WW: Road Kill Pizza {Linky}

We were at Subway, and I spotted this pizza in the parking lot outside. It was both gross, and funny as hell!

I decided to give it better looking cheese and pepperoni.

Then I decided to make the pepperoni tops of mushrooms, and then this little village slowly took place.

WW: Earth Oven Pizza {Linky}

We visited a spot here in Omaha where they grow their own food in a City Garden called City Sprouts.

My husband knows the guy that makes Earth Ovens. Travis thinks of him as an artist. He doesn't think of himself as an artist at all. I think it's an art form for sure. It's interesting how different people define art differently.

Mica got to make a pizza in the Earth Oven. They grew the basil and tomatoes (sauce and sun dried tomatoes) in their garden area. It took about a minute to cook.

I got a slice. It was good!

Cauliflower Pizza Crust - Say What?

I'm friends with one of my first students on facebook. Once upon a time she made a Cauliflower Pizza Crust. I've been wanting to try it for the longest time. I thought for sure my boys would knock it down. Travis took liberties to make something new the other night. I figured...Now is my chance. If he gets on me about trying something odd, I can remind him about what he made.

I had no idea where my student's recipe went, so I looked into cyberspace to find one.

The Toppings:

The toppings can be whatever you want. I used 1 1/2 cans tomato sauce, caramelized onions and peppers from our garden, pepperoni because the boys love it, a few garlic cloves, mozzarella to cover the top, and basil from our garden.

I could see making this many ways though. It kind of takes on whatever flavor the toppings are.

Why a cauliflower crust?

For me it's just a healthier way to eat. If someone is gluten free this would be great for them!

The only downfalls are that it's harder to scoop up. It's softer than normal pizza crust. It also has a lot of cheese in it. I could have had less cheese on top, but Travis loaded it on. I also like Greek Style Pizza, which has less cheese and uses feta cheese.

How was it?

It was great!

Crossword Puzzles

The boys wanted to go out for pizza on Isaak's birthday. Can you tell I'm behind in my posts? His birthday was May 19.

Anyhow I wanted to go somewhere that sort of fit in with my diet. Cheese and gluten don't really mix. There is a local pizza place called Zio's Pizza that has gluten free crust. I do love their pizza!

I felt kind of odd when I walked in. There was one of my students serving. Then I look ahead, and there's a table of my students. I like both my family, and my students, but it's odd when the two parts of my life mix. I like to leave them some what separated. Yes I talk about work at home, and yes I talk about family at school, but not a lot. I certainly don't hang out with both together.

I was picturing my student's going on about, "Oh you should have seen her family...", "Her husband tips well.", "Her husband tips crappy.", "OMG Mrs. Apel has to have gluten free." and "Her kids are loud." As you can see I don't like mixing the two parts of my life.

Well it all seemed dandy.

Mica loves watching their TV that is on the ground.

The boys seemed happy that Grandma and Grandpa showed up without them knowing.

Isaak has trouble with crossword puzzles. It didn't help that 1/2 the words were backwards. Daddy helped him.

Grandpa helped Mica; even though he didn't need help.

I love that Zio's Pizza will give the kids dough to play with. I didn't ask for any, since the kids were well occupied.

Our pizza did have cheese, but no gluten. It was a Natural Chicken and Feta Combo, and the boys got Margherite Pizza. I didn't get any pictures of our food, but here it is from their site.

Pizza Tour

Isaak got to go on a tour to Godfather's Pizza with his preschool class last week. You might be thinking, "A pizza place for a tour?"

Isaak being a goof!

It was actually fun. Mica had fun when I went with his preschool class many moons ago to.

This time we got to walk around the kitchen and see the freezers, the oven, the dough maker and their party rooms. The kids got to add the sauce to the premade crust, then add the toppings. I got to make one to. It was only 10:30 AM and Isaak ate 2 pieces out of his personal pan pizza! I ate and then snacked on snap peas and grapes later on.

Math Night

Last night Mica's school had a math night event.

It started with pizza in the gym. I chopped up celery and clementines to take with. Then they had salad to boot. It was mostly iceberg lettuce. I've gotten in the habit of taking extra veggies and fruit when we go to school events and sometimes even out to eat. Isaak ate all his pizza, which he usually doesn't.

Everyone working at the event had a number on their shirt. If Mica asked them what their number meant, he got both an explanation of the number and a slip of paper. He then could write his name on the slip and turn it into a table full of prizes. He was pretty shy about asking anyone about their number at first. I had to push him a little. He's no where near as shy as I was at that age!

After that we had some choices to make. Many rooms were filled with different activities. Mica chose art first. Isaak really got into a tub of mosaic wooden shapes. The art teacher printed out coloring sheets, laminated them and the kids could fill them with mosaic patterns. They looked like this:

Melissa and Doug makes a fancier one like this:
Source
It's a birthday idea for Isaak. I never know if I should go for the cheaper item (since he had fun with it anyhow), or go more expensive? Melissa and Doug's version is around $30 as to where the other generic one is $10.

We had a good talk with Mica's art teacher. She seems VERY NICE!!! As Daddy says, "Not teachery!" To him some teachers seem stuck up, like they know more then most. They have a high pitch, looking down at you kind of voice. Luckily Mica's teachers seem down to earth and not "teachery!"

Mica drew a picture of Batman and Spider-man, while Isaak did his mosaic.

Next we went into the Science room. They had bins of colored marshmallows and tooth picks. The whole idea was to put 3D shapes together. Mica build a 3D triangle and then a bridge that went from one desk to another. Isaak sat around talking about how he wanted to eat the marshmallows. We kept telling him, "NO!" because people's hands were touching them all evening.

Next we went to the food room. In there they got to count how many teaspoons of dried rice and sugar filled up a cup. Isaak really loved that! Then they got to measure different things to make a trail mix to take home. Both boys LOVED that. One thing our boys do well is EAT!

They called Mica's name off 3 times to win things on the intercom. That was fun for him! I know he picked a checkerboard, Toy Story card games and I can't remember the other thing. Mica was so excited he was running around telling everyone, "I won three things!" Daddy got after him because it's bragging. I know that wasn't his intent. He was really just excited. It appears as bragging to others.

It was a fun night.

Family Night

Last night was family night at Mica's school.

The night consisted of:
  • Pizza
  • Story Time
  • A talk about counseling/spending time with your kids
  • Reading/library
  • Fun learning games online (which I'll be sharing in a different post)
We sat down to eat pizza at Mica's usual lunch table. Guess who sits next to us? The girl Mica likes, Kammy. It was interesting to see/hear Mica try and impress this girl. He counted to 100, showed off and was silly. Kammy batted her eyelashes and shot Mica a few smiles. Then Kammy's mom talked with me about Mica liking Kammy. I said, "Yes we've had a few talks about that. We're trying to down play the whole thing. We keep enforcing that she's a friend." Kammy's mom didn't seem concerned.

Then all the kids were called over for story time. Isaak walked over with Mica and sat on the ground to listen to a story. I was a little worried about leaving Isaak there. Daddy told me he'd be fine. He did seem happy to sit with Mica and listen to stories.

We went to listen to the school counselor talk. After about 15 minutes someone brought Isaak to us. His little lip was quivering. :( I felt so bad for him! He probably thought we left the school without him! Then I was wondering how he interrupted the story time! Did he create a HUGE scene?

We went to two other events. Then it was time to meet back up with Mica for the book swap.

It was fun watching kids run around in search for the books they wanted.

On our way home I asked Mica, "So did Isaak interrupt story time?"

Mica said, "Ya! He really embarrassed me! Everyone was looking over at us!"

Daddy said, "Well...what did you do Mica?"

Mica said, "I told him to shhhh!!!"

Daddy said, "Well maybe next time something like that happens, you should give him a hug and say, 'It's ok Isaak. I'm here.'"

Mica said, "Ya I just wanted him to be quiet."

Mica's never had too much empathy for his brother. :( I've heard he does at school with other students, but lacks this quality for his brother. Not all siblings have this protective nature. Mica and Isaak are more like ruff housing brothers. They do play well sometimes. Isaak's more sensitive then Mica is. If Isaak was the older one, I think he'd have this protective quality. They are just so different.

Last Night the Boys and I Made Pizza From Scratch

I know it's not the healthiest thing to eat in the world. Every once in awhile it's ok to eat, and fun to make! The process took forever to make it by scratch.

Isaak loved patting the dough out.

Then the boy's took turns putting different toppings on. There was no fighting! :) They really like helping me in the kitchen, but sometimes fight over who gets to help with what. Isaak seems to be a little more interested in helping over Mica. That's a little odd because Isaak's the younger one.

Here's Isaak's hand putting down the olives:

Here's Mica's hand putting down the healthy pepperoni:

It also had tomatoes from our garden, cubes of feta cheese, garlic, onions and mozzarella cheese on the top.

Oh and the boys got to try something new last night. They haven't had any zucchini in awhile. I love it, Mica kind of eyed it for awhile before trying it.

Zio's Pizzeria

We went out to eat two nights ago to Zio's Pizzeria. We've been there before, but never did they give our kid's a fist sized clump of pizza dough to play with.

Isaak thought it was Play-Doh. Both boy's played with it, then wanted to take it home. They were ok with us saying, "No."

I thought it was a great idea; to hand out pizza dough to keep kids entertained! I got a lot more pictures of Isaak playing with it because he was closer to me, and Mica was entertained with crayons and paper just as equally as the dough.

Saturday Night

  • We met up with some family for pizza, pool and fun.
  • I skipped the pizza and brought something more healthy for me to eat.
  • The boys had fun.
  • Mica couldn't wait to go swimming. He did bite his tongue and lost a lens from his goggles while in the pool. He was in tears over the lens. Later Aunt Terra found the lens.
  • Isaak was fussy! He liked swimming. He did decide to jump up and down on the shallow 0 foot end, fell and banged his head on the concrete. It wasn't too hard (sigh of relief!)
  • He spent most of the time out of the water playing on the play ground equipment that was indoors. He was pretty interested in what other kids were playing.
  • I saw what I thought was ice on the floor. It never would melt. Isaak was jumping up and down, and I realized what I thought was ice was the insides of his diaper hitting the ground.
  • I took both boys to the bathroom right away! Mica was standing behind the door. I asked him to move, and bam a lady opened it up right into his nose. She felt so bad. I told her it was a life lesson for him.
