Random Tid Bits

1. I had a conversation with the boys about soda.
   
   Me: I just don't want you boys drinking soda a lot. I know someone at my work that drank Mountain Dew and got kidney stones.
   
   Mica: What are kidney stones?
   
   Me: Well it's like a small stone(s) that is trapped in your kidneys. The only way to get it out is by peeing it out. If it's really big they have to do surgery. I heard that peeing out a kidney stone sometimes hurts worse than having a baby.
   
   Mica: I don't want to pee out a stone. I won't drink Mountain Dew ever.
   
   Me: Well don't drink Mountain Dew.
   
   At school a few days later Mica won a prize. He picked to have a soda. It surprised me that they even had that option considering that they don't even want parents to pack juice in their school lunches.
   
   Mica ran up to Daddy after school and whispered: Dad is this soda going to give me kidney stones? I don't want to have to pee out a stone!
   
   Daddy knew nothing about our conversation about soda. He laughed and said: I think if you just have one soda you're fine. 



2. Mica hates spiders. I don't know where he got this fear of spiders.
   
   Mica: I just killed 3 spiders in my room with my Indiana Jones whip.
   
   
   
   
   Me: Yuck, make sure you clean the spider guts off your whip and floor with toilet paper. Are you sure there were 3 spiders you killed?
   
   Mica: Ya Mom I'm sure. 
   
   *Cleaning it up Mica said Oh I guess it was just 1. The others are just crack designs in our wood floor.



3. Both boys love to talk about natural disasters. Isaak calls a hurricane "Hore-i-cane".  It's too funny to correct.



4. Mica has been asking me for weeks: Mom am I old enough to have a frappe yet?
   
   Me: What's do you want?
   
   At first I don't know what he's talking about. He pronounces it as "frape" rhyming with grape.
   
   My answer: No you can't have a frappe.

5.  We went to a wedding this last weekend. In the reception hall people were smoking.
   
   Me: Look at that the worker...she is smoking.
   
   Daddy: What are we seriously stuck in the 1990s?
   
   Me: That's sort of what I was thinking.
   
   Daddy: I thought that was illegal to smoke inside everywhere.

   Is it illegal to smoke in public places where you live. It's illegal to smoke inside all public places in Nebraska. Even bars and bowling allies are smoke free.

Mica Was the King of Play Dates This Last Weekend

We wanted Mica to play with someone, while Isaak was hanging out with Aunt Angela.
Somehow, someway communication isn't always on board. Daddy sets the playdates up most of the time because he picks the boys up from school. Some of Mica's friend's parents are from Africa. There's a language barrier to get through as well.

One kid Mica has been raving about. Mica's wanted him to come over for awhile now. We'll call him Boy A. The trouble is, is his mom's phone broke. We can leave messages, but she can't get them.

We have to work on phone etiquette with Mica!

Mica's Phone Message to Boy A:

"I've been waiting a long time for you to come over. Are you coming over? Oh and this is Mica."

He decided to try another friend. We'll called him Boy B. It to was awkward, but not as awkward because I told him exactly what to say. Boy B's Mother was impressed that I make Mica use the phone. She has older kids, and says now a days they only know how to text, not talk. Boy B couldn't play on Saturday, but he could play on Sunday.

Boy A's whole family came over and wanted to take Mica to the library to read books, and play on their computers. Later they came and played at our house for awhile. It was great; I just wasn't expecting it. I was kind of glad Boy B didn't commit to that day!

Sunday came and Mica called Boy B again. His mom said the day before that they could play at Boy B's Grandma's house. She lives right behind us. Boy B has come over to our house a few times.

Mica's Phone Message to Boy B:

"Hi this is Mica. I really want to go to your Grandma's house instead of my house. When will this occur?" 

Daddy and I looked at each other and both said, "Occur?" and started laughing.

Mica went over there around 1, and played for a few hours. 

He got home and had a soda in his hand.

He said, "Mom they gave me a Pepsi. I didn't realize it had caffeine in it; until I read the back of the can. I'm going to go dump it out. It really made me feel full." 

We don't drink soda regularly. They do. Not a big deal. Mica felt it was a big deal. To him it was like they were drugging him.

The next morning Mica told me that he told Boy B that his Grandma's house was boring. I didn't say too much that second. Sometimes I need a few minutes to process what to do, or say with my kids. 

At breakfast I said, 

"Mica do you remember that Little House on the Prairie where Nellie told Laura her house was boring? It made Laura feel so bad. He shook his head yes. I want you to go to school and give Boy B an apology. 

Tell him, 'Boy B I'm sorry for telling you that your Grandma's house was boring. I really wanted to play with you. It wasn't right for me to say that about your Grandma's house. I'm just thankful that you had me over.'"

I made Mica practice like I was Boy B. That to was just about as awkward as his phone messages. He practiced a few times. Daddy said he'd stand there and observe the apology before school to make sure it happened. 

For the record

It isn't just Mica that is awkward with the phone. Boy B did call while we were gone, and his message wasn't understandable at all. As for the rudeness factor, well we've heard that to. When Mica's had friends over they've asked us why we don't have candy and cookies around our house? Our food is boring.

Spicy Soda, Hot Chocolate Coffee

• I forgot to blog about this. We just do not have soda very much, if at all. It's water, milk and watered down juice for breakfast at our house.
• Grandma and Grandpa Apel offered the boy's orange soda at Thanksgiving time. 
• Isaak sucked his down like it's going out style. Kind of like how I used to.
• Mica takes a sip and say, "WOW this is spicy!" The fizz is spicy to him. He loves the orange, but not the spice.

• This weekend Aunt Terra gave me some coffee. Isaak was reaching across the table, and we stopped him because of the hot coffee. 
• Terra said, "Don't call it coffee." We're all thinking, "????????????"
• Apparently Terra lets the boy's stop off to get hot chocolate at Panera when she's at stroller class. Cousin Elijah calls his hot chocolate, "Coffee."
• I always wondered why when we drink coffee Isaak acts like he wants some too. 
• Apparently this year our boy's LOVE hot chocolate! Last year they wouldn't drink it.
