Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

I started doing what I call Sing, Sing a Song Saturday.  I'm going to post one song on Saturdays that the boys or I like.

The song may be part of a movie, a kid's video or just a song we like. It may or may not include words. I'll try and include why we like it and/or the history of the song/singer.

This week I was watching different videos and spotted this lady Florence + The Machine and love her voice!

Florence said: “I want my music to sound like throwing yourself out of a tree, or off a tall building, or as if you’re being sucked down into the ocean and you can’t breathe,” says Florence Welch. “It’s something overwhelming and all-encompassing that fills you up, and you’re either going to explode with it, or you’re just going to disappear.”

Shake it Out

Lowes Clinic

I know I've blogged about the Lowes Clinic for Kids before. Kids get a free apron, a badge for a completed project, protection goggles (that they don't really need, but look fun), and a certificate.

We love it; except for the times when Mommy's finger gets nailed, or something gets nailed on the wrong way. Two times ago my finger got nailed; I got a blood blister. Last week two major parts got nailed on wrong.

See the side piece that holds the wings on? Yep those pieces got nailed on backwards. Mica was determined that they went on the way he put them on. I was silly enough to trust his instincts. He's so good with building. Then they had to rip them apart. We had to put them back together the right way. That's all part of it; learning!

So have you seen Rise of the Guardians? I haven't. Is it good? Mica's been playing it at recess; he hasn't even seen it yet.

The boys sometimes refuse to have their aprons tied. Isaak likes to wear his in the back. He says, "It's a super hero cape Mommy! I'm super hero Lowes Clinic!" Mica just doesn't want to mess with the tie.

Let me tell ya they get so excited for their new badge. I just iron that badge on with my flat iron. It works great!

They also fly around their toy for a long time. The check out person by the door smiled as we walked out of the store. Why? Because the boys were flying around their planes and making a whole lot of sound effects to go with it.

This Saturday they are building this:

Show up and you can probably build one to. They usually have extra kits; when their website says they are full.

Introducing Humerus the Funny Bone! Review

I got Introducing Humerus the Funny Bone! to review. I have to say that the packaging is adorable! Humerus is in a packaging box that is on a faux stage.

My boys love telling jokes. Sometimes they are funny, most of the time they are not. Hopefully the Humerus the Funny Bone will help with their joke skills.

By clapping the  Humerus the Funny Bone will tell a joke. There are dozens of jokes stored inside him.

Some jokes include:
  • What's the difference between a whishbone and a backbone?
  • How many bones are in your body?
  • Why did the actor break his leg?
  • There is a lot more stored inside.
About:
  • It is $29.95
  • Dimensions: 11 3/4" x 2"
  • A great gift for kids, adults, especially orthopedists

What I thought:

I don't know if my kids will get all the jokes. It is fun. It's a cute toy. I did notice that I had to get really close when clapping to get it to start telling a joke. It's going to make a great stocking stuffer.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

This time of year is crazy busy. does anyone else feel that way? Since I was sick last week, I've been playing catch up this week.

It's finals time at school. All the students projects were due this week. Next week are the exams.

For some reason Mica's school decided it would be a great idea having their holiday program smack dab in the middle of the day. Last year it landed on one of my class days; when the students had a final. This year it's later.

This year Isaak's preschool program is smack dab in the middle of my mandatory inservice meeting. Of course it doesn't help that he's sensitive and going through some stranger anxiety thing. I asked to the time off and attached a letter begging for the time off. I haven't gotten the time out form back, so I'll see if it happens. Otherwise just Daddy will have to go. Since he's in two preschools he has another program that same night. I will be able to go to that.

Thunderstruck Blu-Ray Combo Pack Giveaway

My husband is into sports. He wishes our boys would be more into them. Mica and Isaak are both hesitate to catch a ball. Daddy likes football, basketball and baseball.

Warner Bros. is proud to announce the release of Thunderstruck on DVD and Blu-Ray! It came out December 4, 2012!

I know this would be a movie Daddy would love! I think it's great that it's a family movie!

NBA superstar Kevin Durant plays himself in this action-packed family film about a basketball star who switches talent with a klutzy 16-year-old fan. When Brian (Taylor Gray) magically switches basketball skills with his hero, Kevin Durant, he becomes the star of his high school team...while Kevin Durant suddenly can't make a shot to save his life! But with the playoffs approaching, Brian learns that being a true winner means working hard at your own game, and he tries to make things right in time to prevent a catastrophic end to his hero's season!!!

Check out the cool Thunderstruck widget below!

WW: School Events {Linky}

Mica's school had Grandparent's Day a few weeks ago. Grandparents go and have lunch with their grandson or granddaughter. We just got the picture back:

Great Aunt Becky (the one in pink) went. Mica calls her, "Grandma" more then "Aunt Becky".  The other two are my parents. In total Mica has 2 living grandmas, 2 living grandpas, 1 living great grandpa, 1 living great step grandma that he's never met and Great Aunt Becky that he calls, "Grandma" sometimes.

Then last week his school had a Dog Story Session. People with well trained dogs came to read dog books to the kids. Once they heard three stories, the kids got to go take their stamped book mark over to get popcorn and bottled water.

The kids with Mica and Isaak are two of Mica's friends. Their parents gave me permission to post the next two photos.

The next picture is a great image of Isaak, but Mica has his eyes closed. Isaak LOVES animals. I always feel bad because we can never have any furry pets. I have stupid allergies.

Dead Turkey

I thought this was sweet:

It says:

I am thankful for the trees we clime climb.
I am thankful for our teacher Mrs. Shearer.
I am thankful for food!
I am thankful for my Mom and Dad.
I am thankful for family.

I said, "So Mica when have you ever climbed a tree?" He said, "Well I climbed one once at the park."

Then I went to go take a picture of his turkey. Mica said, "So Mom do you like my dead turkey?" I said, "What?" He said, "Well can't you tell it's dead?" I said, "Why does it seem dead to you?" He said, "Come on Mom can't you tell it's dead? It's eyes are crossed out!"

A project that was so sweet, went to a project I didn't quite know what to think of.

I know turkeys are dead when we eat them, but a 7 year old drew it dead. How odd.

Sort of Like Gum, But Not

We still have Halloween candy left. I think I'm taking it in to class and giving my students a piece for our midterm review game. Last night I let Isaak have 3 small pieces. He picked Laffy Taffy as one of his choices.

He started chewing it and said, "WOW this is just like gum, but not!" I think I've only given him Glee Gum a few times because I knew it is better for you than other gum brands. There's always that chance they'll swallow it.

Isaak went to Mica's room and repeated, "WOW this is just like gum, but not!"

Then he went to Daddy, who was in our room and repeated,  "WOW this is just like gum, but not!"

I'm surprised he didn't go to the front porch and scream out, "WOW this is just like gum, but not!"

Stick To It Pets - A Magnetic Puzzle Book Review

I am so lucky to review Stick To It: Pets - A Magnetic Puzzle Book By: Milena Kirkova and Jeff C. Cole.

I love children's books! They just have so many fun illustrations that many adult books sometimes lack. I strongly believe that kids need to be read to a lot when they are little. That helps them to be interested. Thankfully my children love to be read to.

Stick To It Pets - A Magnetic Puzzle Book is great because Isaak has been asking for new books and a puzzle for Christmas. This book has both.

It has a geometric animal on one side and a stylized animal on the other. In the back of the book there is a magnetic sheet of shapes that are easy to pop out. The pages of the book are magnetic and it is a hardbound. The magnet shapes line up with the illustrated geometric animals.

Once I showed Isaak what to do with the magnets, he was in his own world. He had to show Mica all about his book. His loved his "orange magnets".

I passed this book around to my art students as well. We had just gotten done talking about how to simplify illustrations into shapes. It was a perfect  example for what we were discussing in class!

This book is rated 5 stars on Amazon. I look at ratings when reviewing or purchasing a product.

It's on sale at Amazon for $13.25.
It on sale at Barnes and Noble $14.52.
If you are interested in purchasing this book and need their ISBN number it is: 9780740797262.

If you are looking for a book that has a lot of text, this really isn't a book you'd be interested in. If you are interested in keeping your child busy and build up their problem solving skills and helping them create their own masterpieces this is a great choice!

Woolzies Dryer Balls Review

I am very excited to share with you my opinions about a product I recently found out about called Woolzies Dryer Balls.

Some things about Woolzies Dryer Balls:
  • They are 100% pure wool
  • They are handmade in Nepal from New Zealand wool
  • They contain no chemicals
  • They save time, energy and money
  • They act as a natural fabric softener
  • They reduce drying time
  • They are noise free
  • They soften clothing
  • They last at least 1,000 loads
  • They can be used even if you are allergic to wool, since they don't come in direct contact with the skin
  • They are $35.99
What I  think about Woolzies Dryer Balls:
  • I was amazed at how little drying time my clothes needed. It said on the box that by using them it cuts drying time 25%. I actually thought it cut it down even more. I tried them on 3 loads.
  • I didn't mention a thing about our clothes feeling softer. My husband actually said, "My shirt feels softer. Do these wool balls do anything to our clothes?" :)
  • Isaak, Mica and I have sensitive skin, so I feel better about using dryer balls that are good for our skin. The boys suffer every once in awhile with eczema and I'm allergic to some things in soaps and lotions.
  • The only negative and this is not the products fault, is that I fear the boys finding the wool balls in our basket of clothes and will start tossing them around. What can I say, they are all boy. Six wool balls is a lot to keep track of. I've had problems with Isaak tossing around our lesser quality rubber dryer balls.
