Terrarium Humidifier Review

I'm a bit terrarium obsessed.

Possibly because my sister's name Terra is in terrarium, but more likely because they are so dang cute! I like little mushrooms, flowers, moss and animals.

Ohderii makes a humidifier | terrarium that is adorable!

I like that it had two functions.

Humidifier: The top gets filled up with water and/or essential oils to steam. The container is perfect, for just the right amount of water. I find with most steamers I don't use the full amount of water, and end up having to get rid of it. I don't want to turn on the steam later on, and have mold going up in the air. With this one I don't have to worry about all that.

Having asthma and a nose unlike others it's important I keep moisture in the air.

The steamer also comes with an extra filter.

Terrarium: The bottom is an enchanting scene. It has flowers, plants, moss, a mushroom and a bunny.

Colors:

You can get the top in pink or blue.

It changes colors. The first time I used it, it changed through seven colors. The second time I used it, it didn't light up. I don't know if it broke, or if I need to press somewhere to get the colors to start lighting up. Regardless it's still wonderful to look at.

USB Powered:

It has a USB plug. I kind of wish it was powered by a regular cord. I had it plugged into my laptop to run. I got up, not thinking, and it spilled all over. Thankfully not on my laptop. I'm just not used to USB powered things except for devices like phones, computers, kindles, and so on.

Where to Get This:

You can get this at amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0792WDDX5, for $15.28 on Prime.

With your decor do you like modern or cute? I have both. I'm eclectic.

Disclaimer: I got this product for free, or a big discount to help with this review. The company did not tell me what to write in the review. I only review things I find my family, friends or readers will find helpful.

#DIY Faux Terrarium

If you remember I started to make a Faux Terrarium a few weeks ago:

I dug up some dirt, and microwaved it. I learned that microwaving anything in nature for 2 min. kills the living things in it. Not that I like to kill nature, it's just that this is going in my house.

I know I left you hanging with the end result.

I made faux mushrooms out of Sculpey. If you are unfamilar with Sculpey it's a clay that can be baked in your oven to harden. It turns into a hard plastic. You can paint on it with oils, or acrylics. They do have colored Sculpey to.

I put paper clips in the faux mushrooms, while I made them. Why? Because the paper clips would A) Help support them. B) Give me something to hold onto while I painted them. C) When the mushrooms were all said and done, I could cut off the ends, to give me something to stick in the sand and dirt.

I painted them with acrylics. I had them done for awhile, but it's been so rainy here. When it's not raining, it's muggy. I took everything outside to shoot once, and the glass on the Terrarium, and on the lens of my camera kept fogging up.

Here's the end result:

Why a faux terrarium?

I wanted something fun in my hallway. I've had a thing for terrariums lately. There is no light there, and I needed something that had a lid. I want to be able to dust it. Making a fake one just seemed like the right choice for this spot.

The Start of a Faux Terrarium

I have a space in my hallway that needs something. I love terrariums, so I wanted to make one for that space. The trouble is, is there's no light in that space.

I set out to make a faux terrarium. I'm an artist I can fake it, right?

I found a rubber moss online:

Source - On sale for $9.99
It seriously looks like real moss. Doesn't it?

I found out the place to go for a cool glass container is Michaels.

I wanted to make it look as real as possible. Here's the order for a typical terrarium:

Gravel
Sand
charcoal or dirt
moss

I washed the gravel, and sand. Then strained it.

I dug up some dirt, and microwaved it. I learned that microwaving anything in nature for 2 min. kills the living things in it. Not that I like to kill nature, it's just that this is going in my house.

The moss looks pretty real.

I have a lid, so I don't have dust getting inside the faux terrarium.

It's not done. I'm now going to make mini red and white mushrooms. 4 of them to be exact. 1 big one, 2 medium sized ones, and 1 baby one. I'm making them out of Sculpey, which is a clay that can be baked in your home. Then I'll paint them with acrylics.

There will be a follow up post once the mushrooms are made.

One more thing: I was featured on Creative Mondays. Check it out if you have the time. It's my Apple Sandwich post that made it in.
