Sing, Sing a Song Saturday

Sing, Sing a Song Saturday is all about me discovering something that is different to post. I don't want to post things that you and I have more than likely heard before. I want to find something different. It could be from another country, someone singing from the streets of NY, and more.

This week I found a new band that is French. I like listening to bands from other cultures. The band is La rue Kétanou. Have you heard of them?

They mix elements of reggae, and a bohemian style of life. Their work is theatrical. They sing songs that have poetry and humor. The band includes 3 people from Paris.

Their name translates as ‘The street which belongs to us’.

The first album of La Rue Kétanou, En attendant les caravanes (Waiting for the caravans) was finally produced in 2001. After some time doing tours throughout France, the group completed a second album Y’a des cigales dans la fourmilière (Cicadas in the ant-hill) in 2002. In 2004, they released a live album Ouvert à double tour.

Random Tid Bits

  1. I'm happy to say that I love doing dishes, and laundry. Odd I know! When our water was turned off I hated using paper plates. I don't like wasting things! We had dishes covering the counter. I had two baskets full of laundry. Last night I did the dishes, and separated out the laundry. It felt good knowing that I could take care of them.

  2. Giving is a wonderful thing! My first year students all got brand new MacBooks. I didn't buy them. I got to help hand them out. It's so fun seeing the look on people's face when they get something they've wanted for awhile!

  3. I have one student that whines as much as Isaak does. I'm not joking. It's really sad when a college student whines as much as a 5 year old does. She's either whining because she doesn't get how to do something, whines because she's not as good as other students in the class, or whines because she hasn't gotten an award for a competition that they students enter every year. I feel for her, otherwise she wouldn't come to me to whine. At the same time I tell her, "If this stuff bothers you do something about it." Then her eyes fill up with tears. I just wish you could install confidence in some people. Other students are too conceited. Those students I wish I could knock down a notch.

  4. Another horrible thing happened this week. A little 5 year old girl named Payton was sitting eating breakfast with her mom and brother. A bullet went into their home, hit the girl and killed her. She's the same age as Isaak. The brother that was at the table is only 4 years old. No one knows who fired the shots. I'm just heart broken for this family! The area they lived in is the rough part of town. It doesn't matter. No one should worry about eating breakfast, and have a bullet enter their home! The family is trying to celebrate her life instead of grieve over it. They are strong people. Their only hope is that gun violence stops!

  5. To end on a happy note Isaak created a fun drawing I want to share. He spelled everything out himself.

I'm sooo Sleepish

Maybe it's because I fasted all day yesterday, maybe it's because it's the first week back for my students, maybe it's because every night this week has been go, go, go, maybe it's because we still do not have a working toilet, and I had to go to a gas station at 2:30 AM to go potty, or maybe it's because I can hear the wind howling through thick walls (we're under a wind advisory).

Maybe it's all the above.

It's crazy though, I'm not doing the work my husband is, and I'm tired. I feel like I don't have a right to say, "I'm tired!" I've been dealing with the kiddos in the evening though. Last night I took Mica to Jiu-Jitsu. I can't wait until they split the class up! They are doing that next month, but have talked about it for a year I think. The seats for parents are limited, and there is an obvious difference in their skills. See all the kids without their gi? They are all new. At the Y I helped Isaak take a shower, took a shower myself, and had Mica take a shower after he was done with Jiu-Jitsu. At that point we still didn't have running water at home. Now we have running water, but still no toilet. We have a plywood floor now, and a start of vinyl floor. I had to go back to where we got the flooring because one box we had was damaged.

This was going to be my blogging day, but somehow all I've manage to do was stare at a screen all afternoon. I can't recall much of what I've done past lunch.

All morning I looked up topics for the students to give speeches on. Sounds easy enough. My co-worker that is giving an assignment wanted a list of different contemporary designers for the students to look up. Coming up with the first 20 were easy. I spent the rest of the morning trying to get the rest to equal 31. I need ones that are active, and had enough information for the students to research. The teacher I did the favor for has proofread all my handouts, so I owed her one.

What about you? Are you sleepish today?

Today I'm Fasting

I have to say that fasting is not something I'm good at.

It's lunch time, and I've been yawning for the last two hours. Who knew not eating would make you sleepish? I need food fuel! I'm loopy. I pretty much feel like my brain is not attached to me. A drunken state would be better than how I feel right now.

I've heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I believe it!

Why am I fasting? I have a doctor's appointment. I know they'll check my cholesterol. They always ask, "Have you been fasting?" They can't get good results if I haven't been.

I make all my appointments at the end of the day, so I don't miss class. Big mistake here. This would have been one appointment that would have been better first thing in the morning. Appointments for this doctor are made a year in advance. Crazy if you ask me.

Why I have to go in right after the holidays to check my cholesterol just is horrible!

Have you ever had to fast? How did you do?

Toilet Issues

Daddy noticed the toilet was leaking from a pipe downstairs. We bought a new toilet. He was going to install it, and the floor looked like this underneath.

Last night we went to pick out new flooring. Some of the flooring we up the wall, so he ripped that out, and we got new wood molding.

In the mean time we are without water.

The good things are that he doesn't have to replace the sub floor, and that he caught it early enough, so it wasn't worse.

Last night Daddy said: "I'm going to leave the hallway light on."

I said: "That's good. We don't want the boys tripping over a toilet." Sadly it's the truth.

WW: Necklace {Linky}

I asked, and got a necklace from Novica.

It came a little after Christmas, but it was well worth the wait!

I just love how they package things, and put the personal touch with their artist made things.

It came in this cute bag.

Close Up

It reminds me of rock candy with all different colors.

This is the postcard that came with it.

This is not a paid review. It's a gift I received.

Monster Jam Review

To start the New Year off right, we got tickets to go to Monster Jam! I don't think our boys knew what to expect.

A couple things you need to know before going to the show:

  1. Bundle up. It's cold. They open the garages to let trucks in. Trucks that help the monster trucks. Sometimes one of them tips over. Other trucks get in, help out and leave. They sure do move fast.

  2. Stock up on ear plugs. I say this because it gets loud.

We loved the show. It wasn't something I normally would go to. That makes so great in my mind that I went. I love branching out!

The boys liked the Iron Man truck the best, Isaak's second love was Monster Mutt Dalmatian, Daddy liked El Toro Loco, and I liked the Zombie. We were all routing for our truck.

Thunder

Monster Mutt Dalmatian
It was pretty funny seeing a tail and ears on a monster truck.

Zombie
They played Michael Jackson's Thriller song when Zombie came out to play.

Get Er' Done
If you like the redneck Larry the Cable Guy, you'll enjoy this truck.

My Boy's Favorite: Iron Man!

Part of the show that was so fun is when they had a Smart car loaded up with fire on the back of it. It was super cool to watch. I didn't get very good pictures of that because it was dark, and fast.

If you get to the show early like we did, we watched dirt bikers ride. It was pretty entertaining. They come out again during the intermission.

I'm so glad we went! The boys are still talking about it.

Have you ever been to a show like this?

Every day Monster Truck has a deal on their site. You can check out their daily deals here.

Muffin Cups

I saw pinned on Pinterest ham and egg muffin cups. I attempted to make some.

They turned out tasting good, but the tips of the ham got burnt. I don't know how to fix that. Cover them in foil maybe?

I didn't measure anything. I imagine the measurements would change with how many eggs you are going to use anyway. I just mixed egg, chopped green onion, dried mustard, a little bit of mozzarella cheese, and pepper. Then I sprayed the cups with Olive Oil spray, laid a single slice of ham in each one and poured the egg mixture in that.

I also made traditional muffins using substitutes for all purpose flour. I used brown rice flour and coconut flour instead. Then added June Berries, which can replace Blue Berries.

It turned out to be a pretty good breakfast, minus the burnt part on the ham.
