Fur Real

  • Isaak was cracking up over this Chimp at Walmart today.
  • It moves around pretty realistically.
  • Daddy thinks it's creepy, I think it's cute.
  • They had other animals, but this is the one that moved Isaak the most.
  • Problem: The toy is for ages 4 and up. It's also $50.

Slap Stick Humor

  • Isaak's been slapping Mica. We tell him, "No!" He thinks it's funny, and slaps him even more.
  • We have to redirect him.
  • Later on I have to laugh. It's sort of funny seeing a 15 month old slapping a 4 year old. I'd never laugh while it's happening, or even let them know that it's funny at all. But...deep inside it sort of seems like a slap stick scene to a movie.

Ungrateful Children

  • It's my sister Terra's birthday today!
  • Mica walks in and says, "Happy Birthday". My nephew Evan crawls out of bed, and wouldn't say too many words. No, "Happy Birthday Mommy!"
  • Mica was the same way with Daddy a week ago. I guess he did sing him Happy Birthday just before he went to bed.
  • I think it's funny that when it's a kid's birthday, they are all over that. When it's someone else's birthday they just don't care because the focus isn't on them. They may only care when they get to help unwrap a present, or eat cake and ice cream.

Mica's 4 Year Check Up

  • Mica weighs 38 pounds, which puts him in the 66th%.
  • He is 41.1", which puts him in the 84th%.
  • Mica blinks a lot just when he's tired, so it's just that a tired thing.
  • He passed his eye site test. They do the test much different from when I was little. There was a little black book, funky glasses they put on to see shapes and letters.
  • The lack of muscle in his hand, Doctor Harrison is a little concerned about. He's having someone from our school district come out to analyze Mica to see if he needs help. We had this done with his speech and walking when he was 2. Mica was too advanced for them continuing to work with him on those things.

Isaak's 15 Month Check Up

  • Both kids were picked up early from Grandma and Grandpa's, so they could go to their well visits.
  • This is only the 2nd time I've been to the new office. I went a different way because I was coming from a different part of Omaha. I ended up turning on Harrison St. because that's the boy's doctor's name is Dr. Harrison, and I had the name on my mind. After realizing that nothing looked familiar, I had to turn around to get to Gilles Rd.
  • I asked a lot of questions today at Doctor Harrison's office.
  • Isaak weighs 21 pounds 6 ounces, which puts him in the 9th%.
  • He is 31.75", which puts him in the 65th%.
  • Isaak's good on vocab, follows simple directions.
  • He can use a pillow anytime (something he's getting for Christmas).
  • He is bow legged. They don't put kids in braces anymore because they find it really didn't help the process of straightening them out. He's bow legged because of how he was situated in the womb. His legs should straighten out by the time he's 3 years old.
  • He can have peanut butter at 18 months. Natural peanut butter is something we eat a lot of in the mornings.

I Can Unlock the Door

  • Isaak found my car keys, took them and pretended to unlock the front door.

Beat on the Brat with a Baseball Bat

  • Cousin Evan accidentally hit Mica with a plastic bat outside.
  • It was an accident.
  • Mica gets too close to people swinging on swings, and in this case he got too close to Evan swinging a baseball bat.
  • It looks as though he's going to have a big bruise.
  • Of course we have an appointment to go to the doctor tomorrow. I hate going when one of my children looks beat up! I don't want them to think I did it. I think our doctor knows better though.

Parrot

  • This is Mica's drawing of a parrot.

First Day of Preschool

  • It was Mica's first day of preschool (his second year).
  • They trace their name each time they come in the door.
  • They talked about being unique today.
  • They celebrated Mica's birthday since his birthday was Aug 10th.
  • I volunteered to be the first one to bring in treats. I cut up carrots, and make Rice Crispy Treats with peanut butter and chocolate spread on the top.

Done!

  • Isaak now holds his plate up and says, "Done" when he's finished eating.
  • He of course doesn't do this 100% of the time. Maybe now that he can say this word, he'll throw food less? I'm hoping!

Preschool Starts Tomorrow

  • We had a parent meeting for Mica's preschool tonight.
  • Mica starts school tomorrow.
  • He's really excited, and didn't want to leave tonight.
  • Isaak and Elijah enjoyed playing with Daddy in the nursery.
  • Mica's field trips for this year are to go to the Dinosaur Exhibit at the Fontelle Forest, a play at the Rose Theater, the Circus and they will go to the other church campus to play on their new playground equipment once it is all built.

Another Shirt I Won

  • I just won a $25 gift certificate from Ju Ju Beane Boutique.
  • My favorite section on their site is their organic clothing.
  • I got the unisex shirt for Isaak. I figure that I can put a plain long sleeve shirt under this during the cold months. I love natural looking or bright clothing.
  • No winnings for Mica lately. Just in Isaak's size.
  • I won this through My Wee View.

Doctor Coming Up

  • Mica and Isaak have their doctor appointment on Thurs. this week. That reminds me I need to tell my parent's I'll be picking them up early. My mind still thinks that Travis has them on Thurs and Fri. The joys of teaching, and schedules changing.
  • I've been writing down a list of questions this time. I just knew I'd forget something.
  • I'm going to talk to the doctor about Isaak's bow legged hang ups, Mica's poor muscle skills in his hand's, the couple of flu shots they are supposed to get and more on tummy issues.
  • Mica hasn't had any tummy issues for awhile, but when he gets them it's constant. I'd like to know what the doc thinks. I have the same problems. I think it's linked to stress. Looking back to last fall, Mica had a fairly new brother that had gotten out of the hospital with meningitis, so Mommy wasn't around for a week for the birth and a week when Isaak was sick. Then he started preschool. Stressful, probably.
  • I also started a tally of all the words Isaak can say. He's up to 15, but like any kid his age he doesn't say them when you want him to. It's like a couple words over and over again this day, then the next day he focuses on a different word. His vocabulary is growing though. I love how he's really starting to mimic too. He was actually trying to baby sing The Itsy Bitsy Spider, so cute! I don't know if he'd do it again. It's all in the age.
  • Through Mica's tongue stuff and actually seeing a speech therapist; I've learned that as long as you know they can say a word and it sounds similar it's considered a word that they know. Even animal sounds are considered words. Mica spoke way over his level (better then Isaak); he really didn't need a speech therapist at all. Doctor's thought of Mica's tongue stuff as a mystery, so they treated him for awhile. It's better to be safe then sorry.
  • "Mica" and "Isaak" will probably be some of the last words Isaak says. The "Ca" sound is one of the last sounds they pick up. Mica said, "Dock" for clock for a long time.

Banana Smash

  • Isaak was more into smashing the banana inbetween his fingers this morning then he was eating the pieces.
  • Stinker!

Isaak is Taking Over Our Bed!

  • We're not a fan of co-sleeping! I just sleep better knowing that my son is safe in his crib.
  • But...Isaak has been waking up early lately! Like 4:30 AM early. I take him into bed with us, then he falls back asleep. It's so close to the time to get up; I usually don't bother taking him back into his crib.
  • If it's anytime before that, he goes back into his crib.
  • Isaak sleeps longer usually, but it's just been the last week or so that he'd been waking up so early.

Bad Manners

  • Daddy was showing Isaak how to blow bubbles in his soda.
  • Isaak thought it was hilarious! I had to remind Daddy that what he was teaching him was bad manners. At least they were having fun.

Isaak Drunk

  • He's not really drunk, but he was crawling and walking like he was.
  • Isaak didn't take an afternoon nap, and his coordination was off.

Say Ball!

  • Mommy said, "Isaak say ball!"
  • Isaak said, "Bahh."

Isaak Hangin Out

Happy Birthday Daddy!

  • I got him a Nemomatic book.
  • It's full of robots! Really cool work that a guy we went to school with (Nemo) makes.
  • I also got him a "Grumpy" shirt. Travis like character shirts, and Mica has fun picking them out with me. This one is Grumpy from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It looks close to the one featured, but not the same shirt.
