#NancyDrew and #TheHiddenStaircase Swag Pack #Giveaway

Disclosure: **“Warner Bros. provided me with a swag pack to facilitate this post. The opinions I share are my own.”**

I love movies and shows that are from old books. While I didn't really get into Nancy Drew, I know a lot of people did! Possibly I just wasn't introduced to Nancy Drew. I do love mysteries!

Who doesn’t love an epic mystery?

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase is an all-new film coming to theaters on March 15 from Warner Bros., Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production and Red 56. I think Ellen DeGeneres is so funny! She's probably a great fit for this film!

The iconic mystery solving teenager from the classic Nancy Drew books is back with an all-new feature length film that will keep you guessing until the very end!

About Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase Theatrical:

After the death of his wife, Carson Drew decides to leave Chicago behind and make a fresh start with his daughter 16-year-old daughter Nancy in River Heights. Nancy is asked by Flora to help solve the ghostly activity at her home, the Twin Elms mansion. Can she help explain the creaking footsteps, exploding lightbulbs and the ominous creature? Is it the handiwork of high-school bully Derek Barnes? Or is it possible that the ghost of original owner Malcolm Colfax is back for revenge? Recruiting her best friends George and Bess, along with local “mean girl” Helen, Nancy Drew is on the case!

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase stars:

Sophia Lillis (IT and “Sharp Objects”) as Nancy Drew
Sam Trammell (“True Blood” and “This is Us”) as Carson Drew (Nancy’s father)
Linda Lavin (“The Good Wife” and Alice) as Flora
Andrea Anders (“Joey” and “Better Off Ted”) as Hannah (Nancy’s Aunt)
Laura Slade Wiggins (“Shameless”) as Helen
Zoe Renee (“The Quad”) as George
Mackenzie Graham (The Purge) as Bess

#Giveaway 9/11 Film Charlie Sheen Autographed Poster and Gift Pack #Remember911 @9_11Movie

Disclosure: I did not receive anything from the sponsor. All opinions are genuine, based on my experience with the the information out there on 9/11, and I have not been influenced by promotional items.

9/11 opens in theaters on September 8. I really can't wait to see it.

9/11 certainly was a day to remember. We just moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Omaha, Nebraska. Travis started his first dental technician job on 9/11. I had trouble getting work because no one was hiring. One of my friend's got married the weekend after 9/11 occurred. Many of her family members called to cancel if they were flying in for the ceremony. I couldn't watch the TV without crying. I think anyone that was an adult at that time remembers that day.

9/11 features an all star cast including:

  • Luis Guzman (The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3)
  • Gina Gershon (Showgirls)
  • Wood Harris (Justified)
  • Jacqueline Bisset (Dancing on the Edge (BBC), Welcome to New York)
  • Olga Fonda (The Vampire Diaries)
  • Bruce Davison (X-Men)

About:

In the World Trade Center, a billionaire sits in his attorney’s office awaiting a divorce hearing against his wife. In a west side apartment, a bike messenger kisses his 5-year old daughter and sings her “Happy Birthday” before leaving for work. A maintenance man gets dispatched to help a tenant with his lock. In an upper east side apartment, a young model musters the courage to break up with her sugar daddy. As random as random can be, these individuals step into a crowded World Trade Center elevator.

Wrapped up in their own world, they all ride silently hearing only the sound of the elevator giving notice of each floor. When the elevator stops on the 34th floor, it empties leaving only these five behind. Moments later ... their world changes as the collision of a jet into the North Tower incapacitates the elevator.

With no understanding of what has happened and is happening around them, these fives are forced to band together and fight against all odds to escape from the impending horrific collapse. During these critical minutes, a story of courage, faith, and the will to live unfolds. Visit the official 9/11 movie website for more information.

The Time I Failed as a Parent

Not really.

So we wanted to watch the movie, Captain Fantastic. Have you seen it? Oh my goodness it's a great movie!

We watched the trailer and were all like, "That seems like our taste of a movie." We all wanted to watch it. There was only one problem: It was rated R.

Travis decided to look up what made it rated R. There was a scene where the Dad comes out nude, and another scene where the little girl is nude from the back. There was some language. All things that we thought, ok. We prefered that stuff not be in it, but we can't shelter them their whole lives. The boys have seen many nudes at art openings. We decided to watch it.

We all loved it! It's about a man that wanted to raise his kids in the wild. His Father in Law wanted to take the kids away from him. His Father in Law thought that raising kids in the wild is not right. The kids were super smart survivors, but did lack on social skills outside their family.

But...the Dad blatantly tells their youngest what sex is. Mica's been talked to about sex in a scientific way. We've talked to him about girl and boy development as well. We didn't just come out, and say what sex is. Now our soon to be 9 year old knows too. They both looked at us and said, "Is that really what it is?" We're both like, "Ya." That was it. No more questions asked. We did say, "Boys don't talk about sex at school. Some parents haven't talked to their kids about that yet."

On one hand I was thinking, Man my 8 year knows what sex is! On the other hand I'm glad they both know. A hard talk just became easier. Rumors about it are no longer rumors. We can have open dialog, talk about respecting women's bodies, and so on.

They've both been around breastfeeding, and like I said gallery openings that have had nude drawings on display. Sex is just another part of human nature.

Did you ever have a Birds and Bees discussion with your parents? I don't remember one in particular. My Dad was very open with us though. If we would have asked he would have told us whatever we wanted to know.

1 Night Movie Giveaway

I do enjoy a romantic comedy every once in awhile. It seems that by having boys I tend to watch mostly action flicks these days. Level 33 has a new film 1 Night. It has romance, comedy, and drama. I loved watching something different for once.

Starring-

1 Night stars Pitch Perfect’s Anna Camp along with Justin Chatwin (Shameless):

It also stars Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games) and Kyle Allen (The Path):

It also starred Kelli Berglund, Roshon Fegan, and Evan Hofer

Written and Directed By: Minhal Baig

Produced By: Kerry Barden, Han S Canosa and Marius A Markeviciusi

About-

1 Night discusses relationships. They are not always easy because you have to work at them. It is about rekindling that passion and love as well as finding it for the first time, by following two couples at different stages of their romance.

30 something Elizabeth (Anna Camp) must decide whether to salvage her relationship with Drew (Justin Chatwin) after much personal disappointment.

Meanwhile, Bea (Isabelle Fuhrman), a worrisome teenager, reconnects with her introverted childhood friend, Andy (Kyle Allen) to overcome their difference in high school status following their prom.

Past and present collide as two couples explore love over the course of one night at a hotel.

It’s perfect for Valentine’s Day and after all isn’t February the month of love?

Watch 1 Night. It's on demand, and in a theater near you.

What I Thought-

1 Night is a sweet movie. I forgot how difficult dating really is. It was neat how they had 2 stories going on, and them coming together.

Giveaway-

One of my readers is going to win 1 Night. You will win a digital or dvd - the sponsor will choose, but try to accommodate what you'd prefer. The giveaway is open to residents of the US, 18+, and will run through 3/1. Winner will have 24 hours to respond to the email before a new winner is selected.

No PO Boxes. Open to the US.

Disclaimer: I received 1 Night to assist with this review. I wrote this post, and was not influenced at all with an opinion. I only review things that I find interesting, or that would benefit my readers or family. This was provided to me from Level 33 and Tether Group.

Random Tid Bits

  1. If you haven't seen this movie do: I Am Big Bird

  2. I've watched it twice. It was that good. Yes it's about the guy that played Big Bird. I just love the creativity of his. A few things I learned, while watching it: 1. Big Bird almost went to space. Luckily they ran out of room on that space ship. It was the Challenger that blew up when I was in 3rd grade. 2. Caroll Spinney was great friends with Jim Henson. There's a lot more, but I don't want to give the movie away.

It's creative, sad, happy, feel good kind of movie.

  3. I have 1 student that didn't show up all the first week of his classes. I mentioned something to administration and they said, "Ya he has a lot on his plate right now. He'll be in tomorrow." That tomorrow was said for 3 days. I hate when they tell you a student has a lot on their plate, but they don't say what. It's a small school. We all know each other. They get all secret like with some things, and totally not with others. It's so strange.

There's been times where I've had a lot on my plate, and my sister that has 4 kids - 1 being special needs still shows up. I'd have more empathy if I knew why his plate is so full.  I think anyone would.

  4. I really can't wait for sunnier weather. I hate going home, and not being able to take photos because it's dark right after I get there. It makes reviewing products, or taking photos of my kids hard.

  5. We had "Memories With Mom" this morning. Maybe it's called, "Doughnuts With Mom". Anyhow we played UNO, and Isaak won twice. Mica kept saying, "He cheated!" I don't know how you could really cheat in UNO. Someone was a little bitter about his brother winning.

  6. My kids are so different. Mica could navigate through a maze like Travis. Isaak could get lost going straight like me. We were at Khol's - having Mica try on shirts. Isaak had to go to the bathroom. I said, "Just go straight. I'll stand right here in the hallway between you both." I saw 2 store clerks directing my crying son down the straight hallway. He was seriously going to turn to go the left instead of straight. Mica was doing the typical big brother thing by laughing at him. I have to admit it was sort of funny, but not. Have you ever gotten lost in a store when you were little?

Room

I don't normally post about movies we watch, but we watched a really good one. It's called Room. If you have Amazon Prime it's free to watch.

My husband laughs because he generally picks out movies that he doesn't even like. He asked a few co-workers what movies they would recommend and Room came up.

I loved the movie! It's from the novel Room.

It is really similar to Jaycee Dugard, or Elisabeth Smart stories. More the Dugard story because this girl was locked up for 7 years, and had a child.

It has suspense, creativity, happiness, and sadness all wrapped up into one movie. There was only 1 actor I recognized, which maybe why I've never heard of it. It's also why I loved it. I like seeing new talent.

I loved how creative the boy is in Room. He reminded me of Isaak at the age of 5.

What's a movie that you love? I'm looking for movies that are not mainstream.

FAVI Kids Projector - Black (Refurb) Review

I use a projector daily at work. It's a high end one. We watch class movies, and I show PowerPoints, and Keynote presentations through them.

I always wanted a projector for home use. I think playing video games, and watching movies and shows through one sounds like a lot of fun. I even thought it would be a blast to have kids over on different nights to watch Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Ghost Busters, and Back to the Future. Anything that's a classic, and is a series.

I got FAVI Kids Projector - Black (Refurb) to review. It's fun having a projector at home. I'm kind of wishing that I never used a high end one. Now I know what I'm missing.

Pros:

  • You can watch movies, or play games from a computer, or TV. You can even hook up home movies from a recorder to watch.
  • It has both USB and HDMI hook up ports.
  • You can hook it up to your stereo system. It comes with cables to assist with that.
  • It comes in: Black, Teal, Pink, and White.
  • It has a remote that assists in the modes.
  • It comes with a manual.
Other Colors:

Teal

Pink

White

Cons:

  • The blower is noisy.
  • The sound from device to the projector is quiet.
  • While it comes in fun colors, I could only find the black one being sold.
  • I had to go buy a cable to get it to work from my computer, or camera to the projector.
  • The remote needed 2 AAA batteries. This is common, but I thought I'd bring it up because I have gotten products that had the batteries included.
  • It's a small projector, so the image quality is just ok.
Here's the projector with the lens cap. I like that it has a lens cap. It will help protect it when in storage.

The lens cap fit well, but comes off easily to.

These are the cords it comes with:

The remote that needs 2 AAA batteries. I did find it odd that the remote is white, when the projector I got is black and grey. The remote does have a lot of options on it.

The manual is pretty easy to understand.

This is what the projector looks like on.

Do you have a home projector?

Disclaimer: I received this projector for a discount in exchange for an honest review.

Who Would Play You in a Movie of Your Life?

A Life Examined asks a question a month.

This month the question is: Who would play you in a movie of your life?

This is a tough one. For one I'm not very good with actor's names. I don't read up on their personal lives too much either.

First off here I am:

I'll do my best. I was once told that I look a lot like Mindy (Pam Dawber) from the old show Mork and Mindy. It's hard for me to see it. She has a long skinny face, so do I. Her hair is brown, mine is brown brownish grey.

How interesting it would have been to work along side Robin Williams!

My husband thinks I have Liv Tyler lips. That's all I have that Liv Tyler has.

If I could pick someone based on looks, and their acting I'd pick someone that doesn't look like me at all. I have a girl crush on Mary-Louise Parker. I've liked her since she was in Fried Green Tomatoes. She can play a southern, classy, conservative girl to a bad drug dealer.

I know Mary-Louise Parker had some plastic surgery, but not too much. She looks great for being 51.

Who would play you in a movie?

Empire of the Sun

Empire of the Sun is on of my favorite movies. My husband rolls his eyes at me when I want to watch it. Admittedly it is long.

This last weekend I let Mica watch it with me. I was wondering if he would actually stick it out because of the length of the movie. He did. He always gets really excited about Steven Spielberg movies. The boy has read 2 documentaries on the guy. He knows more about him than I do. He also likes history.

I told Mica that the boy in the movie played one of the many Batman's. Christian Bale is a great actor. I couldn't believe how much weight he forced himself to loose in The Machinist!

We were watching it and Mica said, "Hey Mom I think that's Ben Stiller." I had to look it up to see if he was right. Sure enough he was. A young Ben Stiller. That kid amazes me sometimes! He knows so much about classic movies, music and for some odd reason presidents for his age!

I asked Mica if he liked the movie? He most certainly did. I think it helped that the kid in the movie (Jamie played by Christian Bale) was about his age.

Viewers have you seen Empire of the Sun? What's one of your favorite movies?

Friend Birthday Party

This weekend Mica got to choose a few friends to do something special for his birthday. It was a low key event. I even told them not to worry about gifts.

They went to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and ate cake and ice cream afterwards. I didn't get the boy's parent's permission to use his photo.

I don't know how this happened, but the boy brought a gift for Mica and for the girl. It was her birthday party the week before, and he missed it. It wasn't needed, but he brought them both gifts.

He brought Mica a small Lego set, and a $25 GC to Target. That's more than nice!

The girl's sister called that morning to ask if she could come? We figured that might happen. They invited both our boys to the girl's party the week before. I didn't really care.

So much of me wishes we'd go back to just involving the kid in your kid's grade. Whole families, and siblings are now a package deal. I didn't care in this case, but I want Mica to have special times with his friends - without Isaak included, and the same goes for Isaak. I'd think his friend's parents would feel the same way.

For the record the sister offered to pay for herself. We paid for her. It wasn't about the money. It's just about doing something special with his few chosen friends.

While Daddy took Mica and his friends to the movie, Isaak stayed home, and had a friend of his own over. They dressed up. His friend is much smaller than Isaak is, so Isaak's costume was swimming on his friend. Isaak's friend loves Hot Wheels and all of Isaak's Thomas stuff that I have packed away. He asks to play with that stuff every time.

Once the movie finished up, we had cake and ice cream. Simple, and fun.

The next day we went to Target to spend that $25 GC. Mica said, "I want another Lego set." I refused. He has so many Legos, and he'll get more for Christmas. That's what he asks for.

I convinced him, and Daddy talked with him about getting something more practical. He got a bike helmet. He needed a new one. The other was was too small.

Usually I'm all about kids picking out what they want. When they seem to have a lot already, I just want them to pick out something they could use more than want.

E.P. Phone Home

We've watched E.T. twice this week. Why? Because I've been sick, and I can choose to watch whatever I want to. - I'm getting that from Isaak. He likes getting sick because he can watch whatever movies he wants.

Source
Isaak usually wants nothing to do with E.T. "It's too scary Mom" he says. Even Mica was a little leery of the movie. I can understand; it starts out so dark, and ends on a sad/happy note. E.T. looks so real for his time to.

The boys keep talking about this movie. I've won them over.

Isaak keeps saying, "E.P. Phone Home."

Then Mica says, "Isaak it's E.T. not E.P.!"

It's rather comical.

Mica keeps humming the known song from the movie.

I was curious about some of the actors, and looked them up. I know many of them have been in other things. The oldest brother in the movie acted until he was in his 40s and now he's a mail carrier. The rest have been acting here and there their whole lives. The star Henry Thomas AKA Elliot was also in a Texas band called The Blue Heelers. I was trying to look up the band to use them for my music post I post every week, but I'm not finding anything.

So what about you, are you a fan of E.T.

Take a look at Henry Tomas' audition to get the job. It's impressive. He's about the same age as Mica, and I don't think Mica could make tears appear that easily.
