1 Night Movie Giveaway

I do enjoy a romantic comedy every once in awhile. It seems that by having boys I tend to watch mostly action flicks these days. Level 33 has a new film 1 Night. It has romance, comedy, and drama. I loved watching something different for once.

Starring-

1 Night stars Pitch Perfect’s Anna Camp along with Justin Chatwin (Shameless):

It also stars Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games) and Kyle Allen (The Path):

It also starred Kelli Berglund, Roshon Fegan, and Evan Hofer

Written and Directed By: Minhal Baig

Produced By: Kerry Barden, Han S Canosa and Marius A Markeviciusi

About-

1 Night discusses relationships. They are not always easy because you have to work at them. It is about rekindling that passion and love as well as finding it for the first time, by following two couples at different stages of their romance.

30 something Elizabeth (Anna Camp) must decide whether to salvage her relationship with Drew (Justin Chatwin) after much personal disappointment.

Meanwhile, Bea (Isabelle Fuhrman), a worrisome teenager, reconnects with her introverted childhood friend, Andy (Kyle Allen) to overcome their difference in high school status following their prom.

Past and present collide as two couples explore love over the course of one night at a hotel.

It’s perfect for Valentine’s Day and after all isn’t February the month of love?

Watch 1 Night. It's on demand, and in a theater near you.

What I Thought-

1 Night is a sweet movie. I forgot how difficult dating really is. It was neat how they had 2 stories going on, and them coming together.

You Rule #Valentines

Last year the kid's principle sent out a letter asking for parents to try and not send candy for treats.

I spotted rulers 1/2 off after the school sales in the fall. I bought a ton! Enough for two classrooms of kids + more.

On Pinterest there was ruler Valentines. I thought I'd try something similar with my own spin on it:

I brought them all home to cut them out. Sure enough I got eye rolls from every boy in the room. Travis, "Really you're going to do that for their Valentines?" Isaak, "Mom kids like candy not rulers!" Mica, "Ya that's pretty lame Mom!"

I refused to cut them out. I let 55 print outs sit on the floor for probably 3 days. Travis said, "Aren't you going to do anything about those?" I kind of looked around like I couldn't see what he was talking about for a moment. It reminded me of that episode of Everybody Loves Raymond when their suitcase sat on the stairway for a few weeks, and Debora acted like she didn't see it.

Just Watch the First Few Minutes

After a minute he repeated his question. Pointing at the Valentines. I said, "You can go buy some. I'm done trying to please you guys." Pitty Party

I do have a way of guilty people without meaning it. I mean seriously though. I bought them, designed them, printed them, and then they boo boo the whole idea.

Travis cut about 1/2 of them out. Then he said, "You should just slide a lolly pop in right here." Isaak said, "That's a great idea! They just don't want peanut anything, so no chocolate or peanut butter."

I got 2 packages of lolly pops, and we were good.

Isaak was more the helper! Mica hides in his room, so he can escape from helping. Mica will help if I ask. I took photos of Mica's Valentines because his had the lolly pop on all the same side + we did his last, so they were lined up all nice for a photo.

I know they won't fit in the kid's boxes, but they are fun and different.

Do you pass out Valentines?

I give my own family (including me) a small box of chocolates. I was going to get Mica a Hello Kitty box because it's a running joke that he likes her. He really doesn't. I like Hello Kitty though. Then I saw that the Hello Kitty chocolate boxes were a few dollars more, and didn't have the variety as a bigger plain box did. There you have it - we're all getting plain heart mixed chocolate boxes.

I print off an online Valentine for my students. They seem to light up when they walk into the lecture hall to see a Valentine and heart candy at their desk. Whatever makes them happy.

Mad Libs Valentines

Are you wanting to give fun Valentines that are not sugar coated? My kid's school has been moving away from school treats. I think they still can give Valentines that have treats, but they have to be sent home to eat.

I've been trying to figure out a way to make Valentines fun without spending a ton of money. I saw the "You Rule" Valentine - It's a wooden ruler with a Valentine wrapped around it. I love it, but man wooden rulers times 50 or so kids is a lot of money!

I bought a thick Mad Libs book at Target. It was more cost effective then their smaller books. You can get it on Amazon. They also have Valentine themed books on Amazon that I didn't see in the store. I'm going to put one or two sheet(s) of Mad Libs rolled up with each Valentine, along with a pencil.

If you like these Valentines, feel free to download them (see below) to print off.

Mica changes his mind on his favorite color, so I went with red, in his Valentine's background.

Isaak loves sparkly shimmery gold, so that's the color of his background.

Homemade Valentines

The boys said they want to make Valentines this year.

That's translated to: "We want you to make really cool ones of us being super heroes on your computer Mom."

It really didn't take that long. I asked Mica, "Do you want me to post funny Valentine's jokes on your Valentines?" He said, "Yes." But when he saw Isaak's Valentines that I made Mica said, "Mom I want ones just like Isaak, but I want to be Iceman."

I didn't even know who Iceman was. But I learned.

I saved money by making them. I spent more time than I would have liked to though.

The Weekend

We had a pretty low key weekend, how about you?

On Friday night we went out to hand out flyers for Daddy's gallery. Every year he is responsible to have new artists apply, and get in to show their work. He's a mentor, and a judge both.

On Saturday the boys went with Daddy to work. They demolished our old toilet. Pictures and video will be coming for that for my WW this week. Let's just face it everyone likes destroying things that they want gone.

We took them to Barnes and Noble for their Lego party. It was just ok. To be honest I was disappointed. They got an activity sheet, a cookie and punch. Then they were told once they finished it that they would get a prize. Well the prize was a Lego movie poster. The boys were expecting a small Lego set. Mica said, "Really this is the prize?" I had to, "Shhhhh..." him. I said, "Mr. you can be thankful for whatever you get!"

We moved on. At home we found a lot of left over Valentines they had throughout the years. Why they put 15 in a box is beyond me. Most have 20 something in their class. We always have to buy 2 boxes, and have left overs. They decided to put some Valentines together. I have to say that I have always wanted to make my own Valentines. Characters that they like end up ruling. Candy ends up ruling to.

I wanted the boys to make these for their classmates:

Mica said, "Where's the candy? I want to hand out candy! I don't think those will fit in everyone's Valentines boxes Mom." Isaak said, "I don't get it." The boys won. Mom lost.

What about you? Have you ever made Valentines as a kid, or with your kids?

As a side note: I'm a featured guest writer over a Sakura Haruka. Go check it out. It's a post about how we raise our children here in the US. You can tell me if you agree with what I wrote, or not.

His Butt is Getting Big

Today we ventured out in the bitter cold to get a few things. I thought we'd have to go to more than one place; instead we just stopped off at Target.

I had to get Valentine treats for Mica's class party. I dislike that their treats have to be bought. I understand it, but I like to make things. I think it's so funny that we can't bring homemade treats, yet the PTA board can sell them at their fairs to raise money for the school. I ended up buying low salt Vics popcorn and mini granola bars that had pink candy melts in them. The only problem is that those granola bars were processed around peanuts. What sweet treat isn't? Lets be honest, kids do not want healthy foods for a Valentines Party. I don't know if I should venture out yet again, or just keep what I have? If I send them, I'll also send a note that they were processed around peanuts. Then any child that's allergic can just have popcorn.

I also went through the boy's section and got Mica another winter hat, gloves, silver exercise shorts and underwear. I told Mica, "Son your butt is getting bigger, so you need some new underwear." We both had a laugh. In truth he has a tiny butt for how tall he is. I let him know that. The last time I got Mica new underwear he told the meet and greet lady at Walmart, "We're here because my butt is getting so BIG." That lady could not stop laughing. Mica was so excited to pick out new underwear this time. He picked out Cars 2 and Superhero ones. He refused to put them in the cart. He held them the rest of the time throughout Target. When we got home I un-packaged the new underwear for Mica to put away. NOPE he undressed and tried them all on. Not because I asked him to either.

Valentines

I helped Isaak and Cousin Elijah with Valentines this weekend. Cousin Evan did his already. I didn't get pictures with Isaak or Elijah because I was practically doing it for them. They both still need to by guided when writing.

This is the first year I didn't have to help Mica.

He knew exactly what to do and wanted it done his way. I went over and started stacking the Valentines he had done, BIG MISTAKE! He got annoyed with me. He had them in the same order with his directory. He wanted to leave them that way on the table. Funny thing is, is that they all got thrown in a bag in the end anyhow.

Easy Peasy Valentine Coloring Book Pages

The company Frecklebox has free coloring book pages.  Since I have my newphew's Evan and Elijah coming to stay with me for a few days next week; I printed some out. I love how you can customize their names!

Also Little People by Fisher Price has printable cards you can print and color for free.

She Knows has all kinds of activities for kids. I like their Valentine coloring book pages again for free.

I Love This With My Whole Heart!

This story is from a few nights ago.

Daddy said something like, "I love this with my whole heart!" I'm not even sure what it was that he was referring to. I think it was in regard to his healthier Alfredo sauce he made.

Mica said after dinner, "Mommy you should tell Daddy not to talk about love and hearts until next month." I had no clue what he was talking about at first. Then he said, "Well Daddy said 'I love this with my whole heart.' That is supposed to be said in February. That's the month of Valentines day."

I said, "Mica I can see what you are saying, but you can say the word 'love' and 'heart' any time of the year." He kind of looked at me funny; it was probably the same look I gave him when he first started talking to me.

I wonder why Mica hasn't told Isaak to stop singing Christmas songs? I hear Jingle Bells and Up on the Housetop many times throughout the day. :)

Travling Around Town

  • This morning we went to Borders to get a few books with Grandma and Grandpa Spiehs' Valentines gift cards.
  • The boy's were super excited!

Mica got this book:

I like the illustrations mixed with photography! It's a Caldecott Honor book.

Isaak got these books:

Isaak likes the shape of the bus. I liked that the Spot book was on the clearance rack, and it came with 3 stories on DVD!
  • Then we went to Nobbies. I had to get a few party game things for my cousins baby show next week.
  • Our last trip was to Costco. Isaak kept saying, "I want bamples please!" I could not tell what he was asking me at first! He was getting frustrated with me. Finally I figured out that "Bamples" are "Samples". He kept asking for samples over and over again. A few people laughed and one lady said, "He knows about the good stuff!"
  • In the car Isaak untied his shoes and said, "I tied my shoes Mommy." Little stinker! He also unraveled one of my favorite hats he has a week ago.
  • Today the boy's both got an A+ while running errands. They were really good. No complaining. Isaak stayed dry.
  • I didn't need to make lunch when we got home thanks to all of Costco's samples, or should I say, "Bamples"! ;)
