Minneapolis Institute of Art - MIA @artsmia #travel #vacation

We went to Minneapolis Institute of Art - MIA twice. Yep you read that right.

Two Times = Two Posts

This is the first post. You can see the other post here when it's live.

Walker Art Center wins the award for best sculpture garden, but MIA wins the best award for an art museum. Hands down we enjoyed this one so much!

Cost:

FREE

Some exhibits require tickets. We got to go to one of their special exhibits! I'll share that in this post.

Hours:

Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 10am – 5pm
Wednesday: 10am – 5pm
Thursday: 10am – 9pm
Friday: 10am – 9pm
Saturday: 10am – 5pm
Sunday: 11am – 5pm

A lot of museums are closed on Mondays in Minneapolis. Joslyn Art Museum here in Omaha, Nebraska is also closed on Mondays. Possibly it's a thing to be closed on Mondays. Just take note of that if you do travel places. I'd hate for you to get to a place thinking you're going to visit all kinds of museums, only to find out they are all closed.

We had no problem finding parking.

This museum looks fairly small when we walked into it. Then we went upstairs, and it just seemed to get bigger and bigger!

We had already been to Walker Art Center that day. I think the boys were getting tired of walking. We mostly stayed in one section, and then looked at a lot more more the second time we went. Their collection is large!

I don't have titles, dates or names of pieces. I was on vacation, so I just wanted to absorb the art.

The whole section of art we walked through was very peaceful. I remember when I was going to have nose surgery, I bought a lot of elephant stuff. Elephants represent peace in a lot of cultures. I figured I could use lots of peace.

WW: Lincoln Nebraska {Linky}

It's been awhile, since we've been to Lincoln, Nebraska. It was back with the last big women's march happened because it happened right in front of us. Sometimes I don't know where I am. I just learn about those important things after the fact, or in that case during the event.

Many of you haven't been to Lincoln I'm sure. It's an hour from Omaha. It's the capitol of Nebraska. While I'm not into politics, the capitol of every state is usually super pretty! They have all the Husker games there. I'm not into football either. I do like their museums, and art scene.

We spent most of our time in the Nebraska History Museum, which was so cool + it was free!

They had a display of really old puppets. Some may call them creepy, but I liked them.

Puppeteer: Geore Churley:

Meet Glorp!

He was my favorite puppet.

Meet Kalamity Kate:

She was in the puppet show. She had crazy interesting hair!

Presidents:

There were president sculptures there. No Bush Jr., Obama, or Trump there yet. Who's your favorite president?

Clothing:

They had old clothing on display. I wish we'd go back to dresses and bonnets.

Scary!

Haymarket:

The Haymarket is the place to go in Lincoln. This is back in 1987.

Farms:

There was a section with farm tools, machines, and fences. I just liked this image of the barbwire fence.

Drink:

Kool-Aid was first made in Hastings, Nebraska. I can't stand the drink myself. It tastes like sugar water to me. Others love it. They actually have a colored fountain in Hastings, and an event called Kool-Aid Days once a year.

Masks:

If the puppets didn't creep you out maybe these masks will. I like Elsie the cow, but Joan Crawford is a bit disturbing.

Kids!

This is an old school house desk.

They were having a little too much fun at this point. Meaning they were pushing each other's buttons.

We took them outside to walk around. I swear I posted these photos, but couldn't find them. Sorry if they are repeated.

One way the wrong way.

WW: Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum

I just reviewed a book for Ripley's Believe It or Not! Shatter Your Senses!

When I saw that they had a museum in Branson, Missouri we decided to take the boys there. Travis and I went to one in Wisconsin Dells, but the boys had never been to one.

I have to say there museums are so fun, informative, and great for all ages.

Their building is so cool because it's off-kilter. The boys loved the Transformer in front. I just wish I could have captured it without the power lines. Oh well.

Inside they had a lizard hanging from the ceiling:

Art was behind glass. Some of it is really cool. Just as cool, if not better than some art museums.

A sculpture made with beads:

Lots of masks, and they had a display of shrunken heads. There was an i-pad set up to shoot your own head to shrink it.

Do you remember the movie Big with Tom Hanks? Zoltar is the machine that turned him big.

Lauryn Hill made with cassette tapes:

A lion made with rubber tires:

Hulk Smash!

The biggest roll of toilet paper. Don't squeeze the Charmin!

This mask was fun:

They had funny mirrors set up. I think Travis had just as much fun as the boys with this mirror.

The tallest person in history. I thought my Dad was tall. We're all on the same floor that he's on.

Isaak made a new friend!

Have you been to a Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum?
