Billie Jean

Mica said, "Someone from my class is singing Erma Jean for the talent show at school."

In some weird way I knew what he was talking about, but we all asked, "What?" anyway.

Mica said, "You know Michael Jackson's song Erma Jean."

Dad and I exchanged glances and both said, "You mean Billie Jean!"

Isaak said, "I thought it was Nipple Bean."

We all could not stop laughing. We have a strange family!

The first moonwalk ever performed on stage.

I told my co-workers that story. One of them said, "That's the strangest song. I never thought anyone could make a song about a paternity test."

I never knew the song was about a paternity test. I always assumed it was just about a girl that liked him. I never read more into it then that.

Of course I had to look up what the song was about after that.

Michael Jackson: "Billie Jean is kind of anonymous. It represents a lot of girls. They used to call them groupies in the '60s."

He added: "They would hang around backstage doors, and any band that would come to town they would have a relationship with, and I think I wrote this out of experience with my brothers when I was little. There were a lot of Billie Jeans out there. Every girl claimed that their son was related to one of my brothers."

I never understood the song. It's like a Maury episode. "I ain't the daddy", but then the lyrics go on to talk about how the kid had eyes just like him. Is it, or isn't it? I do like the song though.

I had no idea that's what the song meant. And a kid is singing it at an elementary school talent show? I wonder if the kid's parents know what the song is about.

I heard it so many times but never looked deeper into its meaning too. What an interesting background!

OMG that is hilarious! It's funny what we think a singer is singing but in actually it can sometimes be way off. There is a book that shares some of those. It's funny.

I knew about the meaning of the song but never really thought about it. I just liked the beat.

I've had this happen to me - I used to think that Under the Bridge was about being alone and that Born in the USA was very pro-America. For the record, Under the Bridge is about being addicted to needle drugs and Born in the USA is pretty critical of the country :P

I liked that song but never really 'got' what it was entirely about either.
