WW: Room {Linky}

I've been fairly busy.

Our old loveseat that we had, for cough 17 or so years was ready to retire. We heard a snap, when one of us sat on it. It had stains that I washed out many, many times. The velcro was coming off, so the cushion wouldn't stay put. We gutted it! Nothing in our house is every easy. Most people would just throw it on the side of some dumpster, somewhere. Travis wanted the pieces. I only cared to get the furniture tacks.

Good-bye Loveseat:

Sure enough it was a piece of wood that snapped.

Pay attention to the green shelves. I repainted them!

Hello Chairs:

I really wanted another loveseat. We are a family that loves shows and movies. Laying down is well...awesome!

BUT we had a horrible time finding what we wanted. Travis wanted to be able to sit in whatever we bought. I'd find things online, but he couldn't sit in them. I finally saw our seats at The World Market. It was the Bohemian Style I was looking for, we both liked them, and they were 50% off. The sucky thing, they weren't a loveseat. I'm going to have to find a way of making poufs or footstools. We're already missing laying down.

We were going to place the chairs next to each other, but changed our minds. Here's the chair Travis designed, next to one of the other chairs. I repainted the green shelves.

I found a pillow that has sections just like Travis' chair.

Here's a better look at the shelves I painted:

Lots of stripes like the chairs have. Last coat of varnish!

Travis put in the loveseats's furniture tacks. It sounds easier than it was. That wood was hard! He had to pre drill holes, to get them in.

Then his sculpture went on top.

Here's the other side of the living room.

The leather couch has furniture tacks too! We got an off white pillow that has the same pattern as the red one. The other bohemian case is new too.

See the Cheez-It trunk in the back? I got that filled with products to review a long time ago. It's such a cool trunk. I love Cheez-Its, but I'm thinking about repurposing that. I want to have a board cut bigger than the trunk, add the red fabric from Travis' chair (he had extra), stuff it with batting from the loveseat, and screw the board on up through the bottom of the top. I'd have to add sliders, or wheels on the bottom.

Sunny approves! The kids prefer to lay on the couch.

Do you like ottoman's, or poufs better?

If you're like me, and have no idea what a pouf is, here they are:

Poufs look cozier, but some ottomans can store things. Whatever I end up with I'll probably make it. Poufs and ottomans are just as much as the chairs! The Cheez-It trunk gets repurposed, for Travis' chair.

WW: Art of the Seating {Linky}

In the summer I went to Art of the Seating: 200 Years of American Design. It was pretty inspiring considering that my husband was making a chair, for a different show.

It's odd going to a chair show, and not being able to sit in any of them.

My favorite:

What chair design was your favorite? Do you like modern, or classic better?

My husband's chair is out of its exhibition, and is now in our living room. It's both good and bad. It looks good, but every time one of the kids walks by it he's like, "Be careful!"

WW: Chair #design #linky

My husband submitted a chair design to be in an architecture firm.

His little model made it.

For a three or four months he worked his butt off on the real thing. I made a lot of meals, and helped Isaak a ton with homework.

He had his show a few weeks ago.

That tiny thing in front of the chair in the 4th picture is his model in the first picture.

Here he is! You can see more of my husband's work here.

Post ANY post you want comment love on! It doesn't have to be wordless or wordful. I like rules sometimes, but they are meant to be broken. Link up a post!

Random Tid Bits

  1. The chair Travis is making is more of an undertaking than he thought. He's never made furniture before. Consequently I've been playing single parent some. I'm not complaining. I don't mind making meals, or doing dishes. There are somethings he does better than I do though. Like helping Isaak with *cough math, and cutting Isaak's hair to name a few. We are all a little snappy at each other. I think when one of us is stressed, it rubs off on the rest of us.

  2. It doesn't help that his bosses keep going out of town; leaving Travis and their pregnant daughter in charge. He hates being in charge. Especially when coworkers bitch about other coworkers, leave early, and don't do the work to their full potential.

  3. I think it's odd when 2 people go to the same place, and don't ever carpool. This would be my boss and his wife.

  4. I was kind of excited to be a part of a focus group in the middle of the month. It's mid April. Thankfully it landed on a day I didn't teach. They also pay, and give you food, for being a part of it. The guy called me, I missed the call, and now I can't seem to get a hold of him. Guess that's, that.

  5. I had Isaak take the trash out to the curb. He did. Travis came in and asked, "Why is the trash can out on the curb when there's no trash in it?" Apparently we only had the kitchen trash that wasn't even all the way, full for all week. Not bad for 4 people. We do our best to recycle, reuse, and compost.

  6. We went to Mica's school for Literacy Night. They had pizza. There were booths with different activities. Once you filled up your card with stickers from the booths, you could go pick out a free book. We waited until the end to get the free book; they had already taken the table down. I'm like, "Sorry Mica." Isaak however won two books at the Book Walk.

Random Tid Bits

  1. Mica's going through yet another transitional time with growing up. He forgets about 4 snack bowls in his room (thankfully they were all empty). He has no interest in doing any extras. He's in Quiz Bowl - that's plenty in his mind. Gawd forbid he hang out with his cousins for a board game night and pizza, sign up for camps for the summer, or a special academy (Zoo or Health) that his school offers next year.

He gets embarrassed by me at his school now. I've always been his cuddle person, and I'm goofy. Maybe he thinks I'm going to cuddle up with him in the cafeteria? Possibly he thinks I'm going to say something that puts him on the spot. I don't know what's going on in his head. Growing pains are hard!

  2. We keep having storage units going up in Omaha. They have Biblical quotes that are demeaning, and they have the ugliest logo. Do you have this storage unit where you live? They are popping up all over.

  3. I knew it was supposed to snow on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, but didn't know it was going to come down so hard. It snowed 5". We got a call that Mica got yet another snow day. Parking lots are actually smaller because there's no room for snow.

  4. I'm a bit obsessed about True Crimes lately. I think I've watched or listened to every video on Chris Watts. I like Tori Hartman's channel. I just listen to it, while I'm working on other things. I think that Watts case has hit me hard because it makes me realize that Travis thinks I'm nuts when I start going on and on about certain cases.

  5. Travis' chair design got accepting to this:

  6. A mock up! Now he has to make the real thing!

Now he's ultra busy. He really doesn't want to hear about my interest in the Chris Watts case.

The Story of the Teal Chair

Isaak had in his room a preschool/Kindergarten type table, and 2 small chairs. He was out growing it. I thought we'd have to buy him a desk at Ikea. It needed to be small to fit in the space he has. Then it dawned on me that I had a unused desk downstairs that he could use.

Out went the small table and chairs. Thankfully my sister Terra took them in.

Up went my old desktop computer desk that used to be my sister's when she was a kid.

The chair in Mica's room belonged to the desk that is now in Isaak's room. I hot glued felt on the bottom of the chair, so it wouldn't further scratch our wood floors. Isaak now has the chair.

Mica needed a new chair. The trouble was, that his desk has a narrow chair opening. We went to ShopKo to look at an office chair. They only had 1 chair, it was too wide. We went to our biggest furniture store, Nebraska Furniture Mart. They had a ton of office chairs, but only 2 would fit the space. Both were black, $55 and $75, and 1 was out of stock. I thought about Office Depot/OfficeMax, but so many have closed I was unsure of where they are even at. I called Big Lots, which was right down the street to see if they had office chairs without handles. I was noticing the added handles are what made them too wide for his desk. They had a chair on sale for $34.

We drove there, and picked up a black chair! The store clerk stopped us and said, "Do you know that they come in other colors?" We're like, "Nope!" They came in grey (out of stock), red (more of a coral color), and teal. Mica's like, "Yes! I want the teal one!"

Mica grabbed the chair box, and insisted on caring it throughout the store. It was pretty heavy for him.

Teal goes much better in his room. He has a bright orange locker in his room, and a teal drawer on his locker bed. Complimentary colors work well together.

We got home, and Mica wanted to put his chair together. I said, "I don't know...your birthday is on Wednesday. I thought you could wait to put it together." Of course I was joking. He helped Travis put it together right away.

What's something you were excited to get when you were younger?

Muddy Paws Floor Protecting Chair Socks

We have hardwood floors throughout most our home, and laminate flooring in the kitchen and bathroom. One thing we struggle with is when the boys drag their chairs from one room to another. We've had felt pads on the bottom of their chairs. They are not very careful with them, and the felt wears off after time.

This is where Muddy Paws come in. They are a brand new product on the market. Muddy Paws are revolutionary protection for hardwood, bamboo, tile, or laminate flooring. They are a furniture sock with a cat paw touch.

The packaging is just as cute as the socks.

4 Muddy Paws come in a single box. When you order them you get 2 boxes sent your way. That equals 8 Muddy Paw floor-protecting chair socks, which covers 2 chairs, or 1 chair and a desk. If you have 4 chairs at a table, you'll need to order another 2 boxes.

Cost: $27.99, but on sale for $17.97. They are more expensive than felt bottoms for chairs, but they stay on, and last longer!

They also can be taken off, and put on a different chair, or table. That's pretty important to me to. My boys are growing up. Next year I'd like to move Isaak up to having a small desk in his room, and clear off Mica's desk to do homework on. They won't have little chairs any longer. Muddy Paws will move to bigger chairs.

They are really easy to put on, and take off. I had each boy put Muddy Paws on their own chair. I just helped by holding the chair upside down.

They are so cute! I do see that I need to move the paw off to the side, so they sit right. I love that there are no more scratches, sound, just smiles when they move their chairs around on the floor.

Muddy Paws are ultra-durable, double-layered fabric. They won't wear holes in them! YAY! They are made with a high-grade acrylic providing ultra-soft sliding cushioning. They are super stretchable, which makes them easy to get on and off.

Break Down of What Muddy Paws are Made of:

  • 65% Acrylic
  • 20% Polyester
  • 10% Elastane
  • 5% Spandex

They are designed in London, and made in China.

They fit snugly around most furniture leg shapes btw 0.75 and 1.50 inch diameter. I love that there's no glue, or sticky stuff needed for Muddy Paws.

There's a few things that Muddy Paws could add:
  • More sizes for thicker chair or table legs.
  • More color options. An orange tabby cat colors would be fun in our house. Some people may prefer chocolate brown, and tan. They are neutral enough as is to go with any decor though.
They are washable and reusable. Knowing my boys I will have to wash them at times. Sometimes drinks are spilled. Wood floors get dirt collected on them easily.

I love the look of cats, but can't have one due to my stupid allergies. If allergies didn't exist I'd have a cat in a heart beat. They are cute, cuddly, can take care of themselves for the most part, and do not bark. Travis loves cats. He grew up with house cats, and farm cats. Travis often sits on his computer, and watches cat videos. If I see him laughing I know that he's watching a cat video. Ha! You don't have to have a cat to love Muddy Paws. I love them.

These would make a great gift for cat lovers.

I could see Muddy Paws just being Chair Socks. I have to say that the paws are really cute though.

The most important thing to me is that my floor is protected now thanks to Muddy Paws.
