WW: Braces {Linky}

The littlest man in our house got braces last Thursday. He had no choice. There was not enough room in his mouth, for his adult teeth.

He had to get some baby teeth out, to make room for big teeth to come in. He had a space maintainer.

This Thursday he got braces.

I had braces, for too long really. I just know because my roots are small. They say if your roots are small you've had them for too long.

I remember the pain. Isaak hasn't complained too much.

He did complain when a ball from Goalball hit his mouth. The poor boy started bleeding. For a moment I thought we'd need to go back to the Orthodontist, but he was ok.

He sure looks like a pre teen with them in!

In case you're wondering he lives in this coat. He has a closest full of shirts, and covers them all up with this coat. Ha!

He is still eating soft food for the most part. I'm sick of oatmeal, applesauce, smoothies, soups, yogurt and so on. I'm not even eating all those things when he eats them. I hope he gets used to them soon enough.

Here he is eating a Goodrich Malt. A few years ago he said, "Can we get those mulches?" I had trouble understanding what he was talking about. When he said, "Goodrich Mulches" I knew he meant "Malt". I still call them "Mulches". He goes right along with it! Ha!

Did you have braces when you were a kid?

Space Maintainer

Isaak recently got a Space Maintainer. For a few weeks he's had to go into the orthodontist to get spacers to make room for his Space Maintainer. Isaak was born with too small of a jaw for his adult teeth. Last year he had I think 4 baby teeth removed to make room for teeth coming in.

Isaak couldn't eat very well that first night. I didn't even think to make soft things to eat. He didn't seem to be in any pain until it was time to eat.

Travis has never had any appliance in his mouth what so ever. Me on the other hand...I had a retainer, spacers, and braces. Travis kept saying, "Isaak you're fine. Quit milking it!" I sent Travis and Mica away to go to the bookstore, and to pick up Motrin.

Isaak let out all his tears after Travis left. I said, "Go take a bath with bubbles to relax yourself. I'll have a drink with ginger in it when you're done. Ginger helps with pain." He seemed ok, but cried a little more when he tried to finish his dinner.

He said, "Mom when Dad gets home please don't tell him I cried." I had already texted him that, but I said, "Ok."

I think people that have been in pain with certain things have more empathy when it comes to others. What do you think? I'm not saying Travis is cold hearted; the understanding isn't there. It's hard to get things that you haven't experienced before.

Did you have a mouth appliance at one point in your life?

Orthodontist

Isaak has an appointment later this month to see an Orthodontist.

I always thought Mica would be the concerning child. He's the the one that was born with a cyst under his tongue on one side. His tongue was so crazy when he was a baby. It's evened out a bit as he's aged, but is still asymmetrical.

Travis has known for awhile that Isaak's the one with teeth issues. Travis works as a dental tech, so he understands the mouth structure much better than I. Travis usually is the one that takes the boys to the dentist, and I take them to the doctor.

The good news is that both of our boys take pretty good care of their teeth. No they aren't perfect, but the dentist always comments about how good their teeth look in comparison to other kids that come in. Isaak's mouth is crowded. He lost a tooth that he's not supposed to loose until he's 12. I can't get his Orthodontist appointment out of my mind. For a few nights I couldn't go to sleep because I kept thinking about my baby coming back with no teeth at all. I know that won't happen, but it's on my mind.

Do you ever think crazy thoughts about things?

Isaak's very first trip to the dentist when he was 2.
