ONME 36-color Set of Oil Art Colored Pencils Review

I got a new set of ONME oil art colored pencils. I love these!

They are high quality drawing pencils for writing, drawing and sketching.

I plan on using them for sketching.

I sketched up a possible t-shirt design for Isaak. I say possible because he hasn't seen it yet. At school the lunch ladies call him, "Isaak the great that holds a bear cup in his hands." I asked him, "Why?" He said, "I don't know I just like it, and asked them to call me that." So...they do. I asked him the other day if he'd like a t-shirt that said that. He said, "Oh ya!" right away.

He might want it more literal with a bear on a cup.

The magenta pencil looks dark purple, so I thought that what I was coloring it at first. It really didn't matter to me because it's just a sketch. If it were a finished drawing I'd test all the colors out on a scrap paper before coloring with them. It's pretty common to get different colors with art supplies. Acrylic paint is the worst with that. It always dries darker than it looks in the tube.

These pencils are eco friendly. They come in a brown tube, and the pencils are encased in a wood that's not painted. Since these are eco friendly they are great for pregnant women, and children over the age of 3. Under the age of 3 is a risk due to the sharpener, and the tips of the pencils falling off, and possibly causing them to choke.

This is a set of 36 assorted colors. There is a lot of variety! I can always overlap colors to get other colors.

If you are into the trending home/adult coloring books these are for you. A wonderful pencil set for coloring Secret Garden, Enchanted Forest, and Lost Ocean Coloring Books.

They come sharpened and ready to sketch away. There is a small sharper that comes with the set. I love it because the electric sharpeners are not good for colored pencils. They eat too much away, and break their colored tips.

You can blend these with water, turpentine, or mineral spirits. I use a product called Gamasol that is allergy friendly. I didn't blend the image above because it's just a sketch.

Cost:

$44.97 and now $16.99.

Makes the Perfect Gift:

I like to have a lot of colored pencil sets around to give to kids for birthday parties. It makes an excellent present paired up with a cool coloring book, or sketch pad. I think many parents appreciate their kid getting art supplies over toys.

I like this set so much though. I think I'm going to keep it.

Disclaimer: I received these color pencils for a discounted price for the purpose of this review. The opinions are 100% mine.

Back to School

Have you gotten any back to school things?

This weekend I looked on the school's site, I looked on the district's site and there was no list. I called a few place and they both said there is back to school lists up. We ventured out.

There were lists, but not our school's list.

Back home we went. I looked online once again. I googled the school's name, back to school supplies. Finally a list popped up. I went to the store after the boys were in bed, and got everything. Luckily last year I bought some stuff on clearance.

Including Skullcandy backpacks that are originally $45 each, marked down to $10 each. If you can wait for things to go on clearance do so!

The boys wanted identical backpacks, so I got a Spider-Man patch for Isaak's and a Superman patch for Mica's.

School Starts For Me Next Week

I may be a little, or a lot busy next week. School starts. I'm a college art instructor for those that don't know. What I'm hoping for: I hope students get financial aid that need it, and students get our art supply package. Those two things are the biggest needs. After those two things fall in place, then everything else will work out.

I'm confident that anyone who is not good with hands on art, can and will be taught. Sure they may not get A's, but if they try, they will learn. It's amazing to see some of the students really grow. A lot of them do.

Financial aid is getting harder to get these days. Too many people in the past were not good about paying off their loans. They've really tightened up on who gets access to loans. Many wait to the last minute. If their parent's credit is bad, they are denied loans until they get a different co-signer.

Every year I run into a handful of students that have no supplies, and can't afford to get supplies. In my opinion it's pretty important to have means to get these things to do the projects. I try and help when I can. I have a stash of supplies people have left behind to lend to people who come with nothing. I don't just hand this stuff over for good. I might run into another student that needs help at a later date. I can't imagine going to school and not being prepared for it. I have mixed feelings about lending stuff out. Does it show favoritism? Is it just me being a do gooder to people that really need it? The only reason I bring this up is because we've been talked to time and time again about not showing favoritism. It can be such a sticky subject in a teaching atmosphere.

Mica starts first grade in the middle of August. Isaak starts preschool at the beginning of September. I'm taking both boys to get school supplies this weekend. Isaak barely needs anything, but I'll let him pick somethings out. I want him to feel excited about school as well.

Down to Earth Toys

  • I'm on the look out for any giveaways that have art supplies. Mica's super into to drawing and painting now.
  • Art things and Science Kit's are perfect things to get him for his 6th birthday in August.
  • My Baby's Green is hosting a giveaway for Down to Earth Toys. The thing that I thought he'd get into in their $20 and under section is: Their Art Bin. I just think it would be a perfect place to put his art supplies.
