WW: Man VS Nature {Linky}

A beautiful sculpture that stands for peace, and a car window was slammed on top of it. This had nothing to do with the protests. I took this way before that was happening. In a way I liked the contrast; even though it wasn't supposed to be.

WW: Loose Park {Linky}

We didn't go all over Loose Park. We walked just enough to stretch our legs.

The Park:

At 75-acres, Jacob L. Loose Park is one of Kansas City’s most popular, beautiful and historical. It's known locally as being a major site for the Battle of Westport where Confederate forces were routed by Union forces in the area in which the park is now located. It is estimated that 29,000 people were involved in the battle. The property at that time was owned by William Bent, a man who led wagon trains and traded with the Native Americans.

History:

Seth Ward bought the property in 1871 after William Bent’s death. In 1896 a group of people, many of whom had been members of the golf club near Hyde Park, incorporated the Kansas City Country Club and signed a lease with Seth Ward to use part of his property as a golf course for $1 a year plus taxes. The property included what is now Loose Park and was used as a golf course until 1927. In 1926, Ella Loose bought the property from the Hugh Ward estate (the son of Seth Ward) so that it could be made into a park to honor her husband, Jacob Loose. She gave the property to the city in 1927. Jacob Loose founded the Loose-Wiles Biscuit Company, which produced Sunshine Biscuits and other products. He passed away in 1923.

We Love the Cactus Garden!

Kansas City, Missouri is only 2 1/2 hours from Omaha, Nebraska where we live. It's a zone hotter. Some things we can grow that they have, while other things we can't.

Do you have a favorite park where you live?

WW: Mahoney State Park {Linky}

I love going to Eugene T. Mahoney State Park AKA Mahoney State Park. I wish we had time to go there more. This year our once a year family reunion on my Mom's side was held there. We went hiking before the reunion.

WW: Memorial Day {Linky}

We have a park here in Omaha, Nebraska called Memorial Park. Naturally on Memorial Day there's a ceremony that goes on every year.

We haven't been to the event in a few years. It just so happens that we usually have a family gathering during that day, but didn't this year.

On our way there my husband spotted a kite in the trees. Can you see it?

Someone lost a lion kite.

Here's a detail of a few trees we passed by:

A little mossy spot in a tree. I pictured fairies to live inside it.

My husband the tree hugger.

We had to wait awhile for speeches to begin. We brought a few blankets, and played a Spanish game on an American holiday.

The flag was pretty flying above us.

A jet flew by. Parachuter's jumped in honor of our Veterans.

Police officers and Firefighters were there in honor of our Veterans to.

We listened to a lot of speeches that day. I sent my husband away to go play with the kids. It was just too long for them to sit still. They stayed for most of it though.

While other parents pushed their kids on the swings, my husband swung with them.

I was thankful for men and women that died protecting our country. I was also thankful for family.

Do you do anything special for Memorial Day?
