Get Off My Lawn!

I think I'm a pretty patient person. I can talk down a crying, panicking kid. I'm great with any kid young, old, or even adult coming to my house to Trick or Treat.

There somethings I will only put up with, for a little while.

Travis came home from Isaak's basketball practice last week saying, "I just can't stand the older kids getting in the way of Isaak's practice!" I asked if he said something? He replied with, "No it's not my job."

Who's job is it than? Coaches at the Y don't get paid. When I went to Isaak's basketball practice this week; I made it my job to say something. I said something 3 or 4 times actually.

I let the older kids shoot for about 5 minutes into my son's practice. Then I said, "Hey guys could you kindly not shoot hoops, or bounce the ball, while these guys have practice. It's hard for the coach to talk, while you do that. We're paying for the gym right now." They looked at me like, Really lady!?

They left. Then they came back again. Their body language was like they want to flip me off. I said something again much more stern.

Two of them proceeded to dribble the ball up, down, and around the curtain. Every time looking at me. I got up, and sat down on the floor, right by the curtain.

Then much older guys came in to use the gym. They actually started out pleasant by asking when the gym would be open. Ten minute later they grew tired of waiting, and didn't just play in the practice space, but dunked the ball several times. The younger kids saw this, and lost total respect to join them. I went over and said, "Can you guys do this later? My son, and his team are in practice? The coach can't even talk to the team." One of the older guys said, "We're not distracting!" As he was hanging off the net of the hoop. I said, "Ya you kind of are!" The coach piped up and said, "Ya you are. Play later."

Once another Mom sat down, for the next practice I asked if the older kids were a problem the week before. She said, "Yes! Our coach had to cuss them out by saying, 'Get the hell out of here!'"

As I left the Y, I told the staff up front about the punk kids.

Isaak said, "Mom my friend James said, 'Your Mom must really not like those kids!', but he was happy you said something."

I said, "Isaak it's not that I don't like them. I don't know them. I just want you and your team to have a good practice you can hear. I'm paying for you to learn. Next time I should just sit right under the net."

These are things that came to my mind:

I used to be so shy, but with being a teacher I got over that! I don't believe respect for older people is always needed, but instead respect the situation. An asshole adult may not deserve respect. Maybe I was that asshole adult that day. I started with asking nice. It was my son's team that was paying for the space.

It isn't just the punks showing up on the court, when my son's team was in basketball practice...

It's also my own students. I have for the most part the best student ever. I have three that horse around in lab. Ok, so it's their time to work. If they don't want to do that, their loss. The same three all get on their cellphones when I'm in lecture. I stopped my lecture to say something. I just haven't been in the mood to put up with disrespect.

What's something you can't tolerate? I believe we all have breaking points.

Soccer Games

Isaak played soccer in the spring, and now in the fall. He really is enjoying soccer. His coach really lets him work the field.

They had a double game last week. They won their first game, played hard on the second, but didn't win.

Crazy thing:

Isaak has a whole drawer full of workout clothes. What does he wear?
The same thing every time.

The best thing...kids are nice on his team!

The basketball team he was on was just not his fit. It has been that way, for awhile. He loves the sport, but not the team he was on. There was a kid that wouldn't give the other team high fives when they lost, he'd slam the floor when he the other team was making free throws, he'd push up against players, and more. Things like that just make Isaak pissed, and nothing was being done about it.

We found out when Isaak played at school, he was one of the top players. As opposed to his select team he wasn't even passed the ball. He doesn't need that negativity in his life.

He's not the BEST player at either soccer or basketball, but he's a good asset to both sports.

We signed him up, for basketball at the Y next to keep his skills in check.

At school he has intramural sports. Right now it's volleyball. Isaak and his carpool didn't really have the interest. When basketball starts they plan to play.

Travis makes Mica go to all Isaak's games. I don't even know why. Mica sits there and reads or listens to the music. He never knows the score. Travis says he has to go to be supportive. He's not supportive at all. Just like Isaak's not supportive to Mica's Quiz Bowl. He has no interest in that either.

Last week I was tickling Mica, and Mica was poking me in the arm. Being on Aspirin, all those pokes turn into bruises.

Travis said, "Let's trade spots. I'm getting sick of you two." We traded.

Then the two boys battled with empty Gatorade bottles. Mica's chair was knocked to the ground. Travis wonders why our "cheap" chairs break. Humm...I wonder.

When you were a kid, did you go to your bother or sister's sporting events, concerts and so on for support?

Random Tid Bits

  1. Last week the students had off Good Friday, and this week they had off Monday. The Education Director was here, and has a centrally located office. One student did come in because she's a paid worker. She takes out the trash, and fills toilet paper and paper towels. The student came in from outside said asked the Education Director, "What am I supposed to do? The back doors are locked. I got locked out, so I had to walk around." He sat there awkwardly for what seemed like 2 or 3 minutes. Finally I piped up from a back cubical and said, "Is there something I can do? You have a few options: Prop the door open, while you do the trash, or I can unlock it. Just let me know which thing you want me to do? She decided to prop the door open. I too have faced some awkward moment with the Education Director. He's nice, just quiet.

  2. My brother in law said over the holiday to my uncle, "I just don't like basketball." My uncle asked, "Why?" My brother in law said, "It's the squeaky shoes." I never really thought about that bothering anyone.

  3. Isaak got more jewelry from my Aunt that was my Grandma's. She handed him a whole box of costume jewelry. Oh joy more stuff we get to hold onto. He was pretty upset when he collected a ton of her rings, and was told to give most of them back. That kid cracks me up! He's a total boy with playing. He typically has some injury on his legs. He's proud of his battle wounds. He likes sports, Chess Club, gardening, and more. Then he'll turn around and dig crafts, and my Grandma's old jewelry. I love it! He amuses me.

Isaak picked out this hair clip to put in my hair:

It slid right on out. My hair is so slippery. It has zero texture.

Travis picked it up, and said, "Hey there's my nipple ring. He put it in his chest hair. It gave us all a laugh. I think it held better there than in my hair.
  4.  I've had Bennie and the Jets in my head for a week. I appreciate Elton John, but never really loved his music.

Every morning this week I've gotten up singing, "Travis! Travis! Insert high pitch! T.T.T. Travis and the jets!" Later towards dinner I sing, "Mica! Mica! Insert high pitch! Ma.Ma.Ma. Mica likes his pets!" Then I start dancing with him. If he's in a good mood he loves it. I mean who wouldn't? Ha! We don't even have any pets! I really haven't sang it to Isaak.
  5. I ran across these weird food at the grocery store. It was odd that the product was with the ice cream. I like macaroni, but this just grosses me out. Carbs on top of carbs with fake plastic cheese in the middle. In was also odd it was with the ice cream. Have you ever seen this product before?

Basketball

With the elite team Isaak's on, he struggles to be at the top. The team lost all the games last season, and are winning all their games this season. Isaak gets nervous whenever they play.

On his school team he made 8 points one game, got a free throw point another game, and shot a side shot at yesterday's game. He's passed the ball more, and is more aggressive with a game face on.

I don't know if he needs to change teams altogether with his elite team? It's like watching a different kid play when he's playing with his classmates.

Random Tid bits

  1. Travis and I haven't fought in a very long time. It's good, but I think it's healthy to fight every once in awhile. Last weekend was that time. No worries...we made up. It actually was in regards to Mica. If you have kids, have you ever fought about them with your spouse, ex, boyfriend or girlfriend?

One morning Mica was typing a one page paper, for a homework assignment on my work laptop. Good thing: He can log on to Office365 anywhere with his school account. I was making breakfast.

Mica said, "Mom I think I know a way to make this paper longer faster. I'll just bump up the font size 2 more points."

I said, "No! I don't want you doing that. Just take your time to do a good job. That seems like something one of my students would do; just to get the paper to go from one page to two."

    Mica said, "Mom it's fine."

I said, "Honey please don't do that. If anything...don't do that for me. What's the standard size?"

    Mica said, "She didn't specify."

I said, "What size are you taught is the standard?"

    Mica said, "11 pt."

I said, "Use that then. It used to be 12 pt when I was a kid. I teach my design students that body copy in a magazine is 9 or 10 points. If 11 pt size is what you're taught, she didn't say otherwise, you should use that size. You can always email her to ask her as well."

Mica said, "Mom I'd be doing her a favor. She is older, has glasses, and can't read all these paper well."

I said, "It sounds to me like you're old people shaming. Move the font size back!"

    Later that day:

    Mica said, "I'm done."

I said, "Did you move the font size back to 11 pt like I said?"

Mica said, "Oh I forgot. Now I can't because I sent it already."

I lost it! I don't feel like I yell that much, but I was full on yelling at that point! Then Travis came in, and started yelling too.

Travis said, "I think you need to stop, cool down, and Mica will learn from his mistakes. Think about how you're handling this!"

I did handle it good in the morning. When he didn't listen, is when I lost it. It's like all respect went out the window for me and Mica's teacher. It seems like I don't get backed up all the time, so I was upset the rest of the day. What a way to spend a day off! The whole day Mica didn't see what the big deal was. The next day we talked it out. It's all ok now. I do think fighting has to happen in any relationship at times. Although I think Mica is still in the clouds about the whole incident.

  2. Travis texted to me that the leaf Isaak and I crafted for his work won a $20 GC to Red Lobster.

    He texted, "Date night!"

I texted back, "I don't know Isaak helped me create it. Maybe it should be a Mother Son night."

He texted a grumpy emoji face back.

Should Isaak and I use the gift card, should Travis and I go out on a date with it, should Isaak, Travis and I go out, or should we just use it for our whole family? Part of me was messing with him, but another part of me was thinking, Isaak deserves some of that.

  3. Travis and I have been battling out what I should or shouldn't give Isaak's teacher for the holidays. I always give something! But it's hard because she's not our fav not a good teacher. I said, "What if we gave her something impersonal like school supplies? She could still use them. It's for the kids too." He was ok with that. Then my mom said, "Alissa you have to give her something fun!" I can't win!

  4. I have a student that cracks me up almost every day I have him.

He asked me why he doesn't have a girlfriend, and said he understands girls so well because he has 4 sisters. All while he was talking to me he was adjusting his man parts. Certainly not anything, any girl want to see!

He told me he was going far for Thanksgiving to see his sister's new kid. I said, "Oh what's his name?" He said, "I don't know." I said, "You better find out!" When he got back he still didn't remember his nephew's name. He had to call his mom to ask. When he found out it was Rowen he was like, "What kind of name is that?" I said, "Someone could say the same of your name. Don't judge. Just love him, and remember his name."

  5. Isaak has kind of hit a downward spiral with basketball. He gets anxious ever since his team switched from the Y to a bigger better league. I was beginning to think he was alone in feeling this, but as it turns out he's not. You can read about sports anxiety here. Now we just need to try and learn how to combat it. He was a great basketball player before!

WW: Basketball {Linky}

Isaak moved up from the YMCA to Omaha Sports Academy. It's much more challenging. So far his team has tanked twice. It's all about learning to improve. He looks so cool in his new gear! They are the Saber Tooth Tigers.

He has this thing where he has a lot of spunk during practices, but then when the games come he's not as aggressive. He's working on that.

Did you play sports when you were younger?

Random Tid Bits

  1. Mica looking at the ad below, "Why do they call it Double Quarter Pound King, when they could just call it Half Pound King?" Us, "Good question."

  2. We also discussed during one breakfast this week what an Oxymoron is. Mica said, "It's like freezer burn. Two opposites in one word, or set of words." The Great Depression is another example. Isaak said, "I bet butt cheeks is an example of an Oxymoron." Possibly! Ha! Can you think of an Oxymoron?

  3. Another season of basketball was wrapped up a few weeks ago. Isaak loves it! He's getting more aggressive with getting the ball. That's a good thing in sports. A few of his team members had issues. The coach's son was getting in trouble at school for talking. The coach kept him out for all the games! Then one twin had violent problems. The other twin was great! He took off his shoes, and threw them across the court, yelled at the ref, slammed the door a few times, would slam the floor when the other team had a free throw and more. He too was out the rest of the season. Isaak couldn't believe how the one twin acted.

  4. We may be ending our relationship with the Leadership Camp the boys go to on Saturday nights. We love having some time away from the boys. I loved what the organization stood for: Building Leaders.

    • They are getting less consistent with their discipline tactics. Our boys don't need to be disciplined, but they see the lack of consistency with other kids.

    • Their turn over rate for workers has been really high lately! Mica got snapped at for touching insulation. Well he didn't know it was full of tiny particles of glass. Cover up the insulation with a blanket! There's tiny kids that go there. Insulation looks like pink cotton candy.

    • Our boys are in the minority. The organization is all about equality, yet my boys are always picked last for every game, or event. There is a thing called reverse discrimination. I wanted my boys to get a taste of it, but it not be their every Saturday night!

    • When we pick up the boys they have to ask our names every single time. It's not that big of a group.

    • I feel like our boys are leaders already in many ways.

We'll see if they can talk us into staying, but as of right now I think we're leaving when it hits the next tier.

  5. Travis started teaching at a Catholic elementary school this week. They needed a sculptor resident teacher a few days a week. I think he now gets how much work there is in being a teacher. He gets paid well. That doesn't account for all the prep work. It really doesn't account for all the help his wife and boys helped him with either! It will be a great experience, something to put on his resume for sure. Good luck to him! It's his first day, and I'm writing this Monday! We cut out many cardboard pieces for Kindergartener's to make a puzzle sculpture (560 to be exact), strips of colored paper for them to add to their sculpture. He cut out lots of wood bases for older kids to make a wire sculpture, with pantyhose on top, and Gesso on top of that. Lots of colored pieces cut for some older kids to make a 3D shape. Teaching is a lot of work. Especially when you first come up with a project! The rest should be easier! They have days to complete their projects.

Thick Performance Athletic Socks Review

Isaak was excited to be a part of a 3 day basketball camp last week! He went to the University of Nebraska for it. My college student nine year old loves basketball!

He had fun except for the last day. Isaak's only been playing for a year, so he got called, "A ball hog" by a few teammates. I told him that he just has to practice looking up, and being aware of his surroundings. I also mentioned, that it was ok to be upset, it's not fun being called something negative. I make it clear that If he felt like crying no one in the car was going to judge him.

We had a much easier time taking him and dropping him off then we originally thought. It ended up that I only needed to be at the Allergy Asthma Clinic for 2 days instead of 3. On that 2nd day I got let out early enough to go get Isaak from camp. Just like Isaak had a crappy time on the 3rd day I did too. I got a ticket for parking in a lot, which was ok to park in. I had to hunt the parking building down to get that waved. I didn't realize the campus was split with a park. Finding the building I needed to go to took me 35 minutes. Mica kept saying, "Calm down Mom!" Ha!

Isaak looked sharp with his new shirt and socks!

Not only was he excited about playing basketball for 3 days straight, he was also happy to try out Thick Performance Athletic Socks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073WVCR3S

The set comes with black and red socks. It's perfect really because the shorts Isaak loves to wear for basketball are red, and he generally wears a charcoal grey or black for the top.

Each pair came in a separate plastic bag that has a ziplock feature:

I have to be honest I just threw the bags away. My boys each have a sock drawer.

Likes:
  • They are comfortable. In fact the first time Isaak put them on he felt like he wasn't wearing socks on the foot part.
  • Isaak loves that they can be worn for different sports. They have listed that they can be worn for Basketball, Football, Soccer, and Volleyball. Isaak's into Soccer and Basketball.
  • The color and style of the socks we like.
  • Isaak thinks it's cool they have an L for left and R for right. I've never had socks that tell you which sock goes of what foot, but I have seen them. If he likes it, great. I think I'd just like to put my socks on without thinking at all.
Dislikes:
  • The socks seemed to shrink a little bit when washed. The ankles fits too tight.
  • The black pair of socks had some loose strings inside them. They annoyed Isaak.

Cost:

They are $15.99 on sale for $13.99 with Prime Shipping on Amazon. That's a super good deal for athletic socks!

Do you have a favorite brand of socks?

Disclaimer: I got these 2 pair of socks for a discount to write this review. The company in no way influenced my decision when reviewing this product.

WW: Sports {Linky}

Isaak has been in basketball this whole year, and loves it! He usually takes the ball down the court.

Mica asked to play two sports: Soccer at the Y and Volleyball at school. He's never asked to play a ball sport. He was in t-ball when he was in preschool, and martial arts when he was in Kindergarten to about the beginning of 4th grade. Kind of late in the game, since he's in 5th grade. We're willing to let him try the sports.

Since I've never been a soccer mom, and Travis has never been a soccer dad we had no idea what to expect. We got him soccer shorts, then showed up, and all the boys had on basketball type shorts.

They both lost their games that week. Mica never did get to a practice due to rain and a communication mishap between the Y and the coach. Mica in particular was beat! He's a classic bookworm.

I got him this outfit for Easter, so I gave it to him early. The shorts are a bit longer. Then I returned the $25 soccer shorts.

We also wen to the boy's Leadership Camp, and played Dodgeball. It's pretty fun! We play parents against kids. There's only a handful of parents, but loads of kids! I always throw the ball too high, and someone catches it. I only got photos of Mica because Isaak was across the gym.

Were you into sports? Are your kids, or grandkids into sports?

Random Tid Bits

  1. Isaak said to me, "Mom I found out something that Benjamin knows the same as me!" Benjamin his friend from Argentina. I asked, "What's that Isaak?" He said, "He knows Indiana Jones. I started humming it, and he hummed it right along with me." Isaak was pretty excited about that.

  2. Mica went from not wanting to try anything, to wanting to try just about everything that comes his way. Before Spring Break, "Mom can I try volleyball? Aiden says it's just for girls, but it says nothing on here about it being just for girls." I read the memo and said, "Sure." Well I thought it was just at school; teaching them the sport. Just the other day I got a letter saying that the teacher will drop them off at other schools, and we have to pick them up. This kid is also in Chess Club, another round for Read to Succeed, band and he wanted to play his first ball sport - soccer at the Y. I told Travis to show up at his first practice, and if the games got in the way of other things just to bow out.

Travis went, had fun watching, and never said anything. Can you tell I'm not that Mom that likes to stay busy? I like my own life too. Up until this point sports didn't dominate our lives. I was completely happy with that. I guess I should be happy they are not involved in baseball. That's a high maintenance sport, schedule wise. Ha! I do like that Mica's trying things. Isaak's completely happy playing basketball. He loves the sport.

  3. Mica found out what middle school he's going too. It was his top pick. Many of his friends aren't going there. There's many middle schools for the district. I just said, "Just be glad you didn't get your home school.", which his home school sucks! I said, "Mica you're likable! You'll make friends. If you hate it, we'll send you somewhere else the next year."

I'm doing what many parents have already done, and Mica's getting a cell phone for his 12th birthday. He's not only getting it to take to middle school (bussing), but 12 year olds can start to babysit. We no longer have a home phone. He'll need it.

  4. My sister and I got our sons in the camp that fills up within minutes. Yes you read that right! It's only $95 per camper. That includes bussing, and it's all week, all day. They wear them out! This is what Isaak looked like at the end of his camp a few years back:

  5. He wasn't sad, or pissed. He was just worn, out and tired. I thought by the looks of it that he had a rough time. NOPE! He got the award for being the most enthusiastic. HA!

  6. The boys will go to the outdoor camp, a math/science camp, an acting camp, a leadership Sat. night camp, and in spring sports. We don't have daycare per say. Instead we try and fill their summer time up with camps. What kind of camp(s) did you go to when you were younger?

Random Tid Bits

  1. What a week! I'm writing this ahead of time. It's Wednesday. It snowed last night. I walked into the classroom, and not one of my student's was in. I suppose I don't blame them. It was pretty slick out, and staying in bed sounds really good right about now!

I have one student that has been gone 4 days out of 5. That's not cool! There are a few others that have been gone 3. When they get this far behind it's hard to catch them up!

  2. I have a blogger friend that passed away this week. I would message her to chat on Facebook at times. So long Jacqueline Mitchell. You were a good friend. She had Parkinson's Disease. Somehow towards the end of her life her trimmers started to stop. She had a weak heart, and passed away from that. I never met her, but I feel like I did. She was one that would comment on almost every picture I posted. She'd comment often, but the trimmers made it hard for her to type.

That's the second blogger friend that's passed away. Judy passed away quite some time ago. She was a twinless twin. Her twin passed away years before she did. It makes me sad.

  3. My nephew Emerson has been back in the hospital this week. We were just thinking he was doing great, and then another infection happened. A surgeon had this great idea to dig into him to put this tube to help clean out his gut. Well it keeps getting infected (twice now, since his original surgery). The surgeon didn't believe my sister when she called to have the office treat him. She was bitchy at the doctor the first time, this time she was livid and turned the office in for neglect. I don't blame her at all. They wanted to do yet another surgery, but she and another doctor over road their decision. He's been on IV antibiotics, and they are letting the fluid drain. She made them do a culture of the fluid. They found out he also has a Strep infection in it. He got that from his oldest brother. I've been worried about him. He gets out of the hospital tomorrow (Thursday). I hope he stays infection free!

  4. I oftentimes forget that I have pens or pencils in my ears. Do you ever put pens or pencils behind your ears?

  5. Isaak usually has better handwriting. But I found this quickly written note in his coat pocket at his basketball game. It's all about how his team needs to be more serious at practice. If they clown around Isaak was going to call them clowns

Coach Equipment Mesh Carry Bag with Whistle, Stopwatch, Cones Review

Isaak loves basketball! I'm so glad we signed him up for it. It seems like it's his sport.

Travis and a Grandpa to one of the kids on the team practice a lot at school. That way they can up the kid's skills. Isaak certainly has gotten better over two seasons!

One thing that helps is the Coach Equipment Mesh Carry Bag with Whistle, Stopwatch, Cones I got to review.

It Comes With Everything Seen Above:
  • A net bag that everything fits in
  • 2 whistles
  • A stop watch
  • 6 cones
Here's the net bag. The bag could be used for other things if you decide not to use it for this set. It has a draw string to close it up. The bag is 19"x22".

The cones have been used for dribble drills. They also could be used for obstacle courses. They are perfect for driveways, gyms, or outside courts. Each cone is 7" tall.

There where 2 whistles in the set. Isaak hijacked one of them already. Trust me when I say this - they are loud.

The stop watch works, but we've found it to be annoying. It doesn't have an off switch that we can find. We kept hearing a funny beep in our living room, and could not figure out what it was. We figured out it was coming from the stop watch. We finally had to take the battery out.

Last week Isaak won his first game! Last season the team barely had enough players to switch in and out. They got so tired mid game. This season seems to be going much better. We took Isaak out to get frozen yogurt to celebrate.

Cost:

$34.50 and on sale for $16.50 with Prime.

Have you ever gotten into a sport, or had a kid that was into sports?

Disclaimer: I received Coach Equipment to review. I wrote this post, and was not influenced at all with an opinion. I only review things that I find interesting, or that would benefit my readers or family.

Basketball Clothes

Isaak was all ready for his first basket ball practice of the season when I got home from work. I love how excited he gets for basketball.

He was dressed like he typically is, Y top, red shorts, crew socks, and basketball shoes.

Old photo from last season.
I said, "Isaak why don't you put those red basketball socks on that I gave to you before Christmas?"

He said, "What basketball socks? Oh the ones like my friend wears that are long. Now I remember."

Off he was to change socks and shoes.

Then I thought, "It's pretty cold. I know you just got dressed kind of twice, but put on some gym pants instead of shorts."

He goes to put dress pants over his shorts. It was so silly looking! They were brown stripped dress pants. He looked like he had a big cloth diaper under them with the poof of his shorts underneath.

I laughed and said, "No!" Travis said, "Really Isaak?! I think you know how silly you look. Go change into gym pants!"

He changed AGAIN, but wasn't happy about it! :( Isaak carries most of his anger in his eyes. I tell him that he's going to have wrinkles in his eyes just like me when he gets older.

He said said all grumpy like, "Mom sit up straight, watch your posture." I do have horrible posture.

I said, "Isaak fix your eyebrows, watch their posture." We both chuckled.

Isaak's First Basketball Game

Isaak's in basketball. He never really played games before, unless you count Horse. He's a pretty fair little player. Not the best, but not the worst either. The best part about him playing is that he really enjoys it!

He took basketball last year, but it was not a session about playing games. They only learned how to dribble, do layups, pass, and run fast.

He was super excited about getting new basketball shoes. Last year we bought him blue Nike's that he loved, but he quickly complained about his feet hurting. We went with adidas' this year. It's too bad because the Nike's still fit. I didn't want his feet hurting when he played.

On the first day of practice his coach had the boys play against each other. Isaak was so happy!

Their first game came and went on Saturday. They lost, but I was proud as to how hard they tried. The team they played was good! Not only did they have players that seemed to know what they were doing, but they also had more players to bench a few kids to give them rest. Most of the boys on Isaak's team have never played before. They only had one practice, one hour long prior to playing. They don't have enough kids to give each kid a break, so they played hard. They hustled up and down the court.

Look at Isaak trying to be ready when the other team got done with free throws.

One boy that Isaak does go to school with carries their team a lot. He's got a lot of energy, and a Dad that knows the game well.

Isaak's already learned a lot. I'm hoping he just gets better and better.

Did you get into sports when you were younger?

Last Call for Basketball

Isaak just finished his last basketball ball practice last weekend. He really loves the game, so I think we'll sign him up for the next class up.

Here he is practicing a lay up.

Travis got 4 tickets to see a college level basketball game at Creighton. I said, "Instead of us all going, why don't you ask if Elijah and Tyson can go with you and Isaak?" Elijah is my nephew that's Isaak's age. He loves basketball! I knew Tyson my Brother-in-law would like to go to.

They went, and had a lot of fun! Creighton lost, but it was still fun for them.

Isaak is ready to play real games he tells me. The class he was in was to learn what basketball is all about.

Are your kids into any sports?

WW: Basketball Novice {Linky}

Isaak just started playing basketball at the Y. He couldn't understand why he just couldn't go into playing full fledged basketball. I'm a firm believer that you need to know the basics before jumping in to do anything - like dribbling with his head up. He only wants to use his right hand to dribble. All these things he needs to work on are normal. Practice makes perfect. He's having fun with it.

Don't take a picture Mom!

Hustle!

He did make some baskets.

Head up son!

I've never been a sports person, but if I had to choose one to play it would be soccer. What about you?
