Birthday Berries

On the 21st I turned 44, for the second time. I say that because I was 44 all last year. On those grocery receipts and anywhere else I have to mark in my age, I was 44. Really I was 43. At least I'm used to writing 44 down.

I spent the day not searching for jobs. Instead I watched movies, shows and picked berries. I picked to have doughnuts for breakfast, because it was my birthday. Travis picked to have Indian food for dinner, because it was Father's day.

A quick note on Father's Day: Retail sucks with it! When Mother's Day is a thing, there's so much to buy and restaurants that give deals for it. When Father's Day is a thing there's nothing! Even the card selection sucks.

Explain this: Why do single moms claim Father's Day as their day? Single dads don't claim Mother's Day as their day. When did this become a thing? I'm not trying to judge. I'm just trying to understand.

Back to birthday and Father's Day shenanigans:

I made the boys watch the chick flick Uptown Girls. I rarely watch chick flicks. Many man flicks are what is played in this house. I consider beat them up, high action movies man flicks. They seemed to enjoy the movie. It's too bad Dakota Fanning doesn't act as much as she used to. She was such a great little actress.

After that I said, "Let's go pick berries!" If you remember this was something I did at work during lunch breaks all the time. Well I texted the boss' wife and asked if I could still pick them. I said, "Otherwise they will just drop to the ground." She said, "Sure we could come pick berries."

Mica started out holding the bowl, and grabbing high branches for me. That was a help. Isaak's in one of those, "I'm too good to work." stages. So he walked off flinging sticks onto a tree stump. Eventually both boys ended up like this:

I think the boys' behavior drove Travis more nuts than me. I was just happy to get berries.

When we got home Travis picked up dinner, and we watched Nobody's Fool. I told Travis how Paul Newman used to be quite the sexy guy. He didn't believe me.

Here's some sexy pictures of Paul Newman:

#circles

This is sort of random, but also connected with circles. I keep noticing circles in things.

Berries in a glass. I pick Mulberries during my lunch break. My fingernails always look awful this time of year, with all the berry picking. I put the berries in whatever is laying around.

We went out for Mother's Day - for my Mom mid June. Both my sisters are always so busy. If it were me, I wouldn't be able to stand being that busy! I like things low key. Life events happen, then I roll with it. I don't seek out events to make my life complicated. Do you roll with the flow, or are you always on the go?

My family is super picky with food. One of my sisters is a vegan, my Dad is on a particular diet to help with some eczema that was happening around his eyes, my other sister is sometimes milk free, and my niece is gluten and milk free. When it's time to go out I can hardly take the decision making. It took 21 texts in a group text to figure out where we were going to go eat, for Mother's Day in June. I'm not crazy about group texts. I work full time. I like my phone to be on in case a boy at home needs to get ahold of me. I silence it, but it's constant vibrations. I had a moment where I wanted to scream, "Pick a place already! Then text me where that place is!" When I make suggestions they don't want to hear it. I said, "We could pick Flagship Commons." It's like a food court, but much more healthy food options and cool! My Mom didn't want to go there. She didn't say why. I joked, which may be the truth that she just wanted my vegan sister's input. Finally after 21 texts it was P.F. Chang's that we ended up.

I must not be alone...when I told my coworkers about the 21 texts back and forth, and drama they didn't know how I could handle it. I've been living with guys too long. I like the way they choose things. They are super chill about the decisions that are made. I'm not even a big shopper! I like to know where I need to go, and get it. None of this look at purses for 20 minutes ordeal. Ha!

This is one of P.F. Chang's lights. How cool. Maybe it was worth the 21 texts.

This was in the ceiling of where Mica's Health Camp was. I already posted it, but it fits with all the circles I've been seeing.

Do you ever go through a time where you see something over and over again? Maybe in different ways.

Random Tid Bits

  1. We went to go spend time with Grandma and Grandpa - my parents.

Isaak to Grandma, "I just love your muscles." Grandma laughing, "That's fat. Not muscle!" We all laughed.

Mica to Grandpa, "Grandpa you smell like wood." Grandpa, "Ok...what kind of wood?" Mica, "A hard wood." Grandpa, "Like Oak?" Travis, "Like Hickory Dickory." Grandma kept laughing because Mica kept talking about Grandpa smelling like hard wood. Then I started laughing because Grandma was laughing so hard. Then Travis started laughing. Mica sat there with a confused look on his face.

  2.  Mica gets all annoyed that I come home with berries every day. He's like, "How many berries do you really need? We have a ton!" Travis respond with, "Mica it's free food." I respond with, "We need food throughout the winter too. There are no berries in the winter time. These berries will only last a little while, not even through the whole winter." He's like, "I really don't think you need to pick any more berries Mom."

  3. I keep picking these whiteish mulberries that are completely ripe.

  4. I asked Mica to pick raspberries. He went out, and came back in the matter of a few minutes. I said, "Mica what are you doing son? Is there a problem?" He said, "I just didn't think of the fact that I'm a bee and wasp magnet with what I'm wearing. I'm going to change shirts!" I said, "Ok. As long as the job gets done. ;)" Isaak yells out, "Mica I don't think it works that way!" *Yes the kid is all elbows, and does this dorky pose when I ask to take photos of him!

  5. We have a car commercial here in Omaha for a car place called H & H.  They have Hannah and Hailey as their people for their commercial.

  6. Isaak said, "Those two are Photoshopped!" Mica said, "Isaak they are twins." Isaak swears back that they are Photoshopped. My sister said, "They have different boobs. Yes I've examined them." She's a certified Lactation Consultant. LOL!

  7. I ran across the shirts below on FB. No, I have no idea where they came from. Let me know, and I'll source them. They so fit my parenting style. I wish I could wear them to Parent Teacher Conferences. Sorry if they offend you. They are really just a joke.

WW: Berry Picking {Linky}

I discovered that our June Berry tree was starting to get some red berries early. I figured that we better go ahead and pick some before the birds started eating them all.

Mica was a big help. He likes to get inside the tree and pick the berries that are not easy to get to. That does make it challenging to shoot pictures of him.

Isaak picks anything, green, red whatever. He had fun and that's what matters.

What to Do?

Well I picked tons of Oregano, washed it and now it's drying out. I figured we can give some to our work's.

Then I decided to join the birds and taste some of the berries off of our tree. Last year the birds got to them all before we got a chance to eat them. Now the tree has grown. More berries for us. I think I'll make muffins out of them.
