Random Tid Bits

  1. We have 2 old TVs. You know ones with antennas, and they look like a box. We'll watch movies and shows on them until they die. Travis and I are not ones that have to have the next best thing. I know the picture would be way more amazing if it was on a flat screen. I have to be honest...I don't care.

  2. When I went through conformation when I was younger my mom asked me what I wanted? I said, "A rosary!" She said, "But we're not Catholic!" I was raised to be Lutheran. There isn't that much of a difference between Catholics and Lutherans I was told. My cousin's are Catholic. I can tell you their communion is different. Lutherans go up and have a shot glass of wine, and a wafer. The Catholic church I went to had everyone drinking out of the same glass. Catholics had communion much earlier in age than Lutherans. Catholics kneel at times; Lutherans never kneel. Catholics pray to Mary more, Lutherans pray to God and Jesus only. Catholics confess their sins to a Priest, Lutherans confess their sins in prayer. Catholics have Nuns; Lutherans do not. The biggest difference in my mind was the rosary. I wanted one! I was envious of the rosary. I said to my mom, "I know Lutherans don't have the rosary, but they are so artistically interesting!" I never got a rosary. :(

  3. Travis played Macho Man on New Years Eve. Mica loves the song! Isaak and I are sick of hearing him sing it. Every time one of us is online he wants to watch the video. He's so silly!

  4. Our boys are all about fighting this break. Not real fighting, but Lightsaber fighting, wrestling, K-Nex K-Force gun battles in the hallway, boxing, and so on. It's their way of playing. They do all of it with grins on their faces, and laughter coming out of their mouths. I have to admit it's funny watching them. When I'm in the kitchen, and I hear it I want to yell out, "STOP IT NOW!" No one has gotten hurt yet!

  5. Isaak found a book of good behavior coupons in his dresser that I won many moons ago from this blog. The boys have been all about them this week. Each morning for 3 days Isaak's said, "Don't forget about the coupons Mom." On Monday they had to help Grandma clean out her fridge to earn Kindle time. :)

Funnies

Mica was watching The Brady Bunch, while I was outside with Isaak taking care of leaves.

When I got inside I said, "So Mica are you still watching The Brady Bunch

Mica said, "No. Some show for old people is on."

I said, "How do you know it's for old people?"

Mica said, "It's in black and white."

Now that Mica knows how to read, he picks up on things he didn't notice before.

We go out to eat some times. Just not a lot.

Mica said while I was driving, "Mom why don't we have Godfather's Pizza?"

I said, "I don't know. Maybe sometime we should. It's kind of greasy though."

Mica said, "I want some so bad!"

I thought that was the end of our conversation.

Later down the street we pass a Sonic.

Mica said, "I really want Sonic! We really  need to go there sometime!"

I said, "Sure sometime."

The drawback of Mica learning to read.

Doctors

This must be the weeks of doctor appointments!

Last week I had an orthopedic appointment. I learned that: A) I need to get specially made arch supports for my oh so flat feet that I inherited from my Father AKA Grandpa Spiehs. This leads me to a doctors appointment today. My arch supports will be made. B) I had my fist wart on my foot. Gross I know. It's what I have. I had to go to another doctor to get that frozen. It was just cold at first and later hurt like hell. Because it was on the bottom of my foot, it really hurt like hell to walk on. C) I may have to get an MRI. The orthopedic doctor thinks I may have fractured my tibia bone when I fell in October. I still have yet to decide what to do with that. I put in a call to the nurse on Thursday to see what they'll do if I did do that? She has yet to call me back, so I need to call again.

Tomorrow both boys go in for their annual well check visits. I have a list of a couple things I want Daddy to ask the wonderful Doctor Harrison.

Isaak keeps having diarrhea. Another gross thing that we're going through, but such is life. Mica went through a spot in his late toddler years, having diarrhea a lot as well. We came to the conclusion at the time that it was toddler diarrhea. For Mica it lasted for a month, maybe more. Then went away. Isaak, like Mica shows no pain in his tummy. He seems to be in a growth spurt. He's just having very loose stools. He goes a lot! Sometimes in the middle of the night. I did think that the change in fruits could be a part of his problem as well.

Daddy's concerned with Mica's behavior. Mica gets very distracted, is super energetic after school hours. Daddy thinks Mica is just like himself and views this as a concern. Mica does do well in school. The teacher actually raved about him at conference time. Part of me just thinks this is normal boy behavior. He does have a lot more energy and distracted more so than Isaak. I do see a lot of Daddy in Mica. If I were the doctor giving advice I'd say, "Cut out more sugars and put him on a diet with more veggies and protein." Mica is always asking for carbs to eat. I'm finding myself saying, "NO!" more and more. It's hard when he eats all his food, eats another plate of food and is still hungry. The boy is GROWING like a weed! He stays skinny. I'm trying to find ways to sneak veggies into our foods. Our mashed potatoes have carrots or cauliflower in them. Our homemade chicken nuggets have ground up veggies in them - last time I included too much, it was more like a veggie nugget with a little bit of chicken. Our homemade juice has veggies added sometimes. I try and serve two veggies with a meal, which I used to serve just one. Mica's a piggy right now. He dances around and says, "I'm hungry what kind of sweet treat can I have?"

Mica was grounded from TV last week. He said, "Next time you should ground me from sweet treats, I want those more than TV!" Thanks for the idea Mica. ;)

To top off my wonderful week last week, someone tried to rip off my credit card online. Thank got for good banks! They called me right away and put my card on hold. It wasn't lost or a stolen card. They just stole my number. They didn't charge anything to it. They just used it to open an account. How do banks know these things? They saw it was used for a $0 balance to set up an account and called me right away. I had to write checks out to pay for my co-pays last week.

Have You Seen Tangled Yet?

  • I haven't! I want to.
  • Daddy took the boy's to see it while I was at work. Mica and Daddy liked it a lot! Isaak was still into the non-watching TV or movies stage.
  • Isaak now watches just about anything in front of him. That's not really a good thing, but I do like that he can be entertained, while I'm doing dishes or making dinner. I still hear, "Mommy pick me up!" Isaak's much more of a cuddle, needy boy then Mica ever was. He also has that, "I do it" spark as well. Needy and independent, what a combination!
The blog, Go Graham Go! is having a great giveaway going on! One lucky reader will win:
  • A copy of Tangled on Blu-ray/DVD.
  • Adult Size Large Green T-Shirt featuring Pascal the chameleon.
  • Adult Size Large Blue T-Shirt featuring Maximus the police horse.
  • A do-it-yourself paper lantern!

In the Zone

  • Isaak's never been too into TV. Mica likes TV. If you'd let Mica, he'd watch TV all day. We do not let him watch TV all day!
  • The only shows Isaak will ever sit through: Elmo {he hates even the little breaks Elmo takes! If Elmo isn't on the screen Isaak doesn't like it}, Fisher Price  - The Little People {they do have movies for characters Eddie, Freddie, Sarah Lynn, Sonya Lee, Michael and Farmer Jed. Yes, I know all the characters from when Mica was little!} and part of the Toy Story movies.
  • Today Isaak wanted to see Elmo's Potty Time.

A Rare Moment!

  • Isaak still doesn't watch TV often.
  • I'm fine with this.
  • I just captured a rare moment of Isaak and Mica watching TV.

TV

  • Mica's been begging to watch TV. We just don't have it on very much here. He has all these new toys from his birthday that we haven't let him watch TV.
  • We have no cable, and for now we're fine with that.
  • He asked to watch PBS Kids as soon as he woke up. I have no problems with PBS Kids, Mica learned his letters through Word World and Super Why.
  • I turned on the Spanish Channel. Don't worry there was a cartoon on, not soap opera's.
  • He sat there and watched the whole thing without a word. LOL
  • Maybe we can teach him Spanish this way. That was the only class I didn't pass in high school. English was hard enough for me to learn.
How much TV do you let your kids watch in a day?
