The Mammoth Site

One of our first stops in South Dakota was a Mammoth Site in Hot Springs.

Daddy is super into dinosaurs. He actually helped to dig up plesiosaur in Ashfall, Nebraska once. I thought for sure one of our boys would be into them to. They both played with them, but they were never a favorite.

The Mammoth Site is pretty cool. I think it's amazing that it's so big. Pretty much everyone that works there is a volunteer.

Mica and Isaak were both picked to be volunteers to hold up mammoth bones.

Here's the dig site. I'm not sure the boys understood what they were looking at. I thought it was pretty cool! Mica and Isaak seemed more interested in their old school phones that we could hear our tour guide on.

They had other rooms to view some cool things.

Isaak came to me with his hurt dinosaur. He said his wing was damaged. He was trying to get him better. This is what the dinosaur's looked like:

Never mind the fact that he has a play doctor's kit. I always use clamps on my hurt limbs. ;) I'm totally being sarcastic with that last sentence! Isaak proceeded to put this little dinosaur in his play goggles to carry him around, until he was better.

Isaak is a very creative, and outside the the box kind of kid when it comes to his play.

Grandma Spiehs got all the smaller Grandkids these shirts by Mouthman for Christmas. If you cross your arms just right, it looks like the animal on the front is roaring. My boys haven't quite mastered it. They still are fun!

Happy Halloween!!!

Daddy took the boys out trick or treating, while I passed out candy. It's pretty low key. We take turns passing out candy.

The boys were super excited to go out. I made them put on their costumes early, so I could get some good photos.

These are not all of them. I just wanted to put up a few. Next week for my Wordless Wednesday I'll put up more.

Isaak the dinosaur. He kept saying, "RAWR" loudly! Daddy said that someone said to Isaak, "Can I put candy in your pail?" Isaak said, "It's not a pail, it's a bucket."

Mica as Indiana Jones. No surprise; he's been wearing his costume for the last 2 months off and on! He was excited that Mommy finally let him play with his whip. Someone asked Mica, "Can I put candy in your bag?" Mica said, "It's not a bag. It's a satchel." Funny I just looked to make sure I spelled "satchel" right, and it's defined as being a bag. ;)

This dinosaur costume has gone through 3 kids now. Cousin Ethan that is in 6th grade wore it, then Mica and now Isaak's going to wear it.

Dinosaur Drawing Wars

Mica drew this:

He crinkled his dinosaur drawing up in a ball and said it was bad. He's only 5 years old. I think it's pretty good for 5! Daddy and I both told him so too!

Daddy drew this for Mica:

Mica told Daddy that his drawing was the best thing he has ever experienced besides coming out of Mommy's tummy! Where he got that last part, I do not know!?!

The Embarrassing Brontosaurus

• Has your kids every truly embarrassed you?
• Well Mica embarrassed me tonight in a big way!

• I have to start from the beginning. Daddy went out to dinner with a guy that likes his artwork a week or so ago. One of his artsy friends was having a get together, so we went. We really didn't know anyone, but felt somehow comfortable. 
• The kids were running around and talking to people. Isaak loved their dog and cat. 

• Towards the end of the night Mica said to a really large gentleman, "You're really big." I was biting my tongue. I was thinking, "Stop there, don't say anymore Mica!" Mica continued, "You're really as big as a Brontosaurus." I was a little distance from them, so I pretended not to notice. But quickly said, "Hey Mica come over and sit with Mommy." I said it very calm, but was thinking, "Hey Mica come over and sit with Mommy!!!!!!!!!!!" 
• Daddy of course didn't hear a thing. It was just me that heard what my 5 year old said.
• I didn't know whether to apologize to this man for what my son said, or to pretend that I didn't hear?!? Bringing attention to it could have made the situation worse for this man, and Mica might have said more.

• I don't know if I handled the situation right or not. I kept my mouth shut until the car ride home. I said, "Mica you shouldn't tell people that they are big, fat, and especially that they are as big as a Brontosaurus! That could really hurt someone's feelings." Mica said, "Ok Mommy I won't call anyone something like that again."

• I do have to give the kid some points for creativity. He didn't mean to hurt the guy's feelings. 
• He just really thought he looked like a cool, big dinosaur.

• It totally reminded me of a time when cousin Kailey, who is now almost 16 years old said that a guy was fat in a Laundromat. Aunt Angela couldn't exactly leave. Kailey kept saying it over and over again. Angela kept telling her to be quiet! Finally Kailey said, "But Mommy I love my grandma and she's fat." Poor Grandma! Sorry Grandma!
• Now Kailey is on the news for doing good by starting a cheerleading squad for special needs kids, so there is hope for Mica!
