- My boss was on The Price is Right. He had to keep it under wrap before it aired. When he was going to be on he prerecorded it, and asked all our classes to come watch it. I kind of rolled my eyes inside my head. It's close to midterm time here. Everyone is pretty busy. He left it optional.
It's much different watching that show when you know someone that's on it. It's really different watching it when you know they didn't want to be on it in the first place, and their wife and kids were so excited to be on it. It's really amusing to know that their wife made custom Nebraska shirts for the show; that Drew Carry happened to notice. You can imagine my boss was totally shocked when he was called up. I was LMAO. He didn't know that the wheel could only be spun twice. He's at work all the time; he hardly watches the show.Source
In the end he won a 3D flat screen TV, and a new washer and dryer.
If you could automatically be on a game show, which one would you pick? - I had a huge critique session this week on a big project that the students were working on. One of our top students didn't do well with this project. Let's just say that she was livid that she got a C. She came up to the critique saying, "I just didn't like the way this turned out. I wasn't very fond of this technique." I explained what she could do to make it better. When she saw her grade she went off. I'm thinking, You don't like this assignment, BUT you want a good grade? I said, "Well you have a week to apply the changes I suggested to make your grade better." She said, "I just don't think you have a good reason to give me a C." I said, "It's interesting that you said that because I had 3 teachers look at these projects, and we all agreed on the grades. I'm sorry you feel that way." Off she went. Many students come from high schools where they were the BEST artist there, and had all the time they wanted on projects. They don't have that here. We have tight deadlines, and most everyone was the best artist in their high school class. The best are up against another best.
I'm sure things like critiquing will get better. They always seem to. I teach 2 first year classes. The male teachers here teach 2nd year classes. They have no idea what it's like to train them with critiquing, and not always getting A's. Let's put it this way: I'm not here to coddle them. I'm not here to trash them. I'm here to make them employable, and I want them to get better. In the graphic design industry you have to have a backbone, and stand out among others to get a job.
- Leaves are already all over my driveway. It rained though. They are a sloppy mess. I'm not going to be able to suck them up any time soon.
- Part of me loves fall. I like Halloween, and the holidays that are in winter. I just dislike that everything is dark early. The fact that all the leaves have lost their leaves, the grass is brown, and flowers are gone kind of reminds me of death. Spring and summer are alive, and happier.
What season do you like best? - The boys had class pictures the other day. Mica wanted to wear his suit jacket, and Isaak wanted to wear a tie. Daddy didn't want them to wear either. I didn't really care. In the end Daddy said, "You know what? We're paying for the pictures. Last year you wore your suit jacket. This year you are wearing nice button down shirts." Daddy won that one.

Random Tid Bits
- I've defriened 1 person on FB. Every time I went on, they messaged me to chat. It was a male. He kept tagging me in his photos. I asked him to stop all the above, and he wouldn't. I blocked him. At my age I didn't think I'd be stalked. I felt violated. I'm glad he's gone.
I don't think I've ever flagged a picture or video. I watched one last weekend that was child abuse. I didn't flag it because I wanted to show my husband how sick the video was. It was a common acquaintance that posted it. I had commented about how horrible it was that he shared it. He said, "Having Fun With Toddlers". It was men flinging babies around by their arms and legs. Treating them like they are acrobats. Those poor kids probably will grow up with scrambled eggs for brains, and get nursemade elbows. So sick! The guy that shared the video isn't around kids ever. Maybe he lives under a rock, and hasn't watched the news about shaken baby syndrome. I was so bothered by the video. To be honest I didn't think of flagging it at first. When I got back on, the video was gone. A good friend flagged it. It's a great thing she did.
Have you ever defriended someone, or flagged a video? I do it on such a rare occasion that I don't think about it when it needs to be done. Kind of like honking my horn. I just don't do it ever. When I should I forget about it. - I just tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar to treat my blemishes these days. I don't have a lot, or very often, but the ones I have get treated. Well I put apple cider vinegar on a blemish, wasn't paying attention, and kept it on too long. I zapped a zit, and burnt my skin a little too much.
- If all else fails, try and problem solve. I work with some people that solve many other people's problems. I get their frustration. I have to remind them that the printers do say on them, If something is wrong go to so and so. Some people don't even try and solve an issue they are having. If others always do things for you, you rely on them. I think that's what has happened here. As far as I go - I ask for help sometimes. Many problems I fix on my own though.
- The boy's school did a fundraiser right when they started. It was to sell chocolate bars and beef jerky. Maybe I'm a poop head, but I said, "We're not doing this." The schools are trying to promote eating healthy, and then they want to sell crappy things to eat. I'm pretty sure my boys were annoyed with me. They wanted to win those crappy prizes you know. When we go to the Open House on Thursday I'm going to donate some money. I'd rather do that then to load up on crap that I don't want to eat. My Mom AKA Grandma thanked me.
- One day this week I was getting my lunch ready. I peered over and saw Lap Dancers Coffee. I got up closer and saw. Tap Dancers Coffee. If you ever market a product make sure it doesn't say something else from a distance. That line under the logo makes it look like the T could be an L.

Random Tid Bits
- I was a little disappointed once this week. I brought in ice cream to my students. I was going over a logo/packaging change for Gifford's Ice Cream.

When I came back and mentioned my morning to a co-worker, she said that happened to her last year when she brought in Halloween candy. Are kind words, and gratitude slipping through the cracks of future generations? Thankfully my thoughts towards future generations was restored when my 2 sons thanked me for a serving them ice cream after dinner. - We have a wedding coming up. They are registered at a honeymoon place. I can't help but to think that my money is going towards alcohol. They are big drinkers. I guess if that's what they want, that's what they get. I just worry about one of them. My husband's family has alcoholism on his side.
- I have 1 student in my first year class that likes to debate with me during lecture. While I love future thinkers of America, it really throws me off track. Honestly I can not remember what I was even talking about after he chimes in. I was going over the difference between transparent, semi transparent, and opaque. He was trying to tell me that transparent was the same as opaque, which it's not. I told the students that the definition of transparent and semi-transparent can be convoluted, just like many art terms can be. Opaque is where you can't see through an object at all. That one can't be argued. In this class the difference of the terms are:
Transparent - You can see through it totally like glass, clear plastic wrap rolled out, or a bubble.:Source
old school camera film rolled out.Source Source - I went down a pant size. Woo hoo! Actually many of my pants weren't fitting at all. I had to go buy new ones. Now I'm buying smaller shirts. I used to buy XL, and actually got a size medium the other day.
- We're still on our track of watching classics. The boys recently watched The Absent Minded Professor otherwise known as Flubber. We have Old Yeller, and Bednobs and Broomsticks ready to watch. Freaky Friday is still on hold at the library. The boys seem to be enjoying them. Daddy rolled his eyes with The Shaggy Dog and The Absent Minded Professor though. I have to admit they are odd. I like the memory trip though.

Random Tid Bits
- A few months back I mentioned on one of these Random Tid Bits posts that Miss Teen Nebraska had disappeared. Her parents went through Facebook trying to get her back. No one knew if she was a run away, or kidnapped. Once people found out that she was a run away, instead of being happy that she was found, people were going on and on that her title and crown should be taken away. She couldn't go home because she threatened to run away from home again.
- I've been thinking about how we as adults enforce that our children get along with others. "Share honey!" we say. Then it's interesting that as adults we sometimes don't get along. Families break up over something that could have been solved. People fight over different religious, or political beliefs. It's just so sad that we can't share, and get along. Even the words (please, thank you, and you're welcome) that we first teach children to say, are sometimes not said by adults. Do some people forget how to get along? Maybe they just too proud to admit they are wrong. What do you think?
- What sounds annoy you? There's 3 that get on my nerves. A) Dogs barking. We have 2 neighbors that have barking dogs. I just want to go outside, and hear birds chirping. B) Whistling while I'm trying to work. It might just be because I've never been able to whistle myself, or it could be that I'm trying to concentrate, and can't because there's that distraction. C) When Mica gets on a sound effect roll. He doesn't know when to stop. Isaak makes sound effects to, but it's not like Mica.
- Sleep is wonderful! I haven't been sleeping much this week. Daddy has been working a lot. 2 of his co-workers are out of town, his boss hasn't bought supplies to make the job go faster, and his boss miscast some of the work he did. He is also trying to get work done at home, so he can take sculpture molds down to Kansas City to be cast. It's like I'm a single parent. I miss sleep.
- Ending on a happy note: I'm happy because the boys have been so good so far this summer. They really have been.
I was always interested in the case. Something didn't seem right. She volunteered for all kinds of things. Her brother has a rare protein deficiency that she helped raise money for. Why would she just go missing? I'd checked her page once in awhile to see if there was an update.
She had an MRI and they found out that she has a tumor on her brain. Now's the time I want to say to everyone that wanted to take her title away, and made mean comments on Facebook that they really should understand the whole situation before saying crap like that. Tumors on the brain will make people not be themselves. This poor family has one child that can't eat much of anything, without throwing up, and another one that ran away, people thought the worst of them, and now they found out that she has a tumor on her on her brain. I'm sure they are scared about the tumor, yet relived to finally understand why their daughter is acting the way she's been acting.
