Common Mistakes When Planning a Bridal Shower

5 Common Mistakes When Planning a Bridal Shower

If you have been tasked with planning a close friend or family member’s bridal shower, there is no doubt that you want the event to go off without a hitch. Unfortunately, there are a few common mistakes that you could fall victim to if you do not take the right steps from the very start. Here is a list of these common mistakes and how best to avoid them.

Being too prim and proper

Traditionally, a bridal shower is more low-key than a bachelorette party. However, that certainly does not mean that you should only be serving tea and cucumber sandwiches! Do not hesitate to get creative and throw a memorable celebration for your soon-to-be-wed loved one. It is always worthwhile to serve plenty of hearty food, to play some epic music to get the party started, and, of course, to hire the best bartending services Denver has to offer!

Neglecting to chat to the bride

You will probably want the bridal shower to be a surprise for your friend or relative, but it is still important to communicate with her regarding what she wants. You do not need to give away the date or the details, but it is definitely recommended to speak to her about who she wants to invite, what kind of atmosphere she would prefer, and what sort of gifts she would love. That way, you can be sure that you will steer clear of any unpleasant surprises that could potentially ruin the event for the guest of honor!

Doing it alone

It might sound like a treat at first – but the reality is that planning a bridal shower is no easy feat! If you are worried that you might not have the time or the expertise necessary to pull it off on your own, do not think twice about asking some of the bride’s other close friends and relatives to chip in and lend a hand. Alternatively, pay a professional event planner to handle the nitty-gritty on your behalf.

Forgetting about favors

Bridal shower favors are a lovely touch to the event and are excellent for saying thank you to the guests for their gifts and for gracing the bride with their presence. The great news is that you don’t need to spend a fortune on anything fancy if your budget is tight. In fact, you can even make the favors yourself if you would prefer. From DIY lavender pouches to keep linen cupboards smelling gorgeous to a DIY treats bag, the options are practically endless.

Leaving the groom out

Bridal showers are indeed traditionally a females-only event but, in modern times, it is good etiquette to extend an invite to the groom. Some grooms will be keen to attend the event from start to finish, while others may opt to make a quick appearance at the end of the shower to greet and thank the guests.

Now that you know what mistakes to avoid, you can feel confident about proceeding with the planning. Enjoy!

WW: 50th {Linky}

My parents just had their 50th wedding anniversary.

A day before they we thought we'd meet up in the afternoon. Then my aunts and cousins were going to drive by to tell them, "Happy Anniversary!" My sister called them to ask what they were going to do on their special day. They we going to go on an all day drive. So much for the drive by.

They knew my sister Angie was coming in the morning to give them a card. Me, my 2 sisters, their 3 son-in-laws, their 7 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 1 granddaughter on the way all came to visit, with signs.

The first grader went up to ring their bell. My mom was a bit teary eyed. She hasn't seen us all together, since Christmas.

It was hard to tell if we were smiling, or not. We all wore masks. Most of us hardly leave the house. Terra, my sister is very pregnant, and her son Emerson has a genetic condition called Trisomy 18. I have Asthma. We're home most of the time.

Here's Isaak with the 1st grader Edison. Isaak's really excited for the new baby Margaret to be born. Edison's don't think Isaak's all that anymore. Ha!

I thought the boys were doing cat's in the cradle. Nope Elijah the one that's Isaak's age (7th grade) was teaching Mica how to do a magic trick.

All the sudden swings and sidewalk chalk were cool. It's about the only things there were to do, for a few hours.

I know my parents didn't get a big party. But I think they were happy with this.

WW: Kailey's Wedding {Linky}

My niece Kailey got married last month. It was a pretty wedding, and reception.

The only sucky thing...my sister told our Dad to put his camera away. I think she didn't want him getting in the way of the paid photographer. She didn't tell me that, but I knew to stay clear of the paid photographer. I didn't get any great shots of the bride. You know how it is, hustle hustle. I do hope the paid photographer did a great job.

This one would have been good, had I used my camera, and not my phone. But they were like this for literally 2 seconds for me.

My niece with my nephews that were the ring bearers. Too bad we couldn't of gotten Emerson turned around!

A few dance shots:

I did get other family members though!

Meet my Dad and Mom! My Mom was off looking at the wedding party, so I snagged a single shot of my Dad. It was click, as fast as you can time.

My Dad, Isaak and Nephew Elijah (both age 11).

My Dad, Mom, Nephew Evan and Mica (both age14).

Mica and Nephew Evan (both age 14) being goofy! Mica loves to do this, for photos.

Isaak and Nephew Elijah (both age 11).

The Bride's Brother, my Nephew Ethan (age 19 I think).

Mica, my Nephews Evan and Ethen.

Then my sister Terra wanted me to shoot some photos of her family. Well, she kept wanting me to shoot photos. She wants to use one for her Christmas card. Try shooting a photo of 4 boys, one special needs that bobs around a lot. Lots of things going on! The other kids wanted to hang out, or play. I wasn't expecting this at all. By the time I shot a lot of her family, my kids were so done. I didn't even get shots of them alone, or with each other. I think I shot 20, or so of just her family. With Emerson, you almost need an assistant. The next day she was after me getting the photos to her. I love her, but wanted to scream.

Here's us:

An Us-ie of Isaak and I. Isaak got sick later that night. He slept late the next day, was sneezy, coughy, and didn't look good.

The highlight of the night wasn't the photos, it was the wedding, but also when my Uncle Dave was getting a beer - Travis and I started dancing with him all crazy like. He didn't honestly know what to do.

When was the last wedding that you went to?

Groove Life - Edge Silicone Rings Review

My husband makes most of my jewelry. He designs it, can cast it, and sets the stones.

He hardly wears his own wedding ring. With his trade he uses his hands all the time. They get dried out from plaster.

My Dad rarely wore his wedding ring either. His knuckles were so big. He had trouble getting his ring up and over his knuckle. Once it was on it was loose.

I'm happy to introduce you to Groove Life - Edge Silicone Rings:

The ring came in a cool masculine tin box. It was easy to open.

The Great Thing About Silicone Rings:

-They are not expensive! The one they sent me is $29.95, which is way cheaper than the standard wedding ring.

-There is a lot of different looks: 91 on their website for men right now. 88 on their website for women right now.

-They have ones for men and women.

-They have different sizes to choose from. Men's run from 8-14. Women's run from 4-11.

-They stretch a big, so they'll go over big knuckles. They'll also come off when it's hot outside, and a finger swells.

-There are made with a medical grade silicone, so there aren't metal allergies to worry about.

- Because it's a medical grade silicone your finger won't get as hot as a traditional wedding ring will make it.

Where to Get This Ring:

Get it on their website: https://groovelife.com/collections/edge-collection.

They do let you trade out sizes, if the size doesn't work. They also have a great warranty. If it breaks, they let you exchange it.

Like I said above this ring is $29.95. The cost does very due to the style of the ring. They do have shipping options. I got mine fairly fast! If you want it delivered within 6-7 days it's only $1.99, if you want it delivered within 3-5 days it's only $2.99, and if you want it delivered really fast within 1-2 days it's $29. That still makes it cheaper than any traditional ring.

The Only Downfalls:

There is no stone selection. That's known upfront of course.

I love the options on their site! Would you ever think to go with a silicone ring?

Disclaimer: I got this product for free in exchange for this review that was written by me. The company did not influence me in any way on what to say.

WW: Joslyn Art Museum {Linky}

We went to a wedding and reception on Sunday night. I wasn't going to go because it was so late for the boys on a school night. BUT it was at the Joslyn Art Museum. I haven't been there at night, since I was a kid.

The wedding was really pretty. There was group of people playing sting instruments before, and throughout the wedding. They played Beatle songs. The boys loved it!

Between the wedding and reception they opened up the part of the gallery viewers have to pay to see. We couldn't take any pictures. The work was by Andrew Moore.

One of my favorite pieces was Simon's Schoolhouse Museum.

Source
The wedding its self took place in front of a Dale Chihuly installation. I've always loved the pieces with his name on them, but questioned them at the same time. He has glass blowers all over blow glass for him, and he puts his name on the pieces. To me the other glass blowers should get credit too. It is what it is.

The reception was by a Dale Chihuly installation as well.

Can you guess what this is?

If you guessed tables you were right. Thats a reflection of our tables from the glass ceiling. Here we are:

We must not go to a lot of weddings. Isaak had a lot of questions, "What's a ring bearer? What's a bride's maid? When will the bride walk down?"

WW: Wedding {Linky}

We went to my sister-in-law's wedding this weekend. Lots of driving. 12 hours of driving in one weekend is a lot.

She really was a pretty bride. I like the dress she picked out.

The boys were so happy to see their one and only cousin on that side. Of course one kid had to look the other way.

Unlike most boys, my boys love getting dressed up. I love these little suits I got at Easter time 2 Easters ago. I got them big, but this is probably the last time they'll get to wear them. Isaak's sleeves are getting short.

Here they are with their Grandma and Grandpa Apel.

I hardly put photos up of myself because I'm usually behind the camera. Here I am:

Mica - the 9 year old caught the garter belt. Daddy and I looked at each other as if to say OMG. Then Isaak -  the 6 year old came running to our table looking all pouty. He said, "I wanted to catch that! I didn't know I could run for it." Daddy said, "Son people do not want to catch that thing."

Have you ever caught the garter belt the groom tossed, or flowers the bride tossed?
