Science Project

Mica and Isaak have a Science Fair coming right up! I helped Isaak, and Daddy helped Mica.

I kind of wish Isaak picked something easier to do completely on his own. What he picked is easy, it's just that I think he may need a little help on the day of the Science Fair.

First I helped him gather the materials.

Vinegar, Baking Soda, an Empty water or Soda Bottle, a Balloon, and 2 Funnels.

He poured vinegar 1/3 of the way full.

He prefilled up 4 of them for the day of the Science Fair. Then he can do it 4 times for the judges.

Then he used the other funnel for the dry ingredients. He filled a balloon 1/2 way with Baking Soda.

He did 4 of these ahead of time to. I tied the balloons with twisty ties, so baking soda wouldn't fall all over the box.

Then he put the balloon on the bottle.

He will need help holding the bottle, while he puts the balloon on it.

He lifted the balloon up, and let the Baking Soda drop into the bottle. The balloon filled up with gas.

He loved the experiment. I'm just worried about him being able to get the balloon on the bottle, and explaining it. He wrote out the materials he used, and how baking soda + vinegar = gas inside the balloon. You know how 5 year olds are though. He could do great, or panic and forget how to explain his science project.

Funny of the Day

I've been trying to give Isaak more direction in doing thing. He's the type of kid that either destroys things to make things, or says, "I'm bored!"

I now have a drawer in our coffee table that is a collection of activity books. In the past he's never wanted to do these. One night he picked a sticker book that had math problems with them. He enjoyed it, but must have gotten bored in between.

I found about 5 pencils with small water balloons attached to them.

All I could think of is, "He's practicing for the future." One thing is for sure, that pencil is staying safe.

It gave me a good laugh!

Blowing Balloons

We put money in balloons for my oldest nephew for his birthday present. The boys were amazed that the money would fit in the balloons. Mica blew up a lot of them. I tied them. Isaak put them in the gift bag. He said at the end, "I almost died tonight! Blowing up those balloons made me loose my breath."

The next day Daddy taught Isaak how to blow up a balloon. He blew one up, and hasn't been able to blow another since then.

Mica has been blowing them up all weekend. Then he's been letting them go. Both boys giggle at the farting sound.

Here's Mica trying to teach Isaak to blow one up:

Then Isaak wanted me to take a photo of him blowing up a balloon that was already blown up. Silly boy!

Here's my nephew that got the package of balloons with money inside. He didn't sit on them to pop them. Instead he popped them all with a knife.

Be Creative Bloggers

There is this site called Draw a Stickman. You draw a stick character and go through a few other steps to draw things. It's a fun animation. The boys loved watching their stickmen walk, swim, fight off a dragon and free themselves of being eaten by sharks. Even Isaak drew his version of a stickman. It was a scribble drawing and he still moved.

Anyone can have fun with this site. You don't need an account and you do not need to be artistic.

Hitting a Balloon into His Head

  • Isaak loved playing with Great Aunt Becky. Grandma and Grandpa Spiehs got Mica a balloon.
  • Aunt Becky kept bopping Isaak in the head with it. Isaak kept saying, "Again!"
  • Aunt Becky said, "This is what we should of done to your mom when she was your age." Isaak reminds her of me when I was two years old.
  • The story goes, I never smiled to anyone, but my own inner family. I'd just stare at people. Becky thinks that a balloon bopped in my head a few times would of made me smile like you see Isaak doing below. :)
  • All was good until Evan came up, hit the balloon too hard and busted it. Typical for boys. Mica did the same thing to Elijah's balloon.
