I'm Tired

Today I didn't want to get out of bed! I went to bed kind of late. Then at 2 AM I heard Isaak yell out, "MOMMY I HAVE TO GO POTTY!" I'm so happy he told me. It's just that I was in a pretty deep sleep. Then he said with a whisper, "Mommy maybe I shouldn't flush. I don't want to wake up Daddy!" I said, "Isaak you need to flush. You already woke me up."

So I teach on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. By the time Wednesday afternoon rolls around, I'm ready for a nap!

Tonight I'm going to bed at 9:30 or 10, which is early for me. I have to get up early in the morning anyhow.

One last thing - Just a random funny thing Isaak said! There was a lady that was wearing a tie dyed shirt that looked kind of like this:

Isaak says in his outside voice, "Mommy there's a rainbow lady over there!" Then he pointed until I turned my head to look. Silly boy!

My Neighbors Might Have/Could Have Gotten a Show Last Week

I kind of forgot about the story of this post all together. Last Friday Daddy had to work at an art gallery. I picked up both kids, made dinner in a hurry and we attempted to go swimming. The pool was closed, so the swimming thing only happened for a little bit.

Needless to say, I was a single mom for a night.

We walked in the door. I had my hands were very full. Isaak yells out, "I'm going to go potty in my pants!" I drop everything and run in the bathroom. He says, "I can't get my pants down!" I help him. Mica says, "I really have to go as well Mom!" In a panic I said, "Mica you can go on the back porch. Your brother is seriously going to pee his pants if I don't take him now!"

I proceed to go off a little on Isaak about how we need to go potty before we leave places. Sometimes he flat out refuses.

I pull Isaak's pants up and hear Mica come back in. I walk in the living room and notice the front door open. I said, "Mica why is the front door open?" He said, "Because that is where I went potty!" I said, "I told you to go out the back door; not the front door! Do you really want our neighbors calling the police because there is a naked boy outside?" He seemed really confused. I explained, "Mommy really shouldn't have you go potty outside at all. I just did in a panic because it's the first thing I thought to do. You need to go outside the back door, so no one sees you!" He's like, "Ok Mom." I was thinking about Mica with his pants down on his ankles, peeing off the porch and what people could have/might have seen! I just had to laugh.

Geuss Who's Been Peeing His Pants Lately?

Answer: Mr. Isaak!

Not taken today, but I thought it fit the post well.

It's been happening at Grandma and Grandpa Spiehs' house. I take that back, it's just noticeable at their house. At our house, it's not as big of a deal. We have all wood floors.

I called to check on him at lunch time. His holiday program for preschool is tonight. They had rehearsal this morning. I was talking on the phone to my Mom (Grandma); and heard my Dad (Grandpa) scolding him in the background. Isaak had to wipe up his mess. That is how it should be. When they spill or have accidents at our house, they have to wipe it up to.

As far as scolding him goes, he's old enough and trained enough to know better. I've been putting the little punk a monk on the potty since he was 1 1/2. He A) Is my lazy child. I do have to give him credit for picking up good {when he wants to}. Aunt Terra used to give him a choice of walking or riding in a stroller, he'd pick the stroller almost every time. He would sit in the stroller, instead of play on the playground. We don't give him an option at all now. He also refused to participate in the stretching at the YMCA. B) His is after all three years old. I found this to be much more challenging than the terrible two's; with both Mica and Isaak. C) Has been acting emotional and stubborn lately. He gets pouty lipped and won't tell you what is wrong sometimes. Maybe he has the holiday blues.

I kind of wonder what goes through their minds sometimes.

Crazy Traits

I wanted to blog about these traits that the boys have before I forget them.

Mica's been talking then his lips keep moving even though he's done talking. It's almost like his lips say another sentence after he says the sentence. You just can't hear any words. I mentioned this at conferences to his main teacher and the speech teacher. They both said to ignore it. They said that kids sometimes go through crazy things like that. It's just a phase. I really want to video tape him doing it just to show you what I'm talking about. It's really odd. Of course if I did that, I'd bring attention to it. He also blinks a lot when he's tired.

Isaak says: "Dendent" for Didn't, "Selery" for Sorry, "Suncunt" for Second, "Ermasen" for Emerson and "Micker Donalds" for McDonalds. The last one cracks me up the most. A few I've mentioned on here before. Isaak demands that I say, "Goodbye" to his potty before he flushes it. Odd, I know. I think all preschoolers have a little oddness to them. They are little, funny people. ;)

Daring - No Diaper

  • Isaak's been going on this diaper strike. He'll turn 3 years the middle of May.
  • I've been setting him on the toilet since he turned 1.
  • I never treated it like a do or die thing.
  • He's been standing to go. He wants to do everything himself!
  • He's gone back and forth this whole time.
  • He sometimes doesn't want to stop playing to go potty. I have found new tactics to get him to go. Like I say, "Hey Isaak do you want to go look in the mirror?",  "Isaak do you want to go make bubbles in the toilet?", "Lets go look at some pictures in the hallway." Anything to get him in the bathroom.
  • There are a few things in my mind that get in the way of potty training:
  1. Cutting teeth. Both of our kids cut teeth on the later side.
  2. Getting sick.
  3. Pull-Up's.
  4. Lack of consistency.
  • Isaak would do great with training; then he'd get sick, or cut a tooth. Downhill he'd go, and we'd have to help him back up. Much like how they eat well for a week, and then go through a time where they just don't eat much because they aren't growing.
  • Pull-Up's are wonderful because the other people that watch him have carpet. Many errands are run throughout the day where Isaak is in a car seat. At home he wears underwear. We have wood floors. Pull-Up's are horrible because toddlers feel like they are wearing a diaper; they pee in them. There lacks the consistency.
  • Well Isaak's told us that he doesn't want to wear a diaper anymore {even at night}. We're being super daring, and we're giving him what he wants {no diaper}.
  • He has a toddler bed, so it's a plastic covered mattress. I put down a pee pad, crib sheet, pee pad, crib sheet. That way when he has an accident in the middle of the night I can hopefully remove the top two layers instead of make a bed.
  • This is something new, so we will see how the no diaper thing goes. Last night I went in at 4 am, and he was wet and cold. He didn't wake up after peeing his pants. It may take awhile, and lots of laundry.

Give Me a Book While I Go Potty

  • I went to sit down like girls do to go to the bathroom.
  • Isaak walked in and handed me his Too Big for Diapers book.

  • I said, "Oh you want me to read you this book?" I picked up the book to show him the pages as I read. Isaak grabbed the book and said, "No." He turned the book around so that I would read it.
  • He wanted me to read a book like he does when sits on the pot.
  • When I was done Isaak said, "Poop?" I said, "No honey." I never even had to do that.
  • Isaak must think that I have to do that a lot; if that's what he thinks I do every time I sit down on the potty.
  • We've trained him to stand to pee; sit to poop.
  • It was very nice of him to think of me.

Toliet Paper

  • It took awhile for Mica to learn to wipe himself. He's finally learned.
  • Isaak was on the pot doing his duty. I heard him say, "Mommy I done." I usually tell him I'm coming soon. He will sometimes go more. I heard him say, "Mommy I done" again.
  • I went to go get Isaak off the toilet. There was toilet paper stuck between his checks, and some in the toilet.
  • He tried to wipe himself! I smiled and said, "You're a big boy! Wiping yourself already!"
  • Maybe Isaak isn't going to be hard to train with wiping like his big brother Mica was!
  • Isaak flushed and said, "I get sticker?"
  • I've never given him a sticker for going potty. I just give him praise and high fives. That's always been enough.
  • Later on I talked to Aunt Terra, and told her about Isaak trying to wipe himself, and that he wanted a sticker. She's the one that gives him a sticker if he goes number 2.

They're Out of Town and it isn't Such a Bad Thing

Bonding Time
  • Aunt Terra, Uncle Tyson, Nephew's Evan and Elijah all went on a cruise to Alaska. Very cool!
  • Those folks leaving means we don't have a babysitter for 4 days.
  • I took some time off of work to cover for Aunt Terra.
  • It's kind of nice because it forces Mica and Isaak to play with each other more.
  • Mica and Evan are the same age. Elijah thinks he's one of the big boys. That leaves Isaak as the odd one out.
  • When they are all together Mica says that Isaak can't play because he's a baby. Aunt Terra said, "Elijah is the same age as Isaak." Evan and Mica were like, "Really?"
  • I feel for the little guy! No one likes being left out. Trust me we've talked, and read books to Mica all about including people.
  • A wonderful thing happened. Mica's been asking when Isaak is getting up from his nap? It's like he just can't wait for someone to play with.
  • Now they aren't perfect, and have argued too. They are different ages, so they are bound to play different.
Potty Time
  • Another great thing has happened as a result of Aunt Terra being out of town. I've left Isaak nude on the bottom half. He's been going potty by himself for 2 1/2 days!
  • He had a little puddle on the floor this morning, and said, "Potty!" He went and finished up in the bathroom. I'm ok with that! I don't know if he will stay this trained when he's at someone's house. He will be clothed then. But I'm happy he's potting himself here!
