A Hairline Scrape

Isaak had a mishap at recess last week. He slipped, and fell. Off to the nurses office he went.

She put gauze and medical tape all down half of his back.

It took me awhile to convince him that the bandage needed to come off. I wanted to see why he had this on his back. Every time I tried to pull a little tape off he cried. I wet a washcloth to try and loosen the tape. That didn't work. I tried to sprinkle baby powder on the tape that had come up already, that didn't work.

I told him to soak in a bath, and it eventually came off. Where the tape was, his skin is all red and welted. The medical tape was way worse on his skin then the hairline scrape.

I always say, If it's not bleeding, leave it alone.

It's as if the school nurse wanted something to do.

I agree, unless it's bleeding, no need for a bandage. I would have done what you did and put mine in the water to get it off - smart thinking.

Awe, hope he's okay. If they felt the need to cover, why not wrap it instead of tape? Broxton. Was wrapped at the dr once and he thought it was so super cool. Lol.

I hate that darn tape they use! It always leaves my skin worse than the injury. Good thinking on soaking it in water. I usually just tear mine right off.

Poor Isaak, that tape is the worst! I've found that soaking it with baby oil before soaking in a hot bath works well in getting it off, it seems to help break down the adhesive.

Perhaps the bandage was used because of school policies regarding body fluids?

Could be Jacqueline, but it seriously was a hairline of a scratch. It didn't look like it was bleeding at all.

Yikes it's good you got it off too.. I find if you leave it on too long it causes a rash too. Hope there's no internal injury!

I'm glad he didn't get really hurt. Life is full of dings and scrapes.

Glad he wasn't actually hurt bad! I'd freak out if my kiddo came home with THAT much bandaging on her.

By the way, I feel the same. If a bone's not protruding or the wound's not gushing blood - suck it up. It's worked so far. Little girl is tough :)

Aww I'm glad he was okay! Gauze coming off hurts, silly that she put so much on for little reason.

I hate that dang tape. I swear people have allergies to it
