, but she laughed when I told her the story.
We were in the car and Isaak said, "I wonder why Grandma doesn't drive?"
Mica said, "I think it's because she's lazy."
I was doing my best to not crack up! She does do a lot of Solitaire playing. Grandpa teases her all the time about it.
Isaak said, "Maybe it's because of her foot."
Mica said, "Ya her foot is pretty messed up!"
To clarify Grandma had Polio and had to get her ankle fused a few years back.
Isaak said, "Maybe she doesn't drive because she's so old!"
By this time Daddy and I were both really was cracking up.
I said, "Boys, Grandma does drive."
They both said, "No she doesn't Grandpa does."
When I told Grandma and Grandpa the boy's conversation they both laughed. Grandpa teased her about being too lazy to drive for a few days after. Then I called Aunt Terra and told her their conversation and we both couldn't stop laughing. Some things are just so funny. I love how they got all this out of Grandma not driving their little beings around. By the way she does drive. It's just when Grandpa and her are in the same vehicle he takes the wheel. That probably happens because she's just too lazy to drive. ;)

Yesterday I Felt SO OLD
I went to my cousin's {wife} baby shower. My cousin's cousin for their other side was there. I know confusing! I used to babysit her. She's now getting her master's degree.
Then I got on Facebook and the little boy, whom I babysat a lot just got married. I went down a little bit on his wall and someone said, "Congrats on the baby boy!" My jaw sort of dropped. He's old enough to have a baby, but I haven't seen him for years, which makes him still young in my mind. I can always remember his age because he's the same age as my two cousins Stacy and Brent, who are both married. Stacy has an adorable kid as well. I think the boy whom I babysat had an surprise with this baby though. No pictures of the baby or the wedding were up. That's usually something people want to share. I hope it all goes well! He was such a great kid to babysit. I loved him and his Mom!
This sounds crazy, but I think babysitting was so much fun most of the time! I got to play with the kids and read fun little stories. It was a blast!

I'm Old!
- Mica is notorious for jumping out of bed, sneaking down the hallway and scaring the crap out of anybody that's in the house.
- Grandpa Spiehs likes to scare people, and so do I. I have a memory of my Dad (Grandpa Spiehs) hiding under my bed after I watched a scary movie, and popping out to scare me. We have a generation of 3 people that like to scare people. We should of all ran a Haunted House!
- This morning I heard Mica get out of bed and went to the bathroom.
- I snuck out of bed and hid behind the wall. He came around the corner, and I quickly popped out. I said a quick, "Hi Mica!"
- He jumped and started crying. The crazy thing was, he didn't start crying because I scared him supposedly. He was going on and with crying and saying, "I'm old!"
- Daddy was saying, "Mica you are not old. Grandma and Grandpa Kent are old. You are not!"
- Mica kept up this old talk for about 10 minutes. He then complained about his legs hurting. Then he moved on with, "I'm so hungry. I'm so thirsty."
- Daddy fed him breakfast, and he gobbled it down FAST.
- Daddy's thinking that Mica's going through a growth spurt and is just having growing pains.
- He's been eating food and drinking water and milk like they are going out of style!

It's My Birthday Today

- Well I turned 34 today. Do I feel old? No not really.
- I feel old around my students and my niece who was born when I was in college and now she's almost driving! My students talk about how great the 90's were, and know nothing about the 80's.
- But then the majority of the people I work with are all older then me. That makes me feel young. They were asking me about illustrators last week saying, "Do you remember when Mark English did the Time Magazine covers?" I said, "Nope I don't remember that, but I know his artwork. Ya, he started being a fine art painter when I was a year old."
- My birthday will be celebrated in early July.
- My question to you (readers), do the pictures (above) of me look more like my youngest Isaak or my oldest Mica (below)? I'm just always curious as to what people think.
