Movin' on Up!

Last Monday Mica moved up in Ju-Jitsu.

Because of the holidays we had to visit a different Y. It had the same Sensei, but different kids in the class. When he tested Mica was throwing kids, and doing pressure points on kids that he's not used to. That's ok, if someone were to come at you in attack mode you wouldn't be used to them.

Sensei threw a ton of instructions at Mica to do. A lady sitting next to me said, "Goodness I wouldn't remember all that!" Mica's been practicing. He knew what he was doing when it came to the instructions.

He has to get 4 black stripes on that belt before he moves up a belt. Right now he's earned 2 black stripes on this belt.

Way to go Mica!

I think it's time we get Mica a new top. His is looking a bit short, and he kept tugging at it.

Third Stripe

I should mention that all the parents signed wavers to let their kid's photos be used online and on their facebook page.

Mica got his third stripe at Jiu-Jitsu this week. I knew he was up for it later this month, but Sensei has an emergency trip to Africa. I asked if he should test that night, or if he should wait until he gets back? Sensei thought Mica was ready, so he went ahead and tested him.

He had to be able to count to 30 in Japanese, do forward, backward and combination rolls, get away from strangle and wrist holds, and do something that can seriously mess someone up (I can't remember the name of it. The person taps them when it starts to hurt).

Here are the rolls:

Here's the thing that really hurts. I can't remember the name of it. The kid taps when it starts to hurt.

Here's the ending ceremony. Sensei always messes with the kids and their names.

Here's a final photo of Sensei and Mica:
