Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

I started doing what I call Sing, Sing a Song Saturday.  I'm going to post one song on Saturdays that the boys or I like.

The song may be part of a movie, a kid's video or just a song we like. I'll try and include why we like it and/or the history of the song/singer.

I wanted to mention that I don't always listen to music "out of the box", so to speak. I however like to try new foods, try give different art forms a chance, and with music I like hear different things. Some weeks are easy to find a new singer/music group, while other weeks are harder. In reality I listen to old bands/singers just as much as new ones. Old bands/singers are like having an old favorite sweater. I just love it too much to get rid of it. It's a classic that still fits.

This week I wanted to try and find an Irish band/singer I've never heard of before. The trouble was, is that I didn't know of any newer groups/singers. I had Daddy write some names down, I listened to them, but to tell the truth they didn't sit with me. We all have different tastes. He's into much harder stuff than I am.

I did find an Irish singer that was in the side bar of YouTube. His name is: James Vincent McMorrow. His voice reminds me of Cat Stevens. Maybe I'll feature Cat Stevens next week. I heard he's writing and singing again; under a different name.

Who is James Vincent McMorrow? He lives in an isolated house by the sea, his last album is a completely self recorded and played affair, filled with vivid stories, all the while retaining the environment and sentiment in which they were formed.

Feeling Lucky?

Isaak over the phone: Mom I'm so lucky!
Me: Why are you so lucky?
Isaak: Well I'm lucky that you made cupcakes with me for my preschool, I'm lucky that I got a cupcake last night and one today, and I'm lucky that I got to keep two lucky clovers from the cupcakes! I'm just a lucky boy!
Me: Isaak I'm glad you are having a good day! Mom's going to go back to work now. You just keep on being lucky, ok?
Isaak: Ok Mom. I love you! Bye."

Are You Making Anything For St. Patty's Day?

Daddy usually makes corn beef and cabbage. Normally I don't make anything. This year however I decided to make cupcakes.

I won a McCormick's package from A Nut in a Nutshell last year. It came after the holiday last year. I set the package aside knowing that I'd make cupcakes this year with it.

You can see how I made them on: Cookie Art.

I'm so glad Isaak got better! Last night I gave him a bath and we decorated cupcakes afterwards. I realize this is probably backwards order. I just wanted to get bath time over with. Then he took some Pot O' Gold Cupcakes to preschool today, while I took some to work.

And the Doctor Said,

"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

Truthfully Isaak's got sick yesterday with hives (which ended up being all over, and looked like the picture below), then it was followed up with some kind of stomach virus.

It didn't last too long, but with the mixture of all that I called the doctor.

Earlier this morning he looked so sick! He was curled up in a ball, and practically crying.

My guess was that he got some kind of virus, which caused both the hives and stomach flu. Kid's bodies act so different from adults. Kids can get hives from allergies to food, medicine, soaps, or lotions, from viruses, and from heat.

He ate nothing out of the normal. That's why I thought he had a virus.

It took until 10 AM for the doctors office to get back to me. When the nurse called she took the information I had already told them on the answering machine. I felt it was like a Déjà vu moment. Then the nurse was going to talk to the doc, and get back to me. By then Isaak was all better! He went from having cramps and crying to jumping and laughing.

The doctor really said, "It sounds just like a virus. Keep him on the B.R.A.T. diet: Banana, Rice, Applesauce and Toast/Tea with probiotics in the mix. If he starts getting really thirsty give him Gatorade. Give him Benadryl if his hives get worse, or come back. Call back if he spikes a fever, or gets worse."

All that I was doing anyhow. Except I gave him Jello juice instead of Gatorade.

He's one happy camper now.

Sicky

This is what Isaak looks like today:

He had a rough night. His tummy ached! He's cuddled up in a blanket my Grandma made, his Great Grandma Kent. He watched Elmo and then Curious George. Mica had to put up with Elmo before school. At first Mica was like, "I don't want to watch this baby show!" Then he was laughing at everything. It was Elmo's Potty Time, which is pretty funny to watch as you age.

On a good note: Isaak's hives were practically gone this morning. *See previous post about that one.

I'm assuming what Isaak has is a viral infection of some kind vs. being allergic to some food. He didn't eat anything out of the norm. He's never had issues with food, except Ranch dressing. When that hits his face, he gets a rash on his skin. I've never had problems with Newman's Own, so I try and get that brand.

I've been giving him a little food here, and a little food there. He wanted juice, but I said, "No way!" to that one.

I put in a call to the doctor's office. They happened to have a staff meeting this morning, and opened up a 1/2 hour later. No call back yet. Sometimes it takes awhile. I'm sure they are swamped even more so, since they opened up late.

Things I wish I had today: Blank shirts. I'm so missing the Hobby Lobby that closed by me! I also wanted to make St. Patty's Cupcakes. I have no cake mix. It looks like I may be trying to make cake from scratch. These are just things to fill my day. Selfish wants for a day off. There's no way I'm leaving with sicky.

Hives

Isaak was at my parent's house today. Mica was at school, and then did Jump Rope for the Heart. I went to pick up Isaak and Daddy went to pick up Mica. We took them both over to Aunt Angela's, so we could go out for food and drinks.

Someone Daddy works with, has a client that offered to pay for all our stuff.

Daddy said, "You should get a Margarita. You haven't drank anything like that in a long time." So I got one.

Source
When the drink was mostly gone Daddy looked at me and said, "Your face has bumps all over it!" I had hives. No more of that for me!

Not even 2 minutes after Daddy told me I had hives, my cell phone started ringing. It was Grandma telling me, "I forgot to tell you that Isaak's had hives on his face all afternoon." I'm thinking, What the heck?

15 minutes later my hives went away.

When we went to pick up Isaak he sure did hives on his face. When he got his pjs on he had hives on his arms, legs and tummy to. :(

We gave him some allergy medicine and put him to bed.

He was complaining about a tummy ache as well. I'm just wondering if he has a viral infection of some kind? He was acting a little off to.

We'll see how he looks in the morning.

The Headband That Made Him Cry

This story makes me laugh every time I think about it. Is it sad that I want to laugh at something my child was crying over?

Mica had last Thursday and Friday off for conferences. Then on Monday he had a snow day, so another day off of school. His Tuesday this week was like a Monday.  On top of that, throw in Day Light Savings time. The poor little guy was tired at the end of Tuesday.

We went to the Y last night. We wanted to go to Family Fitness because we missed last week. That's something we all enjoy. The boys run off energy.

Green headbands were being passed out. There were two different types. This is the one that was passed out on our side of the circle:

Mica for some reason was freaking out about not wanting to wear this "Girly" headband. He wanted to switch with someone; to get the other kind. I looked around, and everyone already had them on their heads. I said, "Sorry Mica you have to wear that one." He walked up and nearly snagged one off a little kid's head. Daddy snapped at him. Mica started crying. Daddy's like, "You don't just take things! What's the big deal? I have it on my head! Isaak has it on his head!"

I looked at Daddy and Isaak and thought, They do look girly with them on.  I didn't dare say anything. I wanted to laugh, while Daddy was serious, and Mica was crying. Mica tossed his headband on the ground and proceeded to pout. I got to wear two of them.

The lady in charge was nice enough to buy them. I was going to wear them.

Deep Thinker

Last week Mica was asking about gravity. He just couldn't understand why we don't walk sideways. Looking at the globe, it's only logical to our 7 year old that we'd walk along it and everyone would be sideways.

This week he came in our room and said, "I'm deeply concerned about the ice melting too fast in Antarctica! Where will the penguins live if all the ice caps melt?"

Daddy told him, "Yes ice is melting, but it's no where near being all gone."

Here's a penguin that Mica made around Christmas time.  They studied different types of penguins in school.
It reads:

Penguins,
Penguins,
Penguins
Black White Furry
Penguins,
Penguins,
Penguins
Emperor Little Blue
Macaroni
They toboggan to get
Out of the water.

He's a deep thinker. I see a lot of conversations in our future.

WW: Moustache Bash {Linky}

Isaak and his cousin Evan are going to both have a birthday party soon. Evan will be turning 8 and Isaak will be turning 5. We decided that we're going to give them a moustache bash.

We got some moustache party stuff. Then I made these invites. They are not done yet! I still have to add when, where and I'm not married to the typeface yet. I tried more of a gangster typeface, but it was too strong.

Cousin Evan has a sweep broom mustache and Isaak has a Salvador Dali moustache.

Captain Underpants Really?

If you haven't been familiar with Captain Underpants here he is:

I have a love/dislike relationship with this super hero. I love that he got Mica into reading bigger books! I dislike that they spell things different, and have slang in the book. Our future generation gets enough silly abbreviations from texting. Like OMG!

Mica looks over at me last night and says, "Mom I could have a Captain Underpants party for my birthday? Wouldn't that be cool? I could wear my underwear over my pants, and have a super hero cape on."

I said, "Let's stick with Superman. If you want we could have a submarine party. You want to invent a new one anyway."

Mica, "Captain Underpants is better!"

I said, "Mica wearing your underwear outside your clothes might be embarrassing."

I do have to admit that making a cake with that strange super hero would be fun. Maybe we could do that for the family party. At least they know my humor. They know my children were bound to be strange like me. It's not like Mica will be running around with only underwear. It would be on the outside of his pants. We'd all get a good laugh. I could make a banner of whitey tighties. Family brace yourselves in August!

What Do You Get Five Year Olds That Barely Play With Toys?

Isaak's about to turn 5 in May. I sometimes struggle with what to get this kid that loves to play with boxes and paper, trains, and not too many other toys. His Cousin Elijah's birthday is really soon (this month), and he has just about anything he needs as well.

This is what I got for both boys (the green and red dragon wings) from Magic Cabin:

Aren't those wings fun? I've seen fairy and butterfly wings for girls, but this is the first time I've seen wings for boys. The boys still love to play dress-up. Mica is growing out of most of it. He still dresses up in his Batman costume though. Isaak is always dressing up in his cape and Spider-Man costume. I know he'll love these dragon wings!

I also got Isaak and Elijah one of these clubhouse t-shirts from Gymboree. They were $20 marked down to $10. The door in the clubhouse opens up and has a puppy inside. There's a little baseball in the wagon. Elijah loves baseball and puppies. Isaak loves puppies.

Other things I'm thinking of getting Isaak:

This $50 Railroad Coveralls by Knuckleheads. It's marked down to $25 at Boy's Store. Then I found a $4 off discount code, which practically paid for shipping. Since he loves to dress up; I can see him loving this. Plus I showed it to him online and asked him if he wanted it? His eyes were wide and he was shaking his head yes. I never told him I got it.

I never gave Isaak this Scratch set from Melissa and Doug at Christmas time; I got for posting for them. We held it back for his birthday. The boys were already getting a lot of stuff for Christmas.

Isaak wants a frog, so I'll probably get him tiny frog that swims around like a fish. We'll see on that one. The Easter Bunny likes frogs and fish to.

GlassesUSA.com with a Discount Code For You to Use!

Our family: Daddy, Mica, Isaak and I are really lucky that we have never had to wear glasses.

My mom has had them since she was 2 years old. My dad had to get glasses as he aged. It is in our genes to have glasses.

I'm sure as I age I'll have to get some. When the time comes I want to get eyeglasses that are fashionable and not have to spend an arm and a leg for them

If it were up to Mica, he would get glasses now! He so wants glasses like the College Black ones featured below. Then he would look like Clark Kent. Superman is his favorite super hero!

GlassesUSA.com has many stylish options:

College Black - $125 $78
They also have a GlassesUSA.com Try-It! Virtual mirror, try it on! Here I am in glasses:

Take a look at their Virtual Mirror Feature yourself:

It's a great thing they have the Virtual mirror because I thought I would look the best with brown frames. My hair is brown/grey. The brown glasses looked silly on me. They sure do have a lot of selection in their glasses frames.

I love how their prices are marked down! They show you what the original prices are and what each pair of glasses are marked down to. 60% of all adults wear eyeglasses. Many are paying too much for eyewear.

They have a whole selection for women, men, bifocals, trifocals and prescription eyeglasses for sunglasses.

GlassesUSA.com has a wonderful shipping section. It tells you how long it will take for your glasses to be made, and how long it will take to ship to you. They also have a section for customer service. I love that their phone number is on the top of their website to help with orders.
