Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

I started doing what I call Sing, Sing a Song Saturday.  I'm going to post one song on Saturdays that the boys or I like.

The song may be part of a movie, a kid's video or just a song we like. It may or may not include words. I'll try and include why we like it and/or the history of the song/singer.

This week I've been listening to Ray LaMontagne. I love that he sounds just as good live as he does on CDs.

He reminds me of Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Their music never gets old.

Hold You in My Arms

The sad lyrics still are in my mind. "I found myself face down in the ditch with booze on my hair and blood on my lips. A picture of you, holding a picture of me, in the pocket of my blue jeans."

A Good Week

I have to say that Isaak's bounced out of his troubled times. He's been much easier to deal with. It was like a few weeks of a crabby 4 year old. Now he's better. He still is doesn't like us out of his sight. He's going though some stranger anxiety. For instance I was down stairs doing laundry. Isaak freaked out because he didn't know where I was. It's that kind of stuff. At least he's not having temper tantrums like he was a few weeks ago. The boy hasn't wet the bed for months now! :) We're so happy about that!

Isaak is very into wanting to write. It's really cute! He asks how to spell things all the time. I can't always tell what he's wrote, but he's getting better!

Last week we had Isaak's preschool conferences. This week we had Mica's 1st grade conferences. Conferences were strange with Mica. I've heard my co-workers say that conferences are boring. Now I get what they are talking about. Mica's teacher just said, "He's good at pretty much everything. You guys are doing a great job with him. She showed us a folder of papers and that was it! He loves art, writing, technology, music and P.E.

The only thing that stood out was a self evaluation they did. They colored things yellow if they felt they did good with the topic, orange if they were just ok with it and red if they need to work on it a lot. The thing he colored red was listening. His teacher said, "He listens really well in class!"  I think Mica gets so involved in things that when he's told to do other things, he has trouble changing his mindset. I think that's pretty normal for any boy his age.

Mica also got a yellow stripe on his belt for jiu jitsu. They do stripes before changing the color of their belt. His Sensei also started handing out stripes for good behavior type things the kids do. A few weeks ago Mica got one that says, "Good Discipline". This week he got one for, "Good Form". His Sensei doesn't pass the word stripes out often, so it's great that he got these!

Turkey Shirts

My sister Terra and I made turkey shirts for our little turkey children last Sunday.

I bought the shirts and felt. I wanted to make monster shirts, but here it is almost Halloween and they never got made. They still could have worn monster shirts, but the boys wanted turkeys instead.

Our little nephew Emerson (cousin to the boys) is getting a light dose of chemo for 2 tumors he has on his kidneys. He has Trisomy 18. He is such a little cuddly child! I feel for him! I planned different crafts for the 4 and 7 year olds (my boys and a few of my other nephews, Emerson's brothers) to keep us busy. Emerson was supposed to start chemo in the middle of October, but the date was set back because he got a really bad virus. He starts chemo really soon now.

Turkey shirts is what we made. I have other crafts lined up for next month; if needed.

Here's how they turned out:

I came up with the idea (minus the hat - Mica wanted a pilgrim hat to be on the turkeys). I worked on cutting the felt and my sister sewed. I can't sew with a machine. I just never really learned how to thread the machine. My sister can sew anything. All my sewing is done by hand. It's probably way harder and more time consuming to do, but it's what I know how to do.

My sister came up with an idea for a camping scene t-shirt. We went back to the store and bought blue shirts, cut brown sticks out, cream marshmallows and fires for underneath. The fires are so fun! There is a blue outer felt flame, then red, orange and yellow one for the center. We're not done with those yet.

My sister found a way to put the fire felt and the turkey tie over a long sleeve romper for little Emerson that has an NG feeding tube. She cut out little holes for the tube to connect. That will make feeding him so much easier!

Funnies

Mica was watching The Brady Bunch, while I was outside with Isaak taking care of leaves.

When I got inside I said, "So Mica are you still watching The Brady Bunch

Mica said, "No. Some show for old people is on."

I said, "How do you know it's for old people?"

Mica said, "It's in black and white."

Now that Mica knows how to read, he picks up on things he didn't notice before.

We go out to eat some times. Just not a lot.

Mica said while I was driving, "Mom why don't we have Godfather's Pizza?"

I said, "I don't know. Maybe sometime we should. It's kind of greasy though."

Mica said, "I want some so bad!"

I thought that was the end of our conversation.

Later down the street we pass a Sonic.

Mica said, "I really want Sonic! We really  need to go there sometime!"

I said, "Sure sometime."

The drawback of Mica learning to read.

WW: Robots {Linky}

They had a display of robots at Strategic Air and Space Museum this weekend. I of course wanted to get pictures of my boys with them. One of them ran off, so I didn't get his picture. The other one stayed and even took a shot of me.

I should have used flash. Mica's low in contrast.

Did you ever see the movie Robots? It's such a good movie!

The Art of the Catapult

At the Celebration of Mind Mica took his own version of notes during William Gurstelle's talk on The Art of the Catapult. For only being 7 years old, I thought it was cool he was listening.
