Random Tid Bits

  1. Daddy hates bow ties. He thinks they are lame, and pictures Tucker Carlson when it comes to bow ties. I think of artsy people like Johnny Depp, and other actors. I recently watched the Beatles tribute, and Sean Lennon had a bow tie on. He looked slick, and artsy.

  2. Do you like bow ties? Am I alone in liking them?

  3. We had our garbage disposal break a few times. Now we use a strainer bought at Ace Hardware. For a buck, this thing works so good! We've been using it for 2 or 3 years now. It collects so much stuff. I just pitch the food it collects into our compost pile. A high pressure hose cleans it out well!

  5. Mica doesn't know I know that he "loves" Melissa Gilbert; when she was his age on Little House on the Prairie. I left my knowledge of that quiet. He said to me one morning this week, "Mom I just can't stop dreaming about Melissa Gilbert on Little House on the Prairie." I said, "Oh really." Then giggled to myself.

Who was your first actor/singer crush? To be honest I don't even remember my first one. I liked Ralph Matcchio in Karate Kid. Now he's odd looking to me. I liked Kurt Cameron on Growing Pains. He's just strange to me now.

  6. I asked Isaak if he likes snakes? He said, "They creep me out Mom!" I've always liked them. They have such interesting patterns on them. It's so cool that they can move around without legs, wings, or fins. I never been a furry animal lover because I can't be. They close up my lungs. They are cute on screen. I guess I'm sort of the same way with snakes. I'm not sure I'd want to have one as a pet because of what they eat, and some are super poisonous. They are certainly pretty!

  7. I've never been able to whistle, yet I won a whistling contest once. We had to eat a ton of crackers at camp, and whoever whistled first won the contest. I let out a little 1/2 assed whistle, and won. I can't carry a tune what so ever with whistling. I can with singing though.

Isaak's Two Finger, Fake Whistle

Creativity

I have a guest post here that I wrote about Boosting Your Creativity. Please read it and comment if you have the time.

I'm going to post a few of Mica's drawing for my Wordless Wednesday this week. That boy is only 6 and can draw!

Isaak's into sounds this weekend. He still tries to 2 finger whistle. He's also been putting his hands over his ears and yelling. Mica and I asked him to, "Stop!" Isaak said, "It's not loud to me!" Then does it again. I felt like screaming myself by the time the day was over. Then when I typed this I felt like laughing. What he was doing is totally something I would have done when I was younger.

Isaak's just realized that strumming your finger along an air vent makes what he calls, "Muesic" meaning "Music." I remember doing that when I was younger. Aunt Angela and I used to quickly change in front of a vent that was putting out warm heat in the winter time. It was a race because we hated changing when it was cold outside.

I also liked to play with door stoppers. In particular the kind that has a tight spring (see below). We had one of those kinds in the bathroom. It made this funny sound when you tapped it. I'm sure if we had one of those Isaak would have found it amusing as well.

Whistle Part 2

Daddy finally figured out the source of Isaak's attempt to the two finger whistle. The Cat in the Hat Who Knows a Lot About That! is the culprit. Daddy said that Isaak is trying to do what the Cat in the Hat does to get someone's attention.

Image sources found here.

Isaak puts in two fingers in his mouth and make a high pitch, loud noise. It's more like a scream then a whistle. At least we know where he's learned this trait now.

Guess Who's Been Trying to Whistle?

Our 3 year old Isaak's the one! Only it's not just a regular whistle he's trying out, it's a fingers in the mouth and blow whistle.

What he does is a fingers in the mouth and scream un-whistle. Let me tell you, listening to it 10 times in the evening is annoying!

Do we ignore his new found un-tallent, do we tell him to knock it off {which is what we have been doing} or do we make him go outside on the porch to fake whistle? If we make him go outside, people in our neighborhood might think something is wrong at our house.

Fact: I have never been able to whistle a tune. I went to a camp when I was in elementary school. I was nominated as the person in our group to go eat a bunch saltine crackers and whistle. I was running against about 5 other kids. I knew I wouldn't win. Guess what? I did win! It wasn't a tune I whistled, but I was the first to make whistle sound.

I actually found a video that teaches a person how to whistle like this:
