Yesterday I Was Proud

I took a 1/2 hour lunch, so I could leave early to go pick up Mica at Jump Rope for the Heart. He was so excited to do this.

I have to say that I was leery. I was worried because at the Y he couldn't jump rope. He started crying because he was tired and frustrated. Mica doesn't cry often at all!

Mica decided he wanted to participate because there was going to be a big party in the gym with music and snacks! They rope the little tikes in. Advertising is key!

I went to pick him up not knowing if he'd be in tears or all smiles?!

This is what I saw:

He had a determined look! His teacher was clapping for him! She said, "All Mica will do is jump backwards, but he's jumping!" His hair was so sweaty! I'm so glad Daddy gave him a summer hair cut the night before! He jumped for the full hour! No he wasn't graceful, he missed like 1/2 the jumps, but he figured it out. His teacher handed him a snack of apples.

Mica picked out a prize and got a pick gulf set and an adult t-shirt. I put on the form that he wears a small child's t-shirt. Everyone ended up getting a prize. It wasn't as organized as the form stated. Mica wore the HUGE t-shirt to bed for a pj shirt. He was really happy to be wearing it. The pink gulf kit is going in storage. It will be next years White Elephant gift for my work.

Jump roping isn't all Mica learned how to do yesterday! Mica can offically snap! He came in my room showing me his trick. Isaak was bummed he couldn't figure it out. I told Isaak, "In due time son. You'll learn that sooner then later."

Skipin' Rope

Mica was all excited about Jump Rope for Heart. He wants to do it because there is a party in the school gym. The funny thing is, is that the boy can't jump rope, yet. We've tried a few times at the Y. He got frustrated and looked like he was going to cry. I told Mica that jumping rope is a lot like walking, you just need to build up the coordination to do it. Someone told me to use the time to try and learn how to jump rope. I like that idea. He can raise money to defeat the skill. I suppose he could try and learn how before the event. With ALL THE TIME WE HAVE. I'm being sarcastic of course. I'd like the boy to learn how to ride a bike without training wheels; more so than jump rope.

I guess I need to go buy a jump rope. I have one somewhere, but I have NO CLUE where it's at. It would be a perfect gift for Easter, but I don't think we can wait that long. The Easter Bunny could have brought a jump rope for Mica and a Loop de Loop, otherwise known as a Hula Hoop for Isaak.

Bounce

After Mica and Isaak got their pink poodle purses this last weekend, we went up stairs and bounced.

When the boys saw that a bounce house was set up in the YMCA gym, their little eyes lit up like gigantic saucers.

I told my boy's, "Bounce over towards the edge, so I can get a picture!" Five minutes later I heard the guy in charge say, "Don't bounce towards the edge, that's against the rules. You can break the net!" I always feel crappy when I was at fault for my boys getting in trouble!

Then I try and justify my lack of common since with thinking, "Gee wiz you should of told them the rules before going in!" Looking at the above pictures I can totally see why it's against the rules to pull on the net!

They bounced for a very long time! Mica in particular has lots of energy! The boys are with my parents this week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. When Mica gets too wound up, Grandpa Spiehs takes them outside to run up and down the hill (which is steep).

That weekend I learned that most outsiders think our boys are older than they are. They can't believe Mica is 6 and Isaak is 3. Santa thought Mica was in first grade. He could have been (he has an August birthday). When I signed them up for swim lessons, the lady at the desk said, "Ok for a 7 year old and 4 year old?" I'm like, "Nope!" Later we went to a gallery and the lady there said the same thing. When I tell people how old our boys really are, they look at me and say, "Really?" Our kids are tall!
